Aminess Younique Senses Resort in Vrboska

I stayed in two Aminess hotels during my stay. I booked to stay in this one because it came up in three searches under 'Best Spa Hotel in Hvar' Which was a lie, the spa had been closed since August, the first of many it would seem. Because the underlying issue with Aminess Resorts is that they simply want your money. None of the staff, from Reservations, Management all the way down to general staff could care less if you have a nice holiday. Not at this time of year. The season ends in September but they continue to charge high prices for a resort that is 70% closed, because they dont want to pay the staff. There is nowhere to get food from 9am until 7pm as all of the bars and beachside eateries are shut down. You can walk into Vrboska, but it's the same there. Just a constant feeling that tourists are 'unwanted' wherever you go. Until its time to give them money. Underneath the rooms is a building site, with noise all through the day. All of the watersports/activties equipment is locked away. Equipment all over the hotel is broken, including the air con in the rooms, but nothing gets fixed. The smell of raw sewage on the way to the restaurant in the evenings is utterly grotesque. I have experienced this in some countries but never to this extent in Europe, and certainly not in a five star hotel. The food is appalling, and I mean just awful. The kitchen staff just kind of throw it all out at the beginning so they can clear down and go home. Its a mass of overcooked smush that just sits there for three hours until it goes cold and congeals. The meat and fish resemble the material of boxing gloves. Everything fresh looks like it was prepared three days earlier, brown cabbage, dry salad, heat lamps that couldn't even melt ice cream. And oh my... The fruit flies. I wish I had taken photos, the fruit and desserts in the evenings were crawling with them, hundreds of them. They vomit on the food when they land and carry dangerous bacteria... Then after dinner the fruit was thrown in some juice, recycled, and put out at breakfast the next day. Just disgusting. I had a huge asthma attack in the room bought on by the broken air con filling the room with dry air and a huge amount of excessive perfume/air freshener. I changed rooms three times. The extent of the medical assistance I received was a glass of water. I had to move rooms myself over and over because they were atrocious. On the second day the lack of sleep (I was terrified and couldn't breathe deeply it kept waking me up choking) caused a migraine and I vomited, on the third day (above the building site with constant noise so I couldn't sleep in the daytimes either) I was so ill, and had gone three days with hardly any food. They begrudgingly sent a bowl of soup to my room (beef, I'm vegetarian) and arranged transfer to another hotel within the group. I am not sure where to begin. This was the worst travel experience of my adult life and the hotel group/staff dealt with the situation so badly it's beyond comprehension. I would not stay with this hotel group at all if I were you. Beyond all of the issues I had personally. The food is appalling. The staff at the end of season just couldn't care less, they are incredibly rude and just want to throw the food at you and go home. No food, no bars during the day, no entertainment, barely any activities. They just want your money but they couldn't care less if you have a nice holiday or not. I booked this hotel as it was advertised as The Top Spa Hotel in Hvar. When I arrived. The spa had been closed since August. I requested a quiet room on a higher floor, but as often happens, as I am a single traveller, they put me in the worst room in the hotel. As there was no spa I very politely requested a room upgrade, I didn't mind an extra charge, and I contacted reservations to ask if I could move to another hotel within their group in Brac, with a spa. No fuss, no complaining, I was perfectly polite and understanding as a fire caused the spa to close, which was obviously difficult for the hotel, despite the extra cost and the waste of my holiday time. I arranged to leave early and change hotels. The food in the restaurant was absolutely appalling. The worst I have ever encountered in a hotel chain. I work as a Speciality Diet Chef, I specialise in allergen safety and I work as a Freelance Restaurant Consultant helping hotels and restaurants to work safely with customers to provide a safe environment to eat in. During my stay I found a Fish Stew containing shellfish that was labeled as a Vegetarian Potato Stew and a Hazelnut Ice Cream with no signage at all. This could have caused anaphylactic shock and death. The lady in front of me was on her second helping and said it was coffee. Good job she didnt have a nut allergy. When I told the restaurant manager. She laughed, and said, sometimes they forget the signs (?) Blows my mind how little they care, especially when the staff are not even trained to deal with allergic reactions. This was nothing compared to my experience. I returned to my room on the first night the air conditioner was broken. Now still, I think that the air freshener was coming from the broken air vent. I am unsure. Reception contacted housekeeping to ask but they couldn't care less at that time of night. Never did answer me. But the level of perfume in the room was off the charts excessive. I couldn't breathe and had a severe asthma attack. My first in over ten years, and honestly my worst ever, I have never had an issue like this before. Arrived at the hotel, the carpet in our bedroom was wet in places and had a stench of urine. We ate a meal at the beach bar which was substandard. Not many items on the menu were available. Staff were arrogant and rude. Shortly after our arrival, a fire started in the spa. Staff did not show leadership in managing this. Witnessed a teenager helping a family with a baby from their balcony. The teenage also helped a disabled child in a wheelchair whilst staff stood around. No communication from staff as to what to do or fire evacuation process. Most disturbing was no fire/smoke alarms or sprinklers. After fire was contained by fire brigade guest not given advice or support as to what to do. Guests wandering into hotel which was smoke filled to collect luggage/possessions with no guidance from staff. Would not recommend this place, a safety risk. What we saw of the hotel was poor. Swimming pool area filthy. Do not stay here, we had a lucky escape. Cannot begin to think what would have happened if the fire started during the night when guest were sleeping with no alarms or leadership from staff.

After 1.5 hours after arriving at the hotel there was a fire. The fire and smoke alarms or sprinklers did not go off. Our friend was escorted from his room by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus as the smoke was overwhelming. We helped families to safety from their balconies. We didn’t see staff during the time of the fire and it seems like they did not know what to do. We left the hotel immediately after as we did not feel safe to stay there due to lack of obvious and basic safety procedures. I would recommend to you to not stay at this hotel until the incident has been investigated and the necessary and basic precautions have been put in place ie fire alarms. We have video evidence of the above is needed.
