Hotel Schwarzwälder Hof in Freiburg

Great little hotel in the Freiburg Altstadt, easy to access via road (public parking garage just 50mrs away) or public transport (tram stop is 4min walk). Staff very friendly, rooms quiet, tidy and very comfortable. Free tea/coffee/water throughout the day if you like in the breakfast hall. Breakfast is perhaps less in terms of variety than you’d expect for a place this size, but all ingredients high quality and focus is on sourcing local stuff.

Freiburg im Breisgau is a very nice city at the edge of the Black Forest region. A must visit if you're in the area. And if you're looking for a hotel accommodation then I can highly recommend Schwarzwälderhof. It's a typical southern German styled hotel that breaths authenticity and charm (If you're looking for a place that has one of those cozy 'stubes' covered in wood.. yes, they have a very nice one). It's located in a couple of old houses, in one of what I think is the nicest areas of the old town. I'm sure you would agree. The room itself seems to have been recently renovated, was very spacious, comfortable and clean. The hotel also has a restaurant but at the time of stay it was closed (something to do with some virus... guess which one). The breakfast however, was very tasty and complete. Regarding accessibility: it's about 15 minutes walk form the train station, across the old town so also recommended. Or if you come by car the nearest parking garage is about 1 minute walk. One note: some rooms may be difficult to access for people with reduced mobility due to the location in an old house, which is, believe it or not, equipped with stairs. Nevertheless, this hotel is worth every Euro... and it's actually a very affordable place to stay.

This was our first European vacation and the Hotel Restaurant Schwarzwalder Hof was the perfect hotel for our experience. The staff was gracious, the rooms were beautiful and the area charming. Hopefully we will return to Freiburg one day and will absolutely stay at your hotel.

We had a totally enjoyable stay at this hotel.
The reception was warm and friendly, thanks to Angela. She made us feel so welcome. She was always patient as she answered all our many questions.
Our rooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
The breakfast was very good with many selections and endless servings of tasty hot coffee.
We had dinner in the hotel's resturant on two nights and the food was amazing. Just be sure to make your reservations early because the resturant is very popular.
Our rooms were in the "Traditional" building but we toured the "Modern" rooms in the annex and both were very nice. The annex is extremely close and a very quick walk away.
We will be returning soon.

Over the many years I have stayed with you my experience in general has been excellent. I never used the laundry much, perhaps only one time per visit; but I am sorry to see the deletion of the possibility to send wash to the laundry.
You have one of the best locations in Freiburg. The Engler family has gone out of their way to make my stays enjoyable.

The Schwarzwälder Hof is a great location right close to a large parking deck and the shopping district of Freiburg. We arrived early and were already allowed into our room. The -friendly cleaning lady coordinated when to clean the room individually with us. We were also happy that the water pressure in the shower was outstanding ;-)

Breakfast was good, the fresh fruit salad was even outstanding. When we had arrived at home the hotel emailed us because we had forgotten a dress shirt in our room. They were so kind to mail it to us the same day!

Overall a very pleasant stay that we can highly recommend to anyone visiting Freiburg.

Great location. Would have gotten 5 stars but, as per Europe, no air conditioning. Our room was good sized, and very clean, even had a balcony. Tiny, struggling elevator was very scary. Great, helpful staff. Would use again in a heartbeat

Building and restaurant are cozy and classic. Guest rooms are tight and very modern. There is a nice lounge to sit and read or socialize. Our bathroom had an extremely small shower stall, with a hand - held spray wand only. Great location near cathedral and tram lined. Very nice breakfast in their elegant restaurant. Reception staff very helpful.

Good location. Good food. Not a large restaurant but pretty good space between tables. Their waitresses are good in English. You may find they are short of manpower during peak hours. Be patient. Goodies take time to prepare.
