Kanto region, Tokyo, 1-23-3 Mukojima, Sumida-ku 🧭 Map
This is the only hostel I’ve stay in Japan, but this is one of the best I’ve stayed during my international travels. I had a private room on the second floor, convenient to laundry and eating area. Despite being directly under the trains, I found it quiet. Yes, you can hear the trains, but they don’t seem to run all night. I slept great, didn’t even need the ear plugs they provided at check in. Staff...
I've stayed at this hostel twice now, most recently I stayed here for 2 weeks and had an absolutely wonderful time! The people that work in this hostel are absolutely wonderful –always so friendly and welcoming! ☺️ Location: it's honestly amazing! It's so easily reachable from both Haneda and Narita airport because it's close to 2 different stations! I pushed my suitcase all the way to the hostel...
I’ve stayed in many hostels across Tokyo, this by far has been the most enjoyable. Great location and outstanding multi-lingual staff. The chicken curry is SUPREME! Be sure to order it if it’s on the menu… Definitely my new go-to hostel whenever I touch down in Tokyo!
I stayed here for almost two weeks and absolutely loved everything about this place and its surroundings. I even pushed my luggage all the way on a flat surface from Oshiage Skytree Station and took the Keisei Sky Access straight to Narita Terminal 1 — super convenient. The room was wonderful. I stayed in the female dorm and there was enough space for my luggage and personal belongings. I especially...
It is a relatively clean and sanitary hostel. However, there is no toilet or bathroom in the room. You need to use the public one. However, it is separate for men and women. The overall facilities are relatively clean. The room is close to the road. There are motorcycles on the street at night. It is a bit far from the subway station. It is not very convenient to drag a suitcase. But the price is relatively...
Stayed here for 2 nights after landing into Tokyo. It’s a friendly and clean hostel with great facilities! It’s slightly out of the centre, but easy enough to travel to via the metro and underground! It is under a train line that runs from 5am to 10pm so do expect some shaking and noise!

Kinugawaonsen Hananoyado Matsuya, Nikko1 / 30

Kanto region, Nikko, 19 Kinugawa Onsen Fujiwara 🧭 Map
We spent one night here with our family of four. It's a little out of the way, we used only public transportation but made it out ok. We chose this particular ryokan because of its authentic feel and we did not get disappointed. A fair amount of staff spoke English with us, which we really appreciated! We arrived just in time for dinner, which was super traditional, very good! When we got back to our...
Located next to the river with an outdoor onsen that you can listen to the roar of the river. Breakfast and dinner are exquisitely presented. With new rice cooked over a slow fire in front of you. The price performance is exceptional. Hana no Yado is one of those small family owned Ryokan that still are the dreams of a Ryokan holiday. From the greeting at the door when we drove up. To the sweets offered...
I think to some wanting to stay in Nikko might not realize that this is outside of the main town center but it’s so worth the extra train ride to go to this hotel/onsen after visiting the Nikko national park area. As other reviews stated there is the train station kinugawa koen you can take that is like a 2-5 min walk. We stayed in the room with futon and the style of the room was so traditional Japanese...
Beautiful Japanese style hotel. Staff were great, very helpful and friendly. Food was excellent. Onsen so relaxing snd beautiful. Place was perfect with river and mountain view. If you want to get away from it all and just relax, this is the spot Highly recommend this place and will surely return in the autumn
Nice local onsen hotel! It’s pretty Japan style. It’s not brand new, more over it is old. But they kept the condition and cleanness very well. Hotel stuff don’t speak English well but their politeness and friendly attitude make it no barrier.
If you're looking for a warm, traditional ryokan experience this is it! Exceptional hospitality started before we entered the building. We got a package deal for the night which included dinner and breakfast. Both meals were absolutely exquisite. Every dish was rich with flavour and prepared beautifully and promptly. The onsen is nestled with an evergreen canopy, looking out onto the river as is rushes...

It's easily accessible from the highway. The room didn't have any special amenities, but it was well-cleaned and I had a comfortable stay. The food was mostly homemade and delicious. When I travel, portions can be too much and leave me feeling exhausted, but this was just right. I booked a bread-making service, which both the kids and adults enjoyed. The freshly baked bread was so delicious that we...
My husband and I stayed here as a couple. I used to come here every year on family trips when I was a child, and even as a child I had fond memories of it being a great place, so when we went on our recent trip to Nasu, we decided to visit for the first time in 20 years. It turned out to be just as wonderful an inn as I remembered. I learned that this year marks the 31st year of operation, and the...
Family of four (ages 2 and 5) Stayed in September 2025 The price was reasonable, the reviews were good, and we'd been staying in hotels a lot recently, so we chose this pension. I'm very satisfied with our stay. The wife's service, the thorough cleaning, and the facilities were all excellent. The couple's hospitality was very evident, and we had a comfortable and safe stay. (I wish I could have met...
Our family of four stayed here during our trip to Nasu. - The building itself isn't new, but it's very well-maintained. The owner's efforts were evident in the rooms, hallways, and bathrooms. - We had the steak plan for dinner and Japanese food for breakfast (Western breakfast is also available). It was clear that the food was homemade and carefully prepared. It was delicious and we were very full...
We stayed at this hotel for a trip with our family of three, including our 1-year-old son. The room was a Japanese-style room, and there were no furniture that children might touch. The TV and power outlets were fixed to their stands, which I felt was very considerate for traveling with children. The in-room refrigerator was also large, which was very useful as we had brought our own meals. The kids...

A great accommodation located in the heart of the city. It's close to Suitengumae Station on the Hanzomon Line and Ningyocho Station on the Hibiya and Asakusa Lines. It offers easy access to most major attractions. The area where the accommodation is located is a quiet and peaceful office/residential area, making it quite peaceful. It was also a great place to stay alone. The manager was friendly...
This older business hotel is pretty awesome to me. It has old school vibes from 80s/90s. If you are not into that and like newer designs/rooms/atmosphere, it might not be your style/preference, which is fair. The bathroom is definitely old style/small (still clean though). 2nd time staying here. Very well located near to TCAT, subway stations, 24/7 supermarket and convenience store! A quiet neighborhood, a perfect place if youre not a night person like me :) And also, its an old school style hotel, so you can feel the vibe of old Japanese style.
Great location for visiting many attractions, and the room is comfortable enough for a pleasant stay.

Everything is ok except the pillow too flat and the towel is not really absorb water
I really loved my stay at Wagokoro! The staff are so friendly, helpful, and informative, and their service is superb as well. I feel so at home and warmly welcomed whenever I return to Wagokoro, everything there is just cozy and pleasant. The room is also great: simple, clean, and warm. I love everything here and would definitely like to stay again when I return to Japan!
Great location, and walking distance to Nippori station which is one of the stop for airport Skyliner. The room and bathroom are pretty small, but they are clean, functional and cozy. If prefer to stay in a quiet neighbourhood, while close to public transportation with convenient stores and supermarket nearby, this is the place.
The front desk/reception ladies were so kind! The free coffee (hot/ice) is a lovely touch. Very clean. My only comment is that the walls are pretty thin, but it didn’t bother me. I saw a lot of families stay here and the area is residential and peaceful.
Really nice and clean with very friendly staff! We enjoyed our stay. I like that it’s in a quiet neighbourhood. It’s a little bit of a walk from the station but isn’t too bad if you haven’t got lots of luggage. Nippori is also fairly close to the places we wanted to visit in Tokyo, so it was ideal. Overall, a great place to stay!
Pleasant service and a nice room with almost everything you need. The wall is thin therefore you might hear your neighbors during sleep, but I guess it is not uncommon in Tokyo.

A budget friendly place to stay. We had the 2 beds room with tatami mats, no TV, a decent sized private bathroom. AC runs ok and is a little on the rough side when cooling a completely warm room. There was a dog run and the dogs seemed to have a lot of fun.
It is a pension where you can stay with your dog. The owner couple are very warm, gentle and welcoming. Although it is small, there is a dog run, and the dogs are satisfied. The food is completely homemade and very healthy and delicious. It's not fancy, but it's enough to fill you up. It's a great location to escape the heat in the summer and enjoy skiing in the winter.
I stayed with my pet. The food is delicious and the facilities are beautiful. The service is also attentive. Kirara is also healed.
It is a clean and homey good pension. A delicious meal with plenty of vegetables. Toilet and bath are shared but clean. If it is with a dog, Kita Karuizawa best friend may be.
It is a pension that can be spent with Honobono. A small open-air bath is also great. I wished the food was so full of vegetables (laughs).
It was used in 2013 Feb 9-10. To enjoy snow at Karuizawa Snow Park (Wanwan Paradise, Dog Run), you can arrive in 30 minutes by car. It is very convenient geographically. I think it is a convenient place to go to a dog run both winter and summer.

I stayed here in February. The room was warm and the bath was clean. The staff were very polite and kind, and I was able to relax and enjoy my stay! I would definitely stay here again if I have the opportunity.
I was exhausted from my motorcycle trip and made a last-minute reservation to stay here. I was traveling alone, but I accidentally booked a double room. However, when I consulted with the owner, they were very helpful and added breakfast to my room reservation, even though it was originally for a room-only stay! I stayed here on a solo trip. The bookshelf was filled with Ghibli DVDs and other films, and it was very comfortable to spend time alone in my room. However, what I enjoyed most was chatting with the owner in the living room. The owner was very kind, and I felt completely at home. I didn't notice any issues with cleanliness, which others have mentioned. I would definitely like to stay here again...
It's more kind of a homestay! The owner is very nice person & very friendly! Hospitality was too good! Only thing which could be improved is the marshy smell in the room. This may be because the property is old. Shower in the room was too old. Location & surrounding is good, feels like a fair tale bungalow into woods!
This was our first stay with our two small dogs. The room was well cleaned and there was no problem. There are two baths, and you can enter when they are vacant, and you can make a reservation at night. Paid liquor, coffee, etc. were placed in the guest room passage. It is convenient because it is a quiet place a little from the street with restaurants and supermarkets in Nasu Town. It is a room without...
Appearance is good. That's why the regret inside is unavoidable. I think it would be better if I improved it based on the harsh reviews from other people, but it seems that the elderly owner is doing it alone, and he seems to have lost the meal plan due to his physical strength. There was dust and mold on the windows on the ground floor where everyone gathers. There are records and a DVD rental service...

It's very close to Kitashinagawa subway station, just at the back door, and there's a convenience store next to it. If you have enough money, don't book here.
I booked a double room, but Ctrip said it was for one adult only. In reality, it was a double dorm room, suitable for two people. This was a misleading information provided by the hotel on Ctrip. Therefore, it's best to contact the hotel to confirm your reservation. As compensation, they upgraded me to a single room for the first two days and a double dorm for the next two. Great price for such a room. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming, it was a pleasure to stay. It felt like visiting a hospitable family. A great option for an overnight stay. It's located in a great area!
Very satisfied. I thought it was shabby from the pictures, but it is actually acceptable.
It is a five-minute walk from Shinagawa subway station. The front desk service is warm and thoughtful, and the details are well done. From the service facilities in the store to the use of all items, they are explained very clearly. All service staff can speak English. They also patiently help plan travel routes. Coolest hostel I have ever stayed in Japan, the staff was so friendly and everyday was a vibe. I really enjoyed talking with the staff at night, also met some really cool solo travelers as well. The kitchen is super nice and spacious and the dinner is super cute.
The atmosphere was fantastic, and they even had a campfire BBQ at night. The hotel has a kitchen, so you can buy ingredients and cook for yourself, and there's a 7-Eleven and Lawson nearby, which is really convenient for grabbing things. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay, and I plan to recommend it to my friends.

It's an okay place to stay, but the room was quite small. The owner seemed alright.
it was a really nice stay, the location is convenient, it is 5 min walk from the station and some other tourist spots. The facilities are a bit old that the beds are making squeaky sounds and the air conditioner went from hot to cold and from cold to hot within seconds, hope they fix it.

Comfortable, friendly, traditional guesthouse in a beautiful location in Hakone. The hosts were very welcoming, and very helpful with local knowledge and directions (including beforehand by email!). A great place to stay to explore Hakone.
The owner here is extremely friendly and sociable, she will be able to talk to you all night if you want to. The one night we were there, other guests drew paintings together all night and also 2 of the guests made takoyaki and shared it with everyone else. No onsen unfortunately.
Lena-San is the best host. I had a traditional Tatami room, it was wonderful and very authentic. She provided me with all the information I needed and made a very good breakfast. The evening kitchen round with the other guests was very funny. I was really sorry to leave after just one night. Lena-San speaks very good English. 5/5 would book again!
Really great accomodation for the price. The owner and her mother were very friendly. The bed was so comfy! One of the best nights sleeps I’ve had in this sort of guest house/hostel environment. It's a good place, for the first time I managed to live in a traditional Japanese style, I liked everything, I advise everyone!
I originally thought that the Hakone Onsen Hotel was too expensive and the cost-effectiveness of traveling alone was not high, so I chose a youth hostel. Although he had an accent in English, it did not affect communication and understanding at all, and there was no communication difficulty...
Clean and sanitary, with hot spring facilities. The service was excellent Suitable for solo travel But the location is really bad There are only one or two buses passing by in an hour, otherwise you have to walk up the mountain for 10-15 minutes.

My two teenage girls loved staying here. Just to note, it is an uphill walk from the train station. There is a bus but it is not very frequent.

Highly recommend this Guest House. The couple who runs it speak excellent English. They are so friendly and helpful. Choose this place if you need to stay in Tokyo. Very close to a train station.

Excellent, exceeding expectations. The owner was very thoughtful; because of the inconvenient transportation, they would take you to town to buy things when they had time. Breakfast and dinner were also freshly made by hand and were very delicious.
A very nice family-run guesthouse, offering a taste of living in a Japanese country villa during the Showa era – well worth it! The breakfast was excellent and very palatable. The room had two air conditioners, which was sufficient for a winter stay. You could see the distant mountains as soon as you woke up. The owner was very kind and talked about his trip to China. Also, the bus stop is quite close...
The hosts were friendly. They let us leave our suitcase until check-in, and they even carried it to our room themselves. Breakfast is at 8:00 AM, dinner at 6:00 PM. Dinner was so filling, we barely made it 😅 We were there during peak season, late October, and to get to the lake, you have to take a bus from the train station. So, you have to go to the train station first, then take the right bus. There...
We enjoyed our stay at Gasthof Ami very much. The local scenery is spectacular and the location of Gasthof Ami is excellent for enjoying the surrounding area. We only used public transit or walking while visiting the area and that worked great. Downtown Nikko is a pleasant 1 hour walk. Or if you want the bus, the stop is a 5 or 10 minute walk from the hotel. Places such as Kegan Falls, Lake Chuzenji...
Warm and hospitable, quality stay with private ons A very friendly and hospitable older couple who take care and attention, make lovely dinner and breakfast, with a quaint and private place nestled in the corner of a quiet street. Plenty parking if you need. The 2 person onsen attached to the room is amazing, hot (with cold fountain) and easy to use. The pillows happen to be the most comfortable I...
We booked a local Japanese B&B on short notice. The decor was a bit dated, with a British style and an artificial hot spring facility. The owner was very welcoming and the breakfast was delicious. Overall, it exceeded our expectations.
