Never again: Half-board disappoints

We stayed at the Parkhotel Forest for a weekend.

On the positive side, the parking lot, which was monitored by video surveillance throughout our stay, the smooth check-in process, the cleanliness of the room, and the modern bathroom were all positive aspects.

Unfortunately, there were also several issues that significantly impacted our stay. The beds in our room were, in our opinion, quite worn and therefore not very comfortable.

We had booked half-board and were particularly disappointed with dinner. On the first evening, we were seated in the restaurant at 6 p.m. and, without prior notice, were placed at a table with a stranger, even though several other tables were available. Everyone involved found this situation unpleasant. Despite complaining at reception, we didn't get our own table until the breakfast two days later (our departure day); at breakfast the following morning, we were seated in the same situation again.

The menu on the day of arrival consisted of five courses (including a beetroot appetizer, pumpkin soup, boiled beef with a light cream sauce and dumplings, coconut cake, and salad). The food did not meet our expectations in terms of taste. Furthermore, due to our lactose intolerance, we were unable to eat parts of the dishes (especially the soup and sauce) and therefore could not fully enjoy dinner. We were not offered any options or asked about dietary restrictions beforehand. The five courses were served within approximately 30 minutes.

We did not have the second dinner included in our half-board package and ate out instead. The breakfast buffet was generally acceptable, but in our opinion, it could be improved.

In conclusion: Since the hotel restaurant was particularly important to us when booking, and it did not meet our expectations, we would choose a different hotel for a future stay in Marienbad. We were still charged for the dinners included in our half-board package.
