This is the fourth time in five years that I've stayed at this hotel. We always take one of the "budget" rooms. They're not fancy but they are quiet, clean, comfortable, and secure. The pool is fantastic, there are places to sit outside, nice gardens, the staff are friendly and professional. There is an onsite restaurant which is serves good but basic food. Tropicana Hotel is the one of the best valued hotels in Santo Domingo. For one night you can get a decent room for $30 USD. You can upgrade for $40 for the night to a room with a decent view of the courtyard and pool. The hotel is a bit outdated however, it does preserve its old school charm. Decent hotel for decent price. Wish they offered more to towels and that windows easier to open. Stove was dirty but we didn't use. Beds were comfy and reception was always super nice. The people at the restaurant were not the best.

The room was very basic, nothing special. We had standard room, for two people it is very small, bathroom is very small, the door of bathroom was broken, so as the shower. AC worked wonderful saved us from the heat outside. Also there is a big fridge in the room , safe, table, chair, TV, wardrobe and Queen sized bed. Breakfast was very good.

Great Juneteenth stay The location of the stay was perfect, literally steps from the beach--we were thankful for that. The breakfast was amazing, and the staff is A-1. The only problem I can say there is with the place, is the size of the beds. If you're on the smaller side, you have nothing to worry about. They were under construction in the layout of the lights in the room were uncomfortable. You couldn’t turn the lights off and have the fan running so if you turned off the lights, the fan would turn off, which makes no sense. Why wouldn’t the fan be able to run independently from the lights on the other side of the room that was a bother.
