The cave room was very well maintained and clean. We enjoyed our stay. Domenica was very responsive to all our questions prior to our arrival. She was very welcoming and gave us a lot of tips and recommendations on how to make the most of our short stay in magical Matera.

It’s a very nice cave hotel that is very conveniently located to explore the old Matera on foot. It is safe and quiet at night. There is also a very good restaurant right outside the door Dominica was absolutely wonderful. She came to meet me all the way at the airport, even though my flight was delayed and I didn’t arrive until the evening. She also gave me a detailed information on what to see in the town, the most important landmarks, where to go for nice views, where to go out to eat, etc. She essentially provided me with the whole itinerary for my 3 day stay on Matera, which was incredibly helpful. Throughout my stay, Domenica was very helpful and a pleasure to communicate with. I would definitely recommend this unique hotel.

If you’re looking for a truly unique and memorable experience. I highly recommend staying at Casale di Maria in Matera. Domenica goes above and beyond with her attentive and welcoming service. She offers great tips on getting around town, where to go, and the best restaurants to try. It was an unforgettable stay - unlike any other hotel I’ve visited.

Hands down the best and coolest experience I’ve ever had. The location is awesome. The young ladies that works there was outstanding. She would make reservations for us and mapped out all the areas to go see! The room

We stayed for 1 night as we were traveling through Italy on a 30 year anniversary trip. This place was amazing! Clean! Perfect location! And the most perfect host ever!! Dominica was AMAZING! HELPFUL! CRAZY IN THE BEST WAY! The only thing I would have changed is if I could have kid napped her and taken her with us but we know that’s frowned upon. She made dinner reservations, explained the map and best places to see for photo ops and she is just plain joy! The room was beautiful and comfortable. They had transportation for us from the parking to our room and back (which I highly recommend). Communication with Dominica was at the top, she answered every question with in minutes, she has a true spirit of excellence! Matera is a must see. If I ever come back this is where I’d stay!

A must-have hotel for business trips. Very close to the event location. Very clean and comfortable. The bed is also very comfortable. The room is well-equipped. The breakfast is also good. A very satisfactory travel experience

It is very unique because is a real cave but with all the modern facilities. The host are great Domenica and Walter are extremely helpful and nice. Next to hotel there is an excellent restaurant with the typical food for lunch and dinner and very nice people also “da Nico”. We highly recommend and we will stay again in the future.

Amazing find in Matera
I stayed on short notice at Casale di Maria and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. The room was very charming and unique - in one of the historic sassi (cave hewn into the rocks) but with all the modern amenities you could wish for.
I had parked a long way away but Walter, the owner, gave me a ride to my car and guided me to a parking spot near the house where I could park without getting a ticket till the next morning. Domenica, who manages the property day-to-day, stayed in online contact to make sure there were no language difficulties. She also was very helpful with tips and restaurant recommendations.
The next morning I could get breakfast in a little cafe across the road. All in all a perfect stay in the heart of the historic sassi district.
