Grand Karavan Hotel in Tashkent

I have no idea how this place has got so many good reviews. This is probably the worst hotel I have stayed in, in recent times. Cleanliness is highly questionable. Bathrooms have a very odd smell. Rooms feel old and weird.

We stayed here for total 4 nights in two installments, 2 nights when we first reached Uzbekistan and 2 nights after coming back from Samarkand. Because we were staying for 4 nights, they said they would offer free airport pick up and drop. But on the day of the pick up, they sent a ridiculously small Chevrolet Spark, which could barely fit us after our luggages. And on the day of coming back, they didn't even bother to deliver on their promise of airport drop.

First 2 nights when we stayed there, we stayed in a large double room. The bathroom smelled funny all the time. Bathroom fixtures are rusted. Bed linen are so old that it had a yellowish tinge. The room was dark and dingy. After suffering through that horrible room for 2 nights, I really wanted to cancel my second set of bookings and just stay elsewhere. But unfortunately, we left our luggages at the hotel to go to Samarkand. So I messaged them and told them that we didn't like the older room, we were ready to pay more, but wanted better room. So next time when we came back, we paid extra and expected a better room!! But what a disappointment!! The room was big. But even shabbier than the earlier one. Bed linen was not just yellow, it was torn in several places. The bathroom was so small that it was almost impossible to wash face in the wash basin. Due to the cramped space in the bathroom, the floor was getting wet again and again, and the drainage system was so faulty that all the water just stayed there, flooding the bathroom. The bathroom also had that super weird smell. So in fact, we paid extra to stay in a even worse room.

The breakfast is severely limited and not at all good. For some weird reason, their plates are tiny 6 inches plates. So to get your breakfast, you will have to get up 3-4 times at least.

The only relatively good thing about the hotel was that some staff were trying to help. Other than that, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone ever!!

It is a scam. For nearly 100$ price/night I even haven't got a water or tea in the room. The hotel itself located in extremely unpleasant and scary neighbourhood. That hotel ruined my first experience of Uzbekistan and I doubt I ever come back to this country.
