And perfect location. Close to great places to visit just a walk away! Good value.
I understand that under the Americans with Disabilities Act ADA, emotional support animals are not classified as service animals, and hotels are not legally required to accommodate them if they have a no-pets policy. However, the issue was not simply the policy. It was how the situation was handled.
I have documentation from my psychiatrist confirming my medical need for my emotional support dog. Rather than discussing options, showing empathy, or attempting to assist us in finding an alternative solution late at night after an 8-hour drive, the front desk employee repeatedly stated that an emotional support dog is not a service animal, without offering any support or guidance. The only options presented were to cancel the reservation or find separate accommodation for the dog.
While the hotel may have been within its stated policy, the complete lack of compassion, professionalism, and basic customer care was disappointing, especially from a 4-star establishment. Hospitality should include respectful communication and an effort to assist guests, even when policies limit available options.
As a result, at 10 pm we were left scrambling to find another hotel, which significantly disrupted what was meant to be a birthday celebration.
I hope management reviews not only their policies but also how staff are trained to handle sensitive situations involving medical needs.
1) Great view of the Space Needle
2) Close to the Climate Pledge Arena
3) Beautiful hotel
Cons: where to start?
1) the rooms are TINY including the bathroom. I’ve seen bigger toilet spaces on a plane. The toilet is very similar to an airplane toilet.
2) we went to happy hour at Otium at 5:30. There were 2 tables including us. Our server couldn’t be bothered to take care of us. We waited 10 mins for water and menus. The bartender had to remind her she had a table. She checked on us once after the food came and when we were done eventually the bartender cleared our plates. It was another 10 mins after that until she came to ask if we wanted the check. She was insanely attentive to the other table (I was facing them) she actually fully cashed them out and gave them the Valentine’s Day chocolates. When we finally got the check we didn’t get chocolates. I had to ask the hostess if we were supposed to get those and we were so she brought me some. Mind you we were there from 5:30-6:10pm and there were only 2 tables that entire time including us.
3) We got breakfast at Lardo. It was $74 before tip. Here’s what we got: a frozen 12 oz mocha, a 12oz hot mocha, chicken fried steak, and the all American (2 eggs, choice of meat, potato hash, & sour dough toast). Seriously the most basic of meals and it was insanely expensive especially for not being correct. They put jalapeños on the chicken fried steak that weren’t on the menu and weren’t requested. I also was given completely dry sour dough toast. Nothing at all. I had eggs over hard so it’s not like there was any yolk for the toast to be dipped in. All-and-all for $132 we got what we paid for we just won’t be back.
We got the breakfast package, which includes a voucher per night you're staying that covers any size drink and meal at Caffe Ladro. On the first day, we did the Chicken Fried Steak and Tuscan Flatbread, both of which were terrific. I tend to judge a place on their CFS and not only was it flavorful, but crispy and not at all greasy. On the second we got another CFS and the Chilaquiles, both of which were again fabulous and fueled us up nicely for the drive home.
Staff were all super nice and helpful, even when they were obviously busy with something else, and both check-in and check-out were quick and easy.
All-in-all, if I come back to Seattle again, I'll gladly stay at Hotel Astra again. (Especially if they add a hot tub 😉)
