Hotel Sella in Selva di Val Gardena

Now a slightly bizarre review! I’ve only attempted to walk past the hotel and had a bad experience. After a snowfall, the drive was being cleared with snowplough. The driver ( hotel owner?) then went to clear the path to the side of the hotel with a shovel and took great delight in telling us we could not walk past and would need to walk back down towards the village. No interpersonal skills and zero empathy. He was maybe having a bad day- or a bad life. Rated 92 of 96 hotels on Tripadvisor perhaps tells it all.

Stayed here with a group of friends. They give only one key per room, which is quite a big problem as we don't always have same pace with the roommate. Requested for 2nd keys but they refused, which is very strange nowadays with electric key cards. Location is ok and all services of the small village nearby. You can ski in and out but only one narrow route to connect lifts (also have to walk a bit) and slopes. Huge ski room had plenty of room, but ski boots dryer did not dry completely (operates too short time?). Stairs to the slopes are very dangerous and outside walking way icy too. They do not serve dinner, only breakfast. Breakfast was quite nice, but eggs are only warm dishes you get (and you have to boil them by yourself). We had half board booked and dinners were in another hotel, where service was very nice, and also dinner quite nice with four dishes each night. Room was super small, no proper room for the luggage. Some rooms bigger though. Only few has balcony. Some rooms cold some super hot. Bed and pillow not very comfortale, and we got one queen size bed even though requested twin beds. Cleanliness was good, but towels not changed daily. Hotel has a small bar, not open very late. There is also very nice sauna and large swimming pool. But it was very strange that sauna water bucket and laddle disappeared after two nights, also other guests were looking for these as it is Finnish sauna where you actually are supposed to throw water on the stove.. so you have to prepare with other ways to throw water (water bottles etc). By the way, photos on website were not same as actual sauna facilities on site. Not bad, but next time if visiting this village I will choose some other hotel.
