This is an old, outdated hotel, and its remote location can be a bit inconvenient, but it's not far from Nikko Station. This pension has three strong points:
1. The thoughtfulness of the two elderly women who serve their guests, and the refined yet heartfelt meals.
2. The relatively affordable price.
3. The space, filled with antique furniture and decorations, exudes a sense of style.
I highly recommend it if you're looking for a quiet space and a unique travel experience.

However, the downside is that it's an older pension, so the facilities are outdated. The structure and management are not up to par.

This is a guesthouse in Nikko, about a kilometer from the station. You have to walk there, with some uphill sections and a section along a mountain path, which is quite magical.
The owner is an elderly woman, who runs the place with someone who might be her daughter. They create a very warm and comfortable environment!
The house looks a bit old, and there are some stone steps to walk up, which can be a bit tricky to carry large boxes. It's recommended to return to the guesthouse before sunset, as the mountain paths are not well lit, so you'll need a flashlight at night.
The guesthouse has a drink vending machine, which makes it easier to go shopping at night.
The facilities include a bathhouse (for single use, with a 30-minute limit on busy days) and a cafeteria (with breakfast and dinner included in the booking, the food is quite delicious, and there's a cafeteria with a certificate on the wall).
I think it's perfect for solo travelers or those traveling light. It's a great value and offers a unique experience. Being in the mountains, you might be a bit of a bug or spider here and there. However, it seems they've done their best to maintain the cleanliness; only the slightest signs of age can be seen. Recommended for those who are relatively poor or want to experience traditional Japanese homestays

This lodge is run by a senior madam and is located about a 15-20 minute walk from the station.
The rock bath was private (for 30 minutes). It was large and clean.
Our room faced the mountain so it was a little dark, but the bed was good.
Dinner was charcoal grilled meat and fish and was delicious. The plum wine aperitif was also excellent.
It was a very quiet and lovely lodge.
Above all, the madam was a lovely person.

A very special forest cabin🛖. If you like nature, you can consider staying here. You will definitely not be disappointed and the food is really delicious!

The shop owner is an old woman, and there is another one who should be her daughter, right? He was very kind and made dinner and breakfast very carefully and delicious. Although the facilities are slightly older, the former glory can be seen.
It feels amazing to live in the forest with a stream next to it.
(I wonder where the old man in the sign has gone...)

Location is special, we liked being in a forest by a stream and it was possible to walk to town. The place is old fashioned, simple small room, the bathroom needs more cleaning. Nice little onsen, all full of character. The owner is very kind, and the meals were excellent.

Beautiful location near a stream that u can hear at night, host was great. About 15-20 min walk into town and nearest restaurant but we enjoyed the beautiful walk . We stayed in the Japanese style room and where very comfortable.

I worked hard as an owner. I want you to continue in detail. I felt like I went to my aunt's house in the countryside, and it was generally good.

The narrow and steep stairs to the entrance make it difficult for people with disabilities to get there, but the service is good anyway. All the meals are polite and delicious, and you can feel the kindness of the owner. I want to go again.
