Silver Sands Resort - Koh Tao in Koh Tao Island

I was unfortunately very disappointed with my stay. The hygiene in the hostel leaves a lot to be desired – the place was not properly cleaned, and overall everything felt quite unkempt. In addition, the cleaning staff left the doors open after cleaning and did not lock them again, which is a serious security concern.

Another major issue was that the windows were not sealed properly. Because of the rain, my travel backpack got wet, and some of my belongings were damaged as a result.

On top of that, the staff spoke very little English, which made communication difficult and made it hard to resolve any issues.

For travelers who value cleanliness, safety, proper communication and a dry place to sleep, I cannot recommend this hostel at the moment. I sincerely hope improvements will be made soon.

The rooms are basic however, that's reflected in the price so not much to complain about on that front. The issue is the noise from all the local bars and clubs.. it's not loud... It's so loud the air con unit in my room was vibrating.. it generally starts around 10:30 and stops from 12:30am to 2am.... If your young and out all night this is not a bad choice, otherwise best to find something away from this area.

The infrastructure is never maintained. The photos are 20 years old. Opposite our window, the workers are building a building that inevitably makes noise. At night, the tied dog barks every time someone passes by because the residence is open to everyone, as well as scooters. I will not return.

Bug Buffet & Beats Till 2AM

Had a bungalow to myself—basic is the best way to describe it. The room was tidy enough, but the dim lighting gave it a bit of a cave vibe. Cozy? Not really. More like “hope you don’t need to find anything after dark.”

Soundproofing? Nonexistent. The walls might as well have been made of tissue paper. You’ll hear everything—your neighbors’ conversations, the bass from the bars, and the beach party soundtrack that goes strong until 2 AM. If you’re a deep sleeper or enjoy unintentional DJ sets, you might be fine.

Now, the real nightmare: the bugs. I got absolutely wrecked at night. Slept fully under the sheets intentionally, and somehow, they still found a way in. I usually attract mosquitoes, but these bites seem…different. They weren’t bedbugs. Tiny vampires? Who knows, but they had a feast.

On the upside, the location is solid, and for Koh Tao’s prices, the value is decent. The staff was great, super friendly, accommodating, and even refunded my last night when I decided I’d had enough and checked out a day early. I’m not a picky traveler—hostels are sometimes my jam—but between the bug attacks and the bass drops, this one wasn’t for me.
