I’m a solo female traveller and I’ve stayed in this hostel for a week and I’m really satisfied with the whole experience. I’ve stayed in female-only room, it had two bathrooms and was cleaned every day. The location is right near the Blue Mosque and other most famous attractions and it’s very easy to get to other parts of Istanbul from here. The hosts are very friendly and will tell you best and cheapest places to eat and where to go. The hostel is affordable and comfortable, would recommend for anyone but especially solo travellers:)

I have stayed at Avrasya Hostel on two separate occasions - once for a week back in July 2018 and again most recently for three days in December 2025. The location of the hostel is great - within 5-minute walk to Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque. But I regret to write that Avrasya has seriously gone downhill since I stayed there in 2018: breakfast, coffee & tea used to be served on the upstairs terrace, guests used to be numerous & jovial, and the hostel well maintained and cleaned regularly. Now in 2025, no breakfast or coffee/tea is provided and the upstairs terrace is unused and unkept. Don’t get me wrong, the toilet works and the shower has hot water but the bathroom in the mixed dorm could seriously use some good, deep cleaning. There appeared to be old stains on the bedsheet so I simply slept in my street clothes. The hostel is very affordable (17 USD/ night) and payment is cash only. There was only one other guest in the mixed dorm during my recent stay and now I understand why. It is so very unfortunate to see Avrasya fall into disrepair and disregard after all these years and I regrettably will not be staying at Avrasya in future visits to Istanbul.

As said by someone earlier, this place could be a gem because of its price and location but there are few things that could make it be a nono for some.

One: It is half assed clean like the back of the toilet seat in the picture, it is the same with rooms and showers, kitchen, fridge and terrace.

Second: although the guys who work there tend to be nice they live there full time which makes them feel they own the place and instead of being attentive workers towards their customers they start acting as if you are an annoyance. One of them would even lay down with his stinky as hell bare feet on the front desk couch and would look annoyed at you if you happen to wake him up with the sound of the door (my girl friend couldn't stand the smell of his feet which would fill the entire stairway). Then they would get annoyed and shout to people who are sleeping in the same room as them if they happen to turn on the wrong light or make any noise.

This I see in many hostels now, in order to save costs they offer permanent allowance to their workers which ends up turning them into self proclaimed guests and owners and they treat the cleanliness and space as if it was their own making actual guests an annoyance 👎🏽

The location and price of this place were great. And the owner/manager was so nice.

Unfortunately the place was very dirty. The common kitchen was dirty, the refrigerator smelled. My room felt like it hadn’t been properly cleaned in a very long time.

This place could be the best gem if they invested more in cleaning.

I've been staying at this hostel for almost two weeks and am very grateful to the staff for the services they provide. The price is very reasonable. Manager Ali is very well-mannered and polite. He always keeps the place clean. You feel right at home. There's a terrace and a kitchen upstairs. It has everything you need to cook. The location is also excellent. There are markets and two beautiful mosques nearby. I express my deep gratitude to the entire staff and director Murat. I definitely recommend it!!!

The hostel is very good, the people are helpful and it is close to everywhere, right next to the historical and beautiful civilization, it is very quiet at night and you can sleep comfortably.😄

My stay at this hostel was incredibly uncomfortable due to inappropriate behavior from an older man named Cumhur, who claimed to be the owner. He repeatedly tried to sell boat trips and displayed unwelcome physical contact, kissing and touching me every time he saw me until I had to firmly tell him to stop.

Despite staying in a female-only dormitory, he entered my room uninvited and lingered for extended conversations when I was alone, making me feel unsafe. My roommate from Eastern Europe experienced similar treatment—he frequently came in when she was alone sometimes lying on her bed, kissed and touched her, telling her she was "like a sister" to him and boasting to her about his expensive car and a house in New York.

Beyond these unacceptable behaviors, the hostel itself was also poorly maintained. Although I noticed staff mopping the floor, dust remained in every corner. The shower was filthy, covered in mold and stains, and the kitchen was greasy and dusty, making it feel unhygienic.

Additionally, after checking out, I received what appeared to be an automated message from Murat & Neslihan asking for a positive review. It was evident that they were the actual owners of the hostel, yet Cumhur continuously tried to claim ownership himself.

This was, without question, my worst hostel experience. The combination of unsettling encounters and poor cleanliness made my stay deeply uncomfortable. I strongly advise female travelers to avoid this place for their safety and well-being.

Located right in the historical centre near the Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia, clean. Two bathrooms in the female dorm. Staff friendly and helpful.
