It's not a bad place at all as long as you understand that it's not going to be hotel digs for the price, which is the cheapest in town. It's old, the beds are pretty soft, and the place is like a maze - we got a room on the same floor as bathroom and showers so that wasn't a problem. The wifi was free and the password was posted on the walls. A cheap breakfast can be bought, and there's a fridge to store your perishables if you're camping. There are tons of full, varied styles gas canisters free for the taking from previous campers.
-Power went out the morning we were leaving and didn't come back on.
-No soundproofing at all, can hear every conversation.
-The heat in our room didn't work but they gave us a portable heater and that worked like a charm.
-Very close to the church and main streets.
-Staff was friendly and helpful.

I recently stayed at Captain Reykjavik for 5 days and it was great stay . The guesthouse is centrally located and within walking distance of the bus , making it very easy to get around town .

The room that I stayed in was cozy & clean , the guest house is very well kept , common areas were cleaned daily .

My one tiny ,small issue is that the pillow in the room were not great .

Don't waste your money

Extremely rude and unwelcoming host! My partner and I got a bad vibe and felt very uncomfortable upon meeting the host. I had been to 6 other hostel previously in Iceland and never met a bad host until Captain Reykyavik! Awful.

Beds were poor cheap quality and towels were very cheap. Shower overflowed. Huge bugs in shower light.

Upon arrival, host charged us more than price listed. Also said breakfast was not free. Very sneaky.

Stay somewhere else! Stay in Aurora Guesthouse which is right around the corner and MUCH better quality/nice staff!!!

Absolute garbage! Not as advertised (if you have lower ground rooms, that should be noted). Shared bathroom was on the other side of the building, so we had to exit onto the street, walk along the sidewalk, go through the garden and then enter the other portion of the guesthouse to access the washroom! Staff aren’t around to assist and no wifi provided.

Great deal.Awesome full breakfast included when we booked but also available as an add on for about $5...steal of a deal. Clean shared bath. Key combo access was messed up do door to entry was not always secure. Rooms are up two floors and have keys so we were not worried about security. Walk to main drag less than 10 minutes.
