Hotel Al Faro in Licata

We checked in this afternoon. The location is great, with pleasant views (across a parking lot) of the marina. Close to everything in Licata, which is why I initially booked the room. . . But that's where my positive comments end. . .
The hotel is cute and classic in a '50's kitschy way, but could use some serious updating. The television screen was about the same size as my laptop screen, the bed was excessively firm (slightly softer than rock. . . maybe pumice?). But my problem was with the WiFi , which was utterly useless. It went in and out, never achieving speeds better than about 300kps. Although I am here on vacation, I do need to check in with work a couple times/day and cannot rely exclusively on my phone for internet. So Wifi that isn't strong enough to stay connected for more than 45 seconds simply isn't acceptable.
So we decided we had to find another place to stay. I was aware that the $164 I paid for 2 nights was not refundable, so when we checked out I was not expecting (nor did I request) a refund. Nonetheless, the very friendly woman working the front desk insisted on calling her "capo" (manager). She got on the phone and had a brief conversation with her manager. She then told us that her manager said, "there was no problem with the WiFi. It works perfectly well and no other guests had any complaints". . . Well, I checked the WiFi in the lobby as well as the restaurant. It didn't work any better. And we were essentially the only gusts under the age of 70. No offense to older folks, but I'm assuming they would be less likely to be reliant on internet. . .
Ultimately, I wouldn't even be writing this review if the manager of the hotel (who wasn't even on-site at 3 in the afternoon). For him or her to claim there was no problem with the Wifi and not even offer us an apology (let alone a partial refund), is NOT the kind of customer service experience I expect from any hotel.
I am pleased to report that we are now checked into Villa Giuliana and are extremely happy with our choice to leave Al Faro and come here. I am writing this email with WiFi that hasn't gone down yet and has satisfactory speeds. :)
