Amazing. A pleasant, neat ryokan, very conveniently located. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding. We stayed in a traditional room and I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoyed sleeping on a futon. There's a private onsen, but we didn't get a chance to visit it. We recommend both Kinosaki and this ryokan :)

This was my first experience staying in a Japanese ryokan, and it was truly special. This time, my friends and I rented four rooms, located on the 3rd and 4th floors. Unfortunately, only one room faced the small river; the others overlooked an alley. Paying HKD 3,000 for a room with no view for one night felt quite expensive!

The food was decent, and the staff at the ryokan were very welcoming. However, when we went out to the public onsen, the staff there weren't as friendly.

Next time, I might try onsen in other areas. The hot springs here weren't as great as I imagined. Plus, it took over 3 hours to drive from Kyoto to Kinosaki, which is quite a long journey.

We had an unforgettable stay at Matsuya in Kinosaki. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The service was truly some of the best I’ve ever experienced—warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. A special shoutout to Cho, a new team member from Vietnam who is studying Japanese. She was incredibly kind and made our stay even more memorable.

Our room was spotless, beautifully appointed, and offered such a cool and authentic traditional Japanese experience. The kaiseki dinner was incredible—relaxing, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. We had an early train and couldn’t stay for breakfast, but based on dinner alone, I’m sure it would have been amazing.

At check-in, we were given yukatas and traditional sandals to wear around town, which made the whole visit even more special. The onsens were wonderfully relaxing, and the town itself was friendly, charming, and exactly what we hoped for.

I highly recommend staying at Matsuya if you want to experience the absolute best of Japanese hospitality, culture, and relaxation. Truly a highlight of our trip. We are a LGBTQ+ traveling couple and felt very welcomed.

Matsuya is very quiet and very "Japanese style" authentic hotel to stay! They operate the hotel very traditionally which is great for me - love to experience the indifference. And the meals are the superstar!!! You will never be disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food they provide! Big Big thumbs up to the chefs!!! And finally weird enough to say,the hot spring they have in the hotel is way better than the famous seven onsen people usually comes to the town to visit for! I super recommend people just go to experience hot spring in the hotel rather than bringing your belongings to try out those famous ones outside😆

Wonderful stay. Ideal and central location in Kinosakionsen. Great and authentic food, wonderful staff, and rooms large enough to accommodate us and our luggage. Highly recommend the Ryokan

对不是日本人完全不友善的酒店
Not foreigner ( Western & Asian) friendly. We travelled around 70 Roykan in the last 3 years and this is the wrost service we ever had. Japanese get to seat and offered juices when they checked in while we have to stand at the front desk and no juice offered. We asked for the yukata rental (free rental) and the young staff just ignore us twice. We asked for sizes a few times then he just said it’s all here. Then when we picking the only two small sizes he grabbed and give it to the Japanese girl and ignore us or never ask us before he took it as he knows we are looking into those. Very rude.

Most of ryokan will bring you to the room or assist to bring luggage or already put in the room for you. This one you do everything yourself after check in.

When we get into the hotel room it’s hot as no aircon is on. Then air con is broken so we called reception. With their broken English they insisted I don’t know how to turn on the aircon which I told them the air con is broken, after 15mins on the phone showing me how to on I keep telling them to send the staff up as we are so hot in the room as it’s summer and no window open and no fan was on after moving luggage. They came up and fix the air con for 45mins then told us it’s broken and need to change room. The whole hour we were sweating but no offer of water / drinks or anything and we just stand in the room while they fixing. When they decided the room need to be changed, they asked us to wait downstairs but leave the luggage in the room so we thought they will move luggage to the new room but they did not. Staff see us so hot at lobby didn’t tell us there is free drinking machine that we can get ice juices , they just watch us hot and sweat and not saying a word. When the new room is finished, they gave us the new room key and asked us to move the luggage ourself and return the old key. No help at all and wasted 1.5 hours of our onsen time. No apologies as well. I feel like being treated like a trash. Not enjoyable at all.
I paid extra for the sea view room which when they change my room they offered a slightly bigger room but my sea view was mostly blocked (in the pic )which I am not so happy.

There is amenities corner at the lobby, at night after the onsen we come back and want to take the lotion as early on it was gone and they didn’t replenish, the female staff have a bad attitude and flip her eyes ask us which room we stayed, we showed her the key and she said the cream is already in the room which her broken English. There is one set in the room but those are small one time pack which we finish after we had the onsen so we want to take another one. She was rude and insist we can’t take. Her attitude was so bad seems like we are stealing. There is an amenities cornor, if you not allowing guest to take please do not have this setup.

Food is okay with the buffet. Wagyu beef is nice but they is a normal standard for Japanese onsen buffet nothing too special.

Overall, with the price paying compare to other roykan in Japan, this hotel have very bad service to non Japanese. There is also nothing special for this onsen. Probably best to try somewhere else.

I will still give 5 for the great value for money compared to adjacent more expensive accommodation. Hope unsafe things there get improved.

Location: 8-10 minutes walk to the train station. Near Family Mart! In the heart of Kinosaki onsen touristy street.

Service: When I arrived around 4pm,there is no one to help me carry my heavy luggage up to the 3rd floor. There appears to be no elevator.

Room and Facility: Room has enough space. But the lavatory is so bad that the faucet can burn your skin in the winter. There should be some safety device. The stair steps are so small that wearing wooden slippers is a safety risk. You can litterally fall. Nevertheless, the private onsen is very good. It does not smell like chlorine. The woody scent is relaxing and memorable.

Welcome lounge and Breakfast: Warm and welcoming staff at the welcome lounge and breakfast. The freebies are limited as well as the time you can enjoy free but still delicious and well done. Beautiful cafe

Amenities: beautiful free rental tradional dress with a variety of options.

I still recommend.

I stayed here for two nights and had such a warm, friendly experience. The breakfast was great and they even accommodated my vegetarian needs. You have the option to rent bicycles at the same front desk you check in at which was also super convenient.

We stayed 2 nights half boards at Koyado Enn. This is beyond awesome experience in terms of location (very close to JR station), wonderful services with doable English communication + scrumptious breakfast and dinner. Oh forgot to mention its happy hour drink in the afternoon which we enjoyed after public onsens hopping; we had sparkling plum wine and hot/cold sake! Thank you, Koyado Enn!

The hotel staff was an absolute joy and helped me with any issues I had. Extremely welcoming and very nice. There was a trainee named Nguyen Thi Dung who helped me a lot and really made me feel welcome. The private baths were sublime and the food service was some of the best I have had personally. Definitely a wonderful place to stay at if you want to visit kinosaki onsen.
