The place was just OK. My room smelled a little musty and the interiors were fading but I guess it's just an old establishment, and I wasn't expecting much going in considering the price. The exterior was also under renovation as of mid-November 2025 so I didn't have a view from my window.
The front staff made good attempt to communicate in English so I'm grateful. Be sure to order your dinner at least 1 day before, and buy snacks if needed from Nikko town because there are no groceries or konbinis there.

Very good Onsen and I recommend you to reserve meals at the hotel in advance.

Very nice hotel with nice shared onsens (both indoor and outdoor). Although not the most romantic, the onsens have good and clean water and they were not crowded when we went to them.
The hotel provides one-way shuttle bus to Nikko city at 9.30 every morning, and you can get back with public buses that take ~80 minutes and cost 2 k¥.
There was maybe some miscommunication about dinners, because we asked if the hotel cooks in the evening and we were told that it's not, but later we saw other guests eating their dinner in the hotel restaurant.
The breakfasts are great, Japanese-style. We could even make our omelette on a table-top stove. However, these more complicated processes needed explanation and the staff could not speak English on a level to actually explain them, so it was a bit confusing.
There is also a great nature trail around the lake nearby that goes to a beautiful waterfall (actually better than the more famous Ryuzu waterfall).
The internet connection works well and is unexpectedly fast for this hotel in the middle of nowhere.
There was a reconstruction of the hotel during our stay (scaffolding etc.), but the hotel did not inform us about this in advance. It would be better if we knew.

Very good thanks

The hotel is located in the mountains and is very quiet. Although the buildings and rooms are relatively old, the maintenance and cleanliness are up to standard. Their dinner and breakfast are especially delicious and unforgettable. Every waiter was very enthusiastic. It is more convenient to drive by yourself.

Nice Hotel located near Lake Yuniko. breakfast is a full Japanese and the rooms have an option of both western beds or sleeping on the Tatami mats in a Futon, Facilities are good and room was very tidy and clean . Made use of the Onsen which was very relaxing , being close to Lake Yuniko it was great to get out and walk with such beautiful nature nearby.

The hotel is quite outdated and requires renovation. However, the front desk staff and service are excellent. Given the price of the hotel, I expected more modern amenities and updates. It would be beneficial for the hotel to invest in improvements to enhance the overall guest experience. Consider kid-friendly option meals. Thank you for considering this feedback.

Superb Hotel to stay while enjoying the beautiful nature of Okunikko. My mate and I stayed for 5 days in total in a western style japanese room. We had plenty of space, everything we expected and more. The onsen was from a natural spring and not to crowded. Bus station was 4 minutes walk away. The breakfast and also the dinner were excellent as well as the service. Outstanding friendly service at the reception and very patient with using translator apps. Definite recommendation!

Live for the beautiful scenery, and a dip in the outdoor hot spring is a must

—-The room is very clean and has everything! There is even an automatic kettle and a bucket of ice. The only flaw is that the quilt cover looks old and a bit scary, but it's actually quite comfortable.
---The hot spring facilities are relatively old, and the pool is small, but it is very flavorful. It is what you would imagine an open-air hot spring to look like, with a milky white sulfur hot spring, a stone bottom, trees around it, and a real open air. I went in at around 6pm. Since it was dinner time, I was the only one in the entire pool.
——-I only had breakfast here, the Japanese breakfast was great! The menu for dinner has wagyu beef, it should be good too
——The service staff are all old men. It’s quite an old hotel and most Japanese people come to stay.
