Family Tanote Bay Resort in Koh Tao Island

Our room "Beachfront Bungalow" was canceled by the new operator at short notice due to renovation work. As a replacement, we were sold an exorbitantly overpriced room in the neighboring complex with a view of the street and parking lot, where we also had to pay extra. Therefore only one tired star due to unreliability and poor compensation! 👎 Even if the owner has changed, it would be my responsibility to ensure that my customers are compensated. I now have to pay an expensive 93€ a night for a room in the neighboring complex and that WITHOUT BREAKFAST but as I said with a view of the street and parking lot. I therefore cannot recommend Family Tanote Bay Resort at all!

The room had no water, tea or coffee. Only two electrical outlets besides refrigerators, none in bathroom. No restaurant on site. Had to walk over rough terrain to get to neighboring site to get something to eat or coffee. Obviously had not been maintained in a while. The staff were personable and tried to meet needs. The bed only a bottom sheet and a top sheet folded in with towels. No blanket or comforter.

We booked the hotel in advance, paid for everything, but they didn't even want to check us in. Then after our scandal they had to give us a room in a small house on the shore, but there is no sea view at all, it is blocked by a diving club. The hotel's beach area is a boat parking lot and an entrance to the sea for divers, we had nowhere to swim.

The view is amazing and peaceful if you are seeking solitude. But it is not worth the stay here.
Firstly, some of the staff are kind, but the manager and owner are rude. The rooms are nothing short of old and dirty. The ceiling fan was so dusty and dirty that we chose to sleep with the windows open. The only available lamp has clearly never been dusted and had exposed wiring. I wish I could post the photos. There are no amenities, just two old dry towels. The lighting is horrible. It was a steep climb to the room but view was good. The arm of the chair on the porch fell off when my fiancé rested on it. The food was horrible. I ordered fried chicken and got processed chicken and clearly (Tyson) frozen nuggets. We ordered scrambled eggs for breakfast and got sunny side up. My fiancé and I ordered the same basic breafast. He was served almost immediately; my food came about 20 minutes later and after later arrivers were served. I had to ask for it twice because they kept forgetting. Also,I sent my bread back because it was not toasted. I kindly asked for toasted. After reminding the server, I got it back about 10 minutes later with soggy edges. Fortunately while walking along the beach, we discovered a very nice hotel/restaurant next door called 'Lub D.' It has a variety of wonderful, freshly prepared food and beverage choices, a great view, and very nice wait staff.
Finally, this place (Family Tanote) accepts CASH ONLY. You would need to pay a taxi to drive you to the ATM. So, come prepared if you dare.
