Hotel Mount Shiga in Yamanouchi

Very large hotel with very few guests, felt a bit post-apocalyptic. On the plus side, meant always having the onsen to yourself! There are hotels closer to the ski slopes, but still only a 5 minute walk. Rooms were slightly outdated but enjoyed the traditional tatami mat and futon. Very spacious. Best part of our stay was the food! Multiple dishes including hot pot for both breakfast and dinner which were always delicious and satisfying. We were always looking forward to our next meal. We nearly didn't book dinner with our stay and were so glad we did because of the quality and variety of each meal. Dry room with locker for each room but no boot warmers.

Not a great selection of hire gear but there is a good rental shop close to the main gondolas.
Strangely there is a 7am wake up call for the entire building.

The food was delicious, the rooms were clean, and above all, it was a very good hotel where kind people served customers.

It’s a great hotel! The breakfast was very good, you can tell the owner pays a lot of attention on its quality. The hotel staff is nice and friendly. Although the hotel is a bit old, but it’s really good. I would recommend my friends to stay here.

Beautiful landscape and flowers

We stayed 6 nights and the price included a combined Japanese and Western style breakfast. Hygiene seemed to be a high priority. There was an unbelievable amount of variety in regards to the menu eg crab legs, shellfish, fish roe, salmon, bacon, miso, a variety of mushrooms and fermented foods and very fresh fruit and vegetables.
Our evening meals were stunning .We were so impressed we did not eat anywhere else during our stay. The staff were super friendly and all our needs were met. The ski field was just a short walk down the road. We will no doubt return.
