Toyoko Inn Hiroshima-Eki Shinkansen-Guchi No.2 in Hiroshima

We stayed at Toyoko Inn Hiroshima Station Shinkansenguchi 2 for six nights. Unfortunately, due to an error by our agent, we were assigned a smoking room. Despite the hotel having over 270+ rooms and us clearly explaining our sensitivity to smoke, the staff were unable to move us to a non-smoking room unless we changed rooms four separate times during our stay — which was disappointing and impractical.

We kept the windows open the entire stay and used the provided air freshener several times a day to manage the smell. However, keeping the windows open meant we had to deal with significant traffic noise at night, resulting in poor sleep quality.

The room itself was basic but satisfactory for our needs. The bed was extremely firm — almost no springs — but still comfortable enough. There was no in-room safe, which was inconvenient for storing valuables. Cleaning was only done every fourth day, although fresh towels and amenities were available daily upon request.

There was no in-room coffee or tea, but drinks were available in the reception area. The hotel also had vending machines, a free ice and water dispenser, and washing machines and dryers for a small fee, which was convenient.

Breakfast was very busy no matter what time we went and was entirely Japanese-style. It would have been very helpful, especially for guests with allergies, if items were labeled with their names or ingredients. The elevators were also consistently crowded, which added to the overall sense of busyness.

The location is a plus — less than 10 minutes from Hiroshima Shinkansen Station — but the staff were not particularly friendly or accommodating, which was a bit disappointing.

Overall, the hotel met basic needs, but the smoking room issue, noise, lack of an in-room safe, and limited flexibility made the stay less comfortable than expected.

My second only Japanese Hotel . A little bigger than the last one but the rooms are very well decorated and the furnishings are nice. It's quiet too. The beds are very hard and the pillow is too, so if you like a soft pillow beware. You may of course be able to change it at reception. I wouldn't want to spend a week here , I'd need a little more space. The free breakfast was poor though. I know I'm in Japan but I was led to believe it would be Western style. I only ate the bread rolls and coffee. Otherwise its alright. Close to the bus , rail and train centre , easy walking distance to the shops and restaurants .
