Hotel Kunugigaoka Otaru is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city, right by the sea. It's conveniently located, perfect for a snowy stroll. I enjoyed delicious 'chame' barbecue, visited the Music Box Antique Museum, and the Japanese Ukiyo-e Art Museum, among other places.

This is my second time staying here. The breakfast is fantastic, with a wide variety of options. Both the sea and mountain views are beautiful, and the rooms are quite spacious compared to other hotels in Otaru. It's just a shame there's no hot spring.

This is a very classic hotel. The lobby is brightly lit, and the front desk staff were very friendly and clearly explained the opening hours for the three entrances. They even specifically advised JR travelers which door to use. The room was spacious and very clean, and the mountain view from the window was absolutely stunning – a pleasant surprise!

The hotel's location is pretty average; it's a bit of a walk to all the attractions. Luckily, we chose to drive, but we ended up paying over 3000 yen for parking over two days, which stings a bit since other Japanese hotels usually offer free parking. The hotel's location is excellent, with rooms offering views of Mount Tengu and Otaru Station. They also provide a complimentary set menu dinner in the evenings. Funami-zaka Slope and the Sankaku Market are conveniently located just a short walk downstairs.

Great location, just opposite the JR station. It’s just 2 mins walk to Sankaku Market. About 10mins walk to canal. If you have luggage and do not wanna drag around especially during winter, this is a great option. Room size is small but quite standard in Japan. Onsen is good and has a pin to enter for female. Breakfast is pretty good.

Hotel location is convenience. It’s just opposite the Otaru JR station. Walking distance to most of the attractions. The breakfast buffet also provide wide variety of options, can customise our own sashimi bowl. But the breakfast location is not very big so need to go early to avoid congestion.

The hotel is quite dated. Can see that the decor, furniture etc are all probably seen decades of use. Regardless, the location was great - just outside the train station. I can leave my luggage immediately and go sightseeing. Breakfast too was great. The eggs were so good. Finally, there’s natural hot springs too that was amazing after a tiring day.

The hotel is a 10min walk from the train station so it was hard to get there in snowy and icy conditions. The room was small and comfortable but clean.

The location is great, but the hotel is a bit old and dusty in many areas. What's more, the hotel accommodation and the reception are in separate buildings, and so are the hot springs. It's three units across three buildings. To go to the hot springs, you have to get fully dressed and cross the road. After soaking, you can't just walk back to your room in your yukata; you have to put on heavy clothes...

This hotel is incredibly convenient and super clean! My kids loved the bathtub. I always wipe down the tub with an alcohol wipe as soon as I get into a room, and I was genuinely shocked by how clean the wipe stayed – spotless! This hotel is super conveniently located right across from the Otaru Canal and just a few hundred meters walk from Otaru Station. You can walk to all the nearby attractions, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes around. The breakfast spread is also very generous. The room was a normal size and very close to the canal, within walking distance of all the attractions. The service was excellent; we arrived in the morning before check-in, and they stored our luggage for free. By the time we checked in later that afternoon, our bags were already in the room. Overall, it was great, and I'd book this place again if I ever go back to Otaru.

The hotel is about a 15-minute drive from JR Otaru Station. You can pre-book a shuttle service, which runs from 3 PM to 7 PM in the afternoon, and there are also morning shuttles available. They helped with my luggage upon arrival, and provided a check-in service. They speak fluent English. I booked a room with a private onsen (hot spring bath), which overlooked the canal – the view was amazing! There was also a massage chair. The place is nice and well located near the Main Street and a couple blocks away from the station but the internet connection is not good at all, I stayed on the second floor and there was no internet I needed to get connected to the 3rd floor wifi and it was super bad quality.

The environment here is pretty good, and the location is excellent and easy to find. The front desk lady had a great service attitude. This was my first time staying in a youth hostel, and I actually quite liked it. The rooms are basic with no other facilities, just for sleeping. There's a common lounge where you can drink water and eat snacks.

It was exceptionally clean, and the location was great too. However, they don't provide disposable toothbrushes or bath towels, and there are no slippers. You have to pay extra for all of these, but otherwise, everything else was fine.

The traditional Japanese breakfast prepared by the host is superb. The place is very clean and tidy. The free covered car park is perfect so no need to remove the snow before driving. Just the WiFi is too weak.

Please upload updated photos of the renovations! The breakfast was clean and prepared with care, but the communal hot spring on the first floor is too small, barely fitting more than two people. You have to wait in line. I was really disappointed, especially after seeing the pictures and expecting a traditional ryokan.

The location is fantastic. It feels like it's right in the middle of Otaru Station, Otaru Canal, and Otaru city center. The facilities are incredibly clean, and the owner is exceptionally kind. The B&B's location is pretty good and convenient, with a convenience store right outside. The interior is beautiful and thoughtfully detailed. The front desk service was just okay, nothing special. The room itself was clean and tidy, but when we turned on the heater, there was a strong, persistent kerosene smell that was really unpleasant.

We stayed here for several days when visiting Sapporo and otaru. The staff was great and the room service is well priced and yummy. The tub had lights and jets and a little TV. The karaoke was a nice touch and the room was always super clean. We loved that it was right next to the ocean.
