Palazzo della Fontana in Matera

I had a very pleasant experience at the Palazzo della Fontana. The staff was very kind and attentive, the room was very nice, spacious and clean, and the breakfast was plentiful, varied, and delicious. It's located in the center of Matera, and the price was really good for the quality and location. I highly recommend it.

A wonderful hotel in a wonderful city. If it had existed when PPP filmed "The Gospel According to Matthew," he would have stayed right here and also asked the very kind staff to act as actors/extras. Go there NOW.

I stayed one night at the Palazzo della Fontana with my girlfriend to visit the wonderful Sassi in Matera. The hotel is in a fantastic location, literally a stone's throw from the historic center of Matera and 100 meters from the first Sassi. The hotel is modern, with attention to every detail. The staff is young, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The room we were given was truly large, very bright, spacious, and very well furnished. Praise be to the mattress with a topper, which was really comfortable. The bathroom is also very beautiful and spacious. Finally, the breakfast the next day (no buffet for obvious Covid reasons) was truly excellent! At check-in, you chose whether to have a sweet or savory breakfast; we had both, and what can I say, superb! All fresh, high-quality, and, above all, local products. If you're planning to stay in Matera to visit the Sassi, I can only recommend this magnificent hotel for its location, room, staff, and, most importantly, breakfast!

The best 4-star hotel within my 13 days trip in Italy. Perfect location, very clean room and especially nice inteligent TV which can used to visit website. The reception had perfect English!

Located just inside the old town and 5 minutes walk from the ancient area.   Generous size room and excellent breakfast.   Perfect for visiting this special town.

Staff very helpful, location great for restaurants and the Sassi. Rooms are very modern and well designed.

Excellent location and beautiful modern rooms. Good communication. From the hotel location you can walk without stairs all the way to Piazza San Pietro Caveoso.

Parking & GPS terrible but good location.
If you have a carcthe parkinf situationnisvpretty terrible & GPS doesn’t tell you it’s on a pedestrian street. Can only unload your luggag 2-4 pm without dragging from a parking garage seversl blocks away( which btw costs 50 euros per night). That said,
good location, not the best breakfast we had….


Run by a young staff, coukd use some maturity in that arena.

Very good hotel, convenient position to experience all city. Will return if I have chance to come back Matera again
