Berghotel Hoher Knochen, nestled on a hilltop in Sauerland, offers a picturesque setting with sweeping panoramic views. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed by a pleasant terrace at the entrance, perfect for enjoying the scenic surroundings.
During my visit, it was apparent that the hotel was facing staff shortages, which affected the service. Nevertheless, the staff remained friendly and accommodating.
The lunch experience was enjoyable, featuring a salad with trout and a glass of Rivaner. Fresh and well-balanced flavors characterized the meal. However, the dinner dish, schnitzel with pfifferlingen (chanterelle mushrooms), predominantly featured regular mushrooms, which was a minor disappointment.
The bottle of Hochdörfer grüner silvaner was excellent.

One of the hotel's notable features is its extensive spa facilities, including a sauna, swimming pool, and relaxation areas. While certain areas of the spa may appear somewhat dated, they are well-maintained and provide a serene environment for relaxation.

The single rooms at the hotel are compact, and the beds are somewhat narrow. However, the rooms are clean and comfortable.

We had Suite 98. Wonderful view of the landscape. However, a few of the balcony tiles were wobbly and a tripping hazard. The rooms were OK, but could use a paint job. We were only able to book half-board. Breakfast was adequate. The coffee was delicious. Dinner wasn't to my taste. There were three dishes to choose from. Unfortunately, the dishes were only served lukewarm. Despite requests for the food to be served hotter, I didn't notice any improvement. I suspect the food was pre-cooked and only heated up for eating. A big minus for me. The small sauna area had a sauna and an inhalation cabin. The swimming pool was too cold in my opinion. My husband and I couldn't make it in because of the cold water. We ended up just using the whirlpool. We paid more than €350 per night for the booking and find the price/performance ratio too high. The hotel's four stars are also unjustified. The hotel's biggest plus points are the view and the truly friendly staff.

For us, two people with a dog, the hotel was a true oasis of relaxation over Christmas. It's wonderfully quiet up here, and many beautiful hikes are accessible directly from the hotel. The evening meal (a buffet) was truly delicious, and the fantastic breakfast buffet left nothing to be desired... and was available until 11:30 a.m.... fantastic!

We wanted to start 2025 with a stay at the mountain hotel we already knew from previous visits. So we arrived on the afternoon of January 1st. The weather was so-so, no snow, but that would change the next day. We had reserved our favorite room, No. 89 in the Rothaarblick house, quite early in the fall. The welcome at reception was very friendly. We stayed there for about five days and once again felt very comfortable. The personal service from the owner family is simply fantastic, and then there's the skilled and mischievous demeanor of the head waiter, Niki, who is always up for a laugh. After these days at the mountain hotel, there are only positive things to report. The friendliness of the owner and the entire hotel team, and the wonderful cuisine that we were able to enjoy every evening as part of the half-board package. The only negative thing after returning from these relaxing days was looking at the scales in the bathroom, which clearly showed our sins. Well, then we ate a few days of minimal food at home, and then everything was back to normal. We'd love to come back. Thank you, Mr. Kevekordes, for these wonderful days! bdzons

Berghotel Hoher Knochen During our stay at the charming Berghotel Hoher Knochen in Schmallenberg, we enjoyed peace, comfort, and breathtaking views. This charming hotel is ideally situated in a serene setting, perfect for unwinding. The Suite Our suite was exceptionally comfortable and equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The decor exuded warmth and coziness, with ample space to truly feel at home. However, what impressed us most was the view from the suite. Through the large windows, we looked out onto a beautiful winter landscape, with a blanket of snow transforming the surroundings into a fairytale-like backdrop. The Location Berghotel Hoher Knochen is situated in a peaceful location surrounded by nature. Surrounded by forests and hills, the hotel offers direct access to hiking trails and other outdoor activities. The snow during our stay added an extra touch of magic to the already beautiful surroundings. Conclusion If you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy nature, then Berghotel Hoher Knochen is highly recommended. The comfort of the suite and the spectacular view make for an experience you won't soon forget. We look forward to returning in a different season to explore the area even without snow.

The Berghotel Hoher Knochen enjoys a prominent location on the Hoher Knochen mountain, offering excellent hiking opportunities and magnificent views of the Hochsauerland region. However, the stairs leading to the hotel entrance are insufficiently cleared in snowy weather. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, but some have windows that don't close. Furthermore, the soap dispensers in some bathrooms and some showers in the pool are empty. Even upon explicit request, the rooms are not cleaned or are cleaned very rarely, and the beds are not made, due to a lack of staff. The buckles on the provided bathrobes are all torn. Worn carpets can be found in the dining room and many other parts of the building. The three-course dinner does not correspond to a four-star hotel, neither in terms of selection nor in terms of quality ("commercial kitchen level"). The breakfast buffet has the problem that, due to a lack of staff, rolls, sausage, and cheese are not replenished or are replenished late. For four days in mid-November, there was no butter available, or only salted butter. Although the entire staff is friendly and helpful, the Berghotel Hoher Knochen is only a 3-star hotel by objective standards.

We stayed here for a full week's vacation in the first week of August. Rarely in the Sauerland region, the weather cooperated, and so it was mostly nice. We had booked in the spring and got our preferred room, Room 89. This room is located in the Rothaarblick building, is a suite with a balcony and a wonderful view towards Westfeld and Ohlenbach. Check-in wasn't as we're used to at other hotels. We arrived at the hotel at midday, too early, and when I politely asked if the room was ready, the receptionist replied brusquely and snappily: Check-in only possible from 3:00 PM! The lady apparently didn't think it was appropriate to answer my question. Okay, but that's the only criticism of our stay at this hotel: the breakfast buffet was very good, the half-board evening meals were superb, and the quality of sleep was sensational due to the absolute peace and quiet. The owner's presence was exemplary, always approachable. The staff, without exception, were very friendly and helpful. I can only warmly recommend a stay here at the Hohe Knochen! bdzons

the place was clean and quite. rooms are sufficient for a short weekend stay. not far from ski lifts and has its own parking space. the staff are friendly.

Beautiful location in woods and hilly mountains. Loads of hiking options, many things in the hotel for kids like pool, ping pong, swimming pool. Outside playground for smaller children. Bike park and ski in Winterberg only 11 minutes away.
Large room, great breakfast, very attentive staff. Food good (not extraordinary). Hotel amenities show some signs of wear and tear. All in all good value.
