MEININGER Hotel Zurich Greencity in Zurich

Came back from staying in this hotel. The beds seem infected with bed bugs since I got random small bites on my body. There was no air conditioning and the place was quite far from tourist areas. Their services ******. They had a few ****** and non professional workers who were rude like the kitchen blondie and a white boi baldie who worked at the bar. Hope your work is paying you enough for you to live such a miserable life.

The website for this hotel says that the rooms have a "fan coil unit" for cooling. When we arrived we were extremely disappointed that the lobby and our room were both humid and blisteringly hot. There is a sign in the room that says that if you would like the temperature adjusted in your room you can request that at the front desk. We spoke with someone at the front desk on three separate occasions and got three different stories as to why our room was not cooled. The bottom line is that our room was never cooled. It was so hot we had to (at one employee's recommendation) open our window and prop a fan there. We slept terribly due to the heat, humidity, and noise from the open window. This is not the experience that was advertised, and not what we paid for. Also, the kitchen is perpetually filthy. I understand that, really, the guests who use the kitchen should be cleaning up after themselves, but no one at the hotel enforces that, and no one at the hotel cleaned it up while we were there. When we went down in the evening, and then back down the next morning, the exact same dirty dishes and food splashes were still there, untouched. If you want to use the kitchen you will have to wash someone else's dishes first. The hallway of the floor we stayed on smelled awful, like some kind of deeply artificial, chemical cleanser smell. I can't even imagine what that smell must be covering. Really, it was just overall a hot, sweaty, dirty, smelly experience, and the employees were not particularly interested in correcting that.

We (a family of 5) stayed at Meininger Hotel Zurich Greencity for 4 nights from June 16th to June 20th in two rooms. At check-in, the receptionist confirmed that our booking was 100% prepaid — including breakfast for all 5 members and the city tax. However, from the very next day, we started receiving daily notices on our room door, asking us to visit the reception for some "clarification." Each time, they claimed there was an outstanding balance — sometimes CHF 19, other times CHF 28 or even CHF 75. Every day, a different staff member gave us a different reason, despite us showing the confirmation of full payment. They would ask us to email their customer care, and when we did, there was still no resolution. In the end, we were forced to pay CHF 28 for an unclear and unjustified charge — something even the reception could not explain properly. We were simply told, “There might be some issue from customer care,” which felt very unprofessional and frustrating. Additionally, the hotel has a policy that you must request room cleaning in advance at the reception. We followed this, yet our room wasn’t cleaned on one of the days. When we raised the issue, the response was, “We can’t do anything now, sorry.” Recommendation: Book this hotel at your own risk. Keep printed confirmations and booking details with you, and prepare for confusion and poor coordination between the hotel and their customer care.
