Monk's is dump. It's so decrepit and filthy that I left early and checked into another hostel. I've been nomadic for years and have stayed at over 100 hostels. I've never left early, but Monks is that gross. It also has a notorious bed bug problem. I was in the part of the building directly to the left when after the street entrance. There were dirty laundry bags piled everywhere. The floors were destroyed, as was most of the furniture. The locker doors were broken. The walls were crumbling. The paint on the doors was literally dissolving into flakes on the floor. This place is horrific. Anyone who says otherwise has bad vision or has never stayed at another hostel. Tallinn is one of my favorite cities, but if this was the only hostel there, I would never return.

The hostel is a construction site. All of the courtyard and outside ares are in construction, you have to walk through a building site to exit and enter the hostel-as a party hostel ,that promotes drinking, this is extremely unsafe. Not only this, work starts very early and very late disrupting sleep. Because of the construction no windows in the hallway could open. It is unsafe. Furthermore the rooms are basic even for a hostel, not only is the cleanliness bare minimum with crumbs from previous guests and stuff shoved down the side of beds and stained bed sheets, the light in our room did not work the windows did not open, there was one mirror in a 10 bed dorm and it was behind someone’s bed, there was no fan or ac and the door did not lock. As mentioned by other users you feel very unsafe as the front door does not lock and neither does your bedroom door. There are no laundry facilities. Instead they charge you 10€ to wash your clothes. My clothes were ironed or folded for this price.

This hostel doesn't follow its own rules. Booking on Hostelworld makes you agree to all the conditions, including being older than 18 and younger than 40. But all of a sudden, a guy who's at least 60 and speaks no English whatsoever stays in the same dorm. I felt very uncomfortable about this, but as no other bed was available and it was already 11:30 PM, I was forced to stay in the same room. Me and other guests were disturbed by his snoring, loud packing and behaviour. The following morning I saw another old guy, staying in one of the other rooms. Staff tells me they made an exception and that it's their rules so they can change it at any time. Meanwhile, if you as a guest don't follow the rules, it's a fine of 100 euros... They only follow those rules that suit them and their wallet, not the wellbeing and comfort of the guests. This made me feel uncomfortable, unsafe and not being taken seriously. Manager doesnt take his responsibility. Avoids talking to guests when there are issues, because "he only takes written requests". If you operate a hostel well, you deal with both positive AND negative issues!! Sadly, THE TRUTH IS THAT THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU AT THIS HOSTEL. I left one night earlier than I was supposed to and was refunded for that night but got no compensation whatsoever for the night when this happened or for the way I was treated my the manager and a member of staff. People, please be kind to yourself and find another hostel! AVOID THIS HOSTEL AT ANY COST!! P.S. Smelly showers, dusty rooms, unbearable noise from the street don't make the experience any better

The hostel and rooms themselves are a bit ran down and appear grubby however for the price you pay it’s worth every penny. The staff were sound and the bar crawl was a brilliant night out. Great location in Tallin and plenty of other solo travellers.

I loved this hostel so much! I wish I could stay here longer! Friendly and super cool staff, warm atmosphere, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms…what else can you expect for a trip in the coldest winter? Most importantly, the location is great!

Friendly staff, great location, nice facilities and awesome people!
If you're hoping to meet new magnificent people while travelling to Tallinn, this is the place. If your life is over without getting 9 hours of sleep in total silence, stay away.
100% recommend and I will definitely be back!
Thank you!

It all starts at the bartender he is the administrator and free doses of alcohol. One word - a drinking establishment for young with places to sleep, but not otherwise - otherwise You are welcome even if you have a reservation and I came to them late in the evening
