Hotel Kunugigaoka Otaru is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city, right by the sea. It's conveniently located, perfect for a snowy stroll. I enjoyed delicious 'chame' barbecue, visited the Music Box Antique Museum, and the Japanese Ukiyo-e Art Museum, among other places.

This is my second time staying here. The breakfast is fantastic, with a wide variety of options. Both the sea and mountain views are beautiful, and the rooms are quite spacious compared to other hotels in Otaru. It's just a shame there's no hot spring.

This is a very classic hotel. The lobby is brightly lit, and the front desk staff were very friendly and clearly explained the opening hours for the three entrances. They even specifically advised JR travelers which door to use. The room was spacious and very clean, and the mountain view from the window was absolutely stunning – a pleasant surprise!

The hotel's location is pretty average; it's a bit of a walk to all the attractions. Luckily, we chose to drive, but we ended up paying over 3000 yen for parking over two days, which stings a bit since other Japanese hotels usually offer free parking. The hotel's location is excellent, with rooms offering views of Mount Tengu and Otaru Station. They also provide a complimentary set menu dinner in the evenings. Funami-zaka Slope and the Sankaku Market are conveniently located just a short walk downstairs.

Right outside Otaru Station, this hotel has an excellent location. Across the street, you'll find a Don Quijote and a supermarket, and there's a LeTAO shop on the ground floor. Great location, just opposite the JR station. It’s just 2 mins walk to Sankaku Market. About 10mins walk to canal. If you have luggage and do not wanna drag around especially during winter, this is a great option. Room size is small but quite standard in Japan. Onsen is good and has a pin to enter for female. Breakfast is pretty good.

Hotel location is convenience. It’s just opposite the Otaru JR station. Walking distance to most of the attractions. The breakfast buffet also provide wide variety of options, can customise our own sashimi bowl. But the breakfast location is not very big so need to go early to avoid congestion.

The hotel is quite dated. Can see that the decor, furniture etc are all probably seen decades of use. Regardless, the location was great - just outside the train station. I can leave my luggage immediately and go sightseeing. Breakfast too was great. The eggs were so good. Finally, there’s natural hot springs too that was amazing after a tiring day.

The hotel is a 10min walk from the train station so it was hard to get there in snowy and icy conditions. The room was small and comfortable but clean.

The location is great, but the hotel is a bit old and dusty in many areas. What's more, the hotel accommodation and the reception are in separate buildings, and so are the hot springs. It's three units across three buildings. To go to the hot springs, you have to get fully dressed and cross the road. After soaking, you can't just walk back to your room in your yukata; you have to put on heavy clothes...

The hotel is right by the Otaru Canal, and you can see the canal from your room. It also has its own hot spring, and the toiletries are from Pola. The Japanese-style breakfast has pretty much everything you'd expect, though the room itself is a bit small.

The room was a normal size and very close to the canal, within walking distance of all the attractions. The service was excellent; we arrived in the morning before check-in, and they stored our luggage for free. By the time we checked in later that afternoon, our bags were already in the room. The space is quite spacious and very clean. The location is super convenient, right by the subway station – just walk straight out and you can't miss it. I'd definitely choose to stay here again next time. I originally wanted to book for five nights, but they were fully booked for two of those nights, so I only got to stay for one. This hotel is super conveniently located right across from the Otaru Canal and just a few hundred meters walk from Otaru Station. You can walk to all the nearby attractions, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes around. The breakfast spread is also very generous. Please upload updated photos of the renovations! The breakfast was clean and prepared with care, but the communal hot spring on the first floor is too small, barely fitting more than two people. You have to wait in line. I was really disappointed, especially after seeing the pictures and expecting a traditional ryokan.

Everything about this hotel was satisfactory, except for one very important thing: the soundproofing is terrible. I could clearly hear the person next door snoring and talking, which is something I absolutely cannot tolerate. You really need to be careful when choosing a hotel. I only got five hours of sleep here.

They helped with my luggage upon arrival, and provided a check-in service. They speak fluent English. I booked a room with a private onsen (hot spring bath), which overlooked the canal – the view was amazing! There was also a massage chair. The complimentary wagashi (Japanese sweets) were delicious, and the mini-fridge was stocked with free drinks. Dinner was also quite good.

The place is nice and well located near the Main Street and a couple blocks away from the station but the internet connection is not good at all, I stayed on the second floor and there was no internet I needed to get connected to the 3rd floor wifi and it was super bad quality.

The staff was friendly, the place is very cozy that I really wanted to extend my stay over there, even with shared bathroom for some rooms and the public kitchen everything is quite clean and well maintained.

You will feel comfy and relaxed, like sitting and slaying at your home. We're 4 pax and stayed 1 night, but feel hommy and humble in everything here. Our room can fit 4-6 pax. Pls enjoy here if you love English country style!!

The B&B's location is pretty good and convenient, with a convenience store right outside. The interior is beautiful and thoughtfully detailed. The front desk service was just okay, nothing special. The room itself was clean and tidy, but when we turned on the heater, there was a strong, persistent kerosene smell that was really unpleasant.

I had an amazing time at this hotel. You will need to take 15 minutes taxi ride to reach here from Otaru station. It's right by the beach. Room is super spacious and comforting. There's kitchen and dining area. It was snowing so the balcony is filled with snow but the view is just so amazing. The staffs are very helpful. You can check in early with a small fee. Their Wi-Fi worked for maybe 5 minutes, and was extremely slow. I had to buy data from my phone and hotspot it to work, costing me much more money. I was so frustrated because this is so basic and they couldn't get that right. The workers were great but I'm still never coming back.

Very good, nice people, great view, nice room! It is recommended to book two nights to relax! The most amazing thing is opening the balcony door! From that moment on, you feel that taking a taxi is really worth it.

The staff was really nice! I was grateful that they were able to accommodate my late check-in! However, there were stink bugs in the room... They have duct tape so if you find any, please wrap them up and throw them away, the front desk told me, and I thought there couldn't be any, but there were two... I heard a buzzing sound coming from the curtains in the morning, so there might have been more....

For better or worse, the staff is hardly involved. It's quite comfortable if you're just staying overnight.

If you're just staying overnight It can't be helped since the building is old, but the walls inside the room seem thin, so you could hear the snoring of the guests in the next room. The sound when you flushed the toilet was surprisingly loud, and the trickling sound continued for hours until the tank was filled, so there were many things that were bothersome. We really enjoyed the view from our room which faced the rear of the hotel. There is a mountain view and the sound of a stream that runs behind the hotel was very relaxing! The staff was kind and very accommodating.

It was cheap and easy, and everyone at the hotel was kind. There was a time limit written on the reception, but I had no problem returning late at night, so I was able to spend two nights freely. The hot spring bath is located opposite so you have to go outside to use it, but it's only an additional 500 yen so it was fine.

This is the best backpacker hostel I have ever been so far. Simply put, it feels like behind at home rather than in a hostel. I just loved that place! I wish I could have stayed longer.
