Description

16Eur - Fat Margaret's is a budget-friendly hostel in Tallinn offering a variety of room types including dorm beds (with female-only options), and standard single to quadruple rooms. Guests will find minimalist, clean accommodations with some rooms featuring private bathrooms. The hostel includes communal facilities such as a fully equipped kitchen, a games room with table tennis, and a bar. Notably, it has a sauna and a cold water pool available free of charge in the mornings, providing a spa-like experience at a low price. Free bike rentals and parking are also available. While the beds are comfortable, several guests noted thin walls and some noise issues. The staff generally receive praise for politeness and helpfulness, although language barriers with some receptionists have been reported. The hostel’s simplicity and cleanliness, combined with added amenities like sauna and pool, make it a practical option for travelers prioritizing location and budget.

Location

Located at Põhja pst 27 in the Pohja-Tallinn district, this hostel is just a few minutes' walk from Tallinn’s Old Town northern gate. The Estonian Maritime Museum and the ORP Orzeł Incident Memorial are both within 200 meters. The port is about a 5-minute walk away, convenient for travelers arriving by ferry. For beach visits, Kalarand is only 400 meters from the property. Nearby public transport options include bus and tram stops, making it easy to reach other parts of the city. The location offers excellent access to cultural sites and markets, while being slightly outside the Old Town means nights tend to be quieter than inside the historic center.

Tips

  • Bring your own toiletries as the sauna and shower areas provide only soap, not shampoo.
  • To avoid noise disturbances, request a room away from busy roads or other guests when booking.
  • If you have an early ferry or arrival, be prepared that the reception might not be staffed 24/7, so plan accordingly.

We stayed at Twin beds rooms each with private bathroom and shard bathroom. The man from reception was calm and polite. The rooms are neat, tidy, clean and minimalist. The sauna and cold water pool was nothing fancy but functional and practical ones. The only downside was not providing soup and shampoo in the sauna and the shower rooms. The location was very near to old town but the price was cheaper.

The receptionist couldn't explain anything to us because she only spoke Estonian and English, while we spoke Russian and Finnish. You should always find a way out of a situation, rather than repeating "I don't speak Finnish" or "I don't speak Russian" over and over again. That's why the service is rated so poorly. The room itself is nice, clean, and comfortable. The location is excellent, as it's close to the port, and we're driving further into Finland.

Hostel was quite clean, but honestly I would not come back there as for this price there is lot of better options. I will point thin walls as huge minus as we could hear conversations from other rooms at night. As for rooms, they look better on photos than are in reallity.

Stayed with my husband for a night from 4.01 to 05.01. The hostel is nice, when we arrive there was a really nice administrator who let us store the luggage in a luggage room before the check in. We had room with own bathroom. There is only soaps, so keep it in mind. Can buy shower gel from the reception. The room was little bit cold but we were so tired from the trip, so we didn't care so much. There is also really good common kitchen, can keep food in the fridge, can cook, make coffee. Also there is sauna which is free in the mornings, as well as waffles. Unfortunately we had to check out before that.

About -:
We had a ferry at 7am, so had to check out early. It was said that the reception is open 24/7, but when we arrive at 6am there was nobody. We could just leave our key to check out but we had our heavy luggage in luggage room and we needed a key from the administrator. We tried to call a number which we could find but no answer. Then we decided to go to the nearest gas station to get breakfast, when we get back at around 6:15 still nobody on the reception. Because we were already late, we had to take the luggage key from the reception desk by ourself which felt not right. What's the point of the luggage room if anyone can take a key? Only when we took luggage and came back to return the key we saw the administrator (another guy, not that nice from the evening before). He didn't care that we took the key, just said to drop all of the keys to the return box and then he left to the room next to reception. At least put a note that we can knock that room and find a worker if there is nobody present on the reception. We could be late.
Aldo when we were leaving, there was a blood on the door sign 🫣 I guess something happened at night, was not like that the evening before

One of my best hostel experiences. I had a privat double room with an en-suite bathroom. The whole hostel was incredibly clean. The showers are great with good water pressure. The spa with a pool and sauna make you feel as if you were in a fancy hotel. The waffles for breakfast are fantastic. The staff is super nice. I would come here again, for sure.

I love this place - stayed there on numerous occasions in an all-female dorm. A very nice common space downstairs with kitchen. Perfect location for boats, train, old town. And, last but. not least: when I forgot my charger, they kindly mailed it to me!!!

For the low price of 16€, it can't get better. Hostel looks like it has had a renovation recently. Quiet rooms and safe doors. The hostel has a sauna and pool. There is a shared kitchen. Also, there is a ping pong table. The beds are really comfortable. If you want to go on the boat in the morning then you could sleep there really good.

Nice hostel right at the gates of Tallins Old Town. Suits perfectly those who look to see the town at an afordable price.
It has both rooms with own bath and rooms serviced by a common bathroom.
Rooms are furbished with the basic furniture, minimalistic, but clean with comfortable beds. You do not need more if you are a real traveler. A common kitchen for those who want basic cooking, tea and coffe, etc is available at any hour - a very good feature for those that need flexibility. They have spa and pool but access hours are in the morning, when you would rather go site-seeing, and not relaxing in the pool.
I would stay here every tyme I go, and I warmly recomend it for those who are not seeking position, availability, functionality and optimum price.

Great stay with great value for money.
The location was super, near to the sights, near to the port and there was a nearby market as well. The place was clean and our check in process was quick and smooth. Quite place with great value for money.

Rooms are not isolated. When the neighbors are talking, you’ll hear every word. The second night of my visit, I woke up 4.45 am hearing the neighbors talking. I asked the night shift staff to handle and they take action immediately. I really appreciate that.

The room itself was clean, simple but it had everything I needed. Kitchen is big with a lot of items to borrow if you want to cook. To my surprise, they provided waffles batch in the morning for guests to make their own, but you have to be early tho.

Location is good, definitely recommend
