MJ Boutique Hotel Khao Lak in Khao Lak

Stayed at MJ Boutique Hotel last minute after extending my trip, and overall it was a mixed but mostly positive experience. The room was excellent—clean, modern, and recently renovated, with a lovely sea view balcony. The welcome was great (cold orange juice on arrival), and the owner was very helpful, even arranging taxis and kindly offering me a late check-out until 4pm free of charge, which was really appreciated. Breakfast was freshly cooked and good quality, but only served 8–10am. If you have early trips (like diving), you’ll likely miss it—I did twice with 7:30 pickups. Most other hotels I stayed at in Thailand started breakfast earlier. The main downside was the motorbike hire. The bike I rented had dangerously low tyre pressures (8 PSI front / 17 rear instead of ~29/33), which made it unsafe until I sorted it myself. This really needs better maintenance, especially for less experienced riders. Limited helmet choice was also disappointing. WiFi was another weak point—very unreliable, which made the smart TV frustrating to use. Overall, a lovely hotel with great rooms and thoughtful service, but let down by bike safety issues and patchy WiFi. With a few improvements, it could be excellent.

Amazing location, 30 second walk to the beach! Scooter rental right next door. No front desk staff, but available through WhatsApp. Good breakfast in the morning.

The hotel is wonderful.
We checked into a room with a balcony, as requested. It had everything we needed, including a comfortable shower.
There's a 7-11 nearby, as well as cafes and restaurants.

We came as a family with twins boys ages 17 and 22 for 3 nights as part of our holiday in Thailand. This is our 5 time in Thailand with the children and this is the best perfect place we ever been !!! Great stuff ! We took 2 rooms with lagoon access and it is highly recommended!! Breakfast was excellent and we used to eat in the small dinning room which was less crouded. The beach is wonderful and the children loved the kayak, sup and surf board and used it almost every day. Don’t miss yoga lessons with Benz !! This is excellent way to start the day . Lots of nice activities. At night Outside the hotel there’s nothing - only few restaurant and bars ( most of them were empty because of the season). We really looking forward to to come again

Everything was very nice! Nice breakfast, the place is close to a beach with few tourists, rooms are clean and well equipped and the hotel staff is so nice and helpful with any question about the area. The price is really well adjusted and Khao lak was a surprise, nice headquarter if you want to visit similan or surin, they will get cheaper prices for you for taxis and tours, so happy to choose this place!

100% recommended! everything in the room was brand new, and the staff was happy to help with everything we asked for, finding taxis and tours cheaper than the regular prices for tourists. Rayla took care of us all the time, and the place is so quiet and nice, 20 meters next to the beach and close to restaurants, shops, motorbike rentals, massages etc. she even made us a gift when we left! we were planning to stay 3 days, extended it to 5 as we were so happy to find this place

The room was arranged on the first floor. It had a musty smell and was very humid. I didn't sleep well all night. My breath smelled of musty.
The location is very convenient, very close to the beach. But to get to the main street, you need to go around the beach, which is not particularly convenient;

First of all - thanks to Raila and all the team! Raila helped so much with taxi from and to the airport, trip to Similan islands (our boat was one of the first at the main viewpoint so we did not have to elbow with others), recommended to visit a market in Khao Lak. The team was always ready to help with any request. The hotel is small and cozy, 50 steps (literally) from the beach. The second floor rooms with a seaview and the sound of the waves. The room was clean, with all necessary features and even more - there were beach mats, beach towels, bottle of water (every day), little hairdryer, umbrellas, small shampoo and shower gel. The bed was comfortable. Tasty was the breakfast, included a choice of eggs main part, yogurt with banana, fruits, tea/coffee, little juice and water. The beach is rather wide, not overcrowded and shows magnificent sunsets. The only disappointing thing is that the beach area is not as clean as it could be. There are a massage point and fresh fruit drinks near on the right (massage 350-500 bat, coconut 50 bat, fruit shakes 70-80 bat). The rest part of the beach (to the left) also provides these activities, there is also a outdoor surf club with an artificial waves. There is a beach restaurant just next to the hotel with all the most popular dishes. In 5 minutes walk there is a market street with souvenir shops, restaurants, exchange points and supermarkets. It seemed too stressing for me to go there by the high-traffic road, there is also a way through the beach (right behind the surf club) though. My strong recommendations for this hotel! Truly hidden gem)

Listed as a two star property on ***********, but room facilities reflected 3 star quality. Beach towels, beach matts, beach bag provided, plus good quality toiletries. Breakfast included. Very helpful staff. Great location and we found it quiet and had no trouble sleeping. Quiet beach location, excellent for visiting local beach bars and restaurants. Far exceeded our expectations, to the extent that we will revisit early 2024, despite the 90 minute drive, *********** describe this as 250 mtrs from the resort centre. This implies the centre of Khao Lak, which is incorrect. It is a 10 minute drive to the centre of Khao Lak. The resort centre referred to is actually a 10 minute walk away and contains a supermarket and a few bars and restaurants serving local hotels. Having stayed in Khao Lak before, I would thoroughly recommend this nearby resort, unless you want to be in the centre of the action, in which case then taxi/drive or stay in Khao Lak town.
