Mercure Hotel Duisburg City in Duisburg

Mercure Duisburg is quite a good hotel. Especially for the price we paid for 4 people. The sleeper couch was comfortable for the kids and the bed for us was nice. We also really enjoyed the breakfast (although we missed the bacon…). The swimming pool was actually nice. The kids enjoyed it a lot. The location is absolutely perfect. The main shopping street is behind the hotel on a couple of minutes walking distance. We enjoyed the Christmas market and the kids had KFC. There are nice shops as well. Parking was very reasonable. 12 euros for 24 hours. 

Some constructive feedback:
- the pillows are surprisingly flat. They didn’t have extra pillows left, other guests also asked for them. Might be good to change the pillows. Pillows are not that expensive nowadays, so Accor, please upgrade there. 
- there is only 1 lift. That was quite uncomfortable because the staff also uses the lift, especially also housekeeping with the carts. So sometimes it’s either you wait or you take the stairs. 
- the carpet could be changed. It’s clean, but looks old and worn out. They put up a funny poster, so that makes it a little better. But still, hopefully for the next renovation, please take that up as well. 
- the TV mainly had German channels. The news channels were also in English. The smart tv’s unfortunately didn’t have apps on like Netflix or Prime, etc. so I could log in with my own account. Neither was there a way to screen mirror my phone. So when the kids were sleeping I ended up watching a movie on my phone…

Some minor things, but we do recommend the hotel. If you have a bigger budget, you can find a more luxurious hotel I’m sure. We would come back again.

Good location

Breakfast was very good and luckily served until 10:30 a.m. because it was school holidays. The room was nice, too, although a bit small, but we had booked the cheapest category.
However, we chose this hotel because of the pool and sauna. The pool was broken and unusable. The sauna is actually available from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., but you have to call ahead or wait half an hour to use it in the morning. That's not a problem, but if you don't know, it's simply annoying. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time! It's a shame, because this could have been avoided with proper communication.

Nice room with practical furniture, comfortable bed, sufficient lighting and a nice bathroom. Nice extras such as coffee, water and refrigerator in the room. Also no shortage of power outlets. Entrance hall room is an extra asset.

Everything was good and I am at all satisfied

Nice clean rooms and reception desk was very welcoming.
Quiet room and nice walk-in shower in bathroom
Parking is very convenient and you get direct access to the reception without any stairs. A real plus if you have luggage to lug.
There’s a nice bar and restaurant but a major disappointment was that the night chef did not turn up and as a result we could only have bar food.
The hotel is conveniently situated next to several shopping malls some being high end, however all restaurants were pretty basic and fast food.
We opted for the bar food. Don’t go for the Goulash. This dish was absolutely dire.
Hotel booking agents show this hotel as having EV parking. This is not the case. Perhaps there is in the adjacent car park but not with the hotel.
The spa is also very basic.
This is a good business hotel and for us perfect for a stopover.

Great services, comfort and space are great from room to bathroom.

Body soap and shampoo were missing but that's fine.
Didn't try the swimming pool but I would love to.
