Otaru, Chikko 11-3 (2 km from centre) 🧭 Map
Hotel Kunugigaoka Otaru is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city, right by the sea. It's conveniently located, perfect for a snowy stroll. I enjoyed delicious 'chame' barbecue, visited the Music Box Antique Museum, and the Japanese Ukiyo-e Art Museum, among other places.
This is my second time staying here. The breakfast is fantastic, with a wide variety of options. Both the sea and mountain views are beautiful, and the rooms are quite spacious compared to other hotels in Otaru. It's just a shame there's no hot spring.
This is a very classic hotel. The lobby is brightly lit, and the front desk staff were very friendly and clearly explained the opening hours for the three entrances. They even specifically advised JR travelers which door to use. The room was spacious and very clean, and the mountain view from the window was absolutely stunning – a pleasant surprise!
The hotel's location is pretty average; it's a bit of a walk to all the attractions. Luckily, we chose to drive, but we ended up paying over 3000 yen for parking over two days, which stings a bit since other Japanese hotels usually offer free parking. Plus, the hotel facilities are generally old, and the room lighting is super dim. If that bothers you, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. On the bright...
The hotel environment is fantastic and the rooms are huge! The windows are also really big. The staff are very friendly, and the buffet is delicious! Plus, the hotel is directly connected to a mall on the first floor, which makes shopping and dining incredibly convenient!
Great basement parking, easily accessible and protected from the snowfall. The interconnecting room was huge and totally worth it for a family of 2A 2C. The hotel was connected to a shopping mall so there was plenty of food choices, shopping, supermarket and even cinema for movie needs. There’s a teppanyaki restaurant Cocoro Grand Park Otaru which serves amazing teppanyaki wagyu and crab and was totally...

The hotel's location is excellent, with rooms offering views of Mount Tengu and Otaru Station. They also provide a complimentary set menu dinner in the evenings. Funami-zaka Slope and the Sankaku Market are conveniently located just a short walk downstairs.
Right outside Otaru Station, this hotel has an excellent location. Across the street, you'll find a Don Quijote and a supermarket, and there's a LeTAO shop on the ground floor. The hotel itself is a bit old, but the facilities seem to have been renovated and have a very distinct Japanese style. They have a hot spring you can use daily, free Yakult in the mornings, and even complimentary ramen after...
Great location, just opposite the JR station. It’s just 2 mins walk to Sankaku Market. About 10mins walk to canal. If you have luggage and do not wanna drag around especially during winter, this is a great option. Room size is small but quite standard in Japan. Onsen is good and has a pin to enter for female. Breakfast is pretty good.
Hotel location is convenience. It’s just opposite the Otaru JR station. Walking distance to most of the attractions. The breakfast buffet also provide wide variety of options, can customise our own sashimi bowl. But the breakfast location is not very big so need to go early to avoid congestion.
The hotel is quite dated. Can see that the decor, furniture etc are all probably seen decades of use. Regardless, the location was great - just outside the train station. I can leave my luggage immediately and go sightseeing. Breakfast too was great. The eggs were so good. Finally, there’s natural hot springs too that was amazing after a tiring day.
Nice breakfast, the location is perfect, right in front of Otaru station but the room is old

Conveniently located within a 10-minute walk to Otaru Station and the canal. There's also a direct bus to Mount Tengu right outside the hotel. The hotel has a bit of a vintage feel, and the rooms are quite old-fashioned in style. The window view from the top floor restaurant is truly beautiful. The 11th floor offers a Western-style breakfast, while the 3rd floor has Japanese set meals, so you can choose...
Lobby and rooms are really spacious and clean. Toiletries were mostly provided, water pressure and heating is good. Hospitality was great as well. Located only less then 10mins away from Otaru Stn and accessible to otaru canal. Convenience store just right outside the hotel.
Authant hotel is a very classic n posh hotel in Otaru. Only 8 mins walk from otaru station. Room is spacious, clean n amenities provided are top class. Also Onsen is really nice. Highly recommended if anyone plan to visit Ptaru and stay for a night or 2
The hotel is a 10min walk from the train station so it was hard to get there in snowy and icy conditions. The room was small and comfortable but clean.
Very close to Otaru Canal and Otaru Station, with plenty of food options nearby. It's also incredibly close to Tenguyama Ropeway Station! Everything was super convenient. The breakfast buffet was excellent too. A fantastic stay overall!
The hotel is a bit old but well-maintained. The Western breakfast was just okay and not really worth the price. The staff, however, were excellent – very friendly and proactive in opening doors and helping with luggage. The back entrance only has stairs, which was a real pain with all the luggage.

Otaru, 3 Chome-5-14 Inaho (in the centre) 🧭 Map
Firstly, the service was great, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. However, the hotel booking platform I used stated the room size was 32 square meters. I didn't pay close attention to the room name when I booked, assuming it was a private hotel room. Upon arrival, I found out it was more like a small hostel-style room, and the entrance only had a curtain for privacy, which felt very...
Following the navigation on Ctrip leads to the correct building, but Google Maps directs you to the annex, which is a five to six-minute walk away. The annex doesn't have a front desk; check-in is done via self-service machines. In the main building, Indian staff are available to assist with machine check-in. The hotel is conveniently located, just a three to five-minute walk from JR Station and Otaru...
The main building for check-in is really close to JR station. Just exit, go straight, turn left after you see Lawson, and then another left at the intersection. It's about 400 meters. The hotel is spread out in several areas. After check-in, the staff told us our villa was another 10-minute walk away. Luckily, there's a shuttle service both ways. It meant we were quite a distance from the onsen, but...
There's a delicious soup curry restaurant right downstairs in the main building, but if your room happens to be directly above the kitchen, it can get quite smelly. The location is very convenient for transportation, being close to the JR station.
Everything is perfect for that price. Lovely staff that I've known for ten years now. Arigato gozaimasu.🙏🏼
The location is great, but the hotel is a bit old and dusty in many areas. What's more, the hotel accommodation and the reception are in separate buildings, and so are the hot springs. It's three units across three buildings. To go to the hot springs, you have to get fully dressed and cross the road. After soaking, you can't just walk back to your room in your yukata; you have to put on heavy clothes...

Good location! Friendly concierge and front desk. Nice view from the room, directly facing to otaru canal. Across the road you can reach one of the famous LETAO shop.
Very good hotel! service and facilities are really comfortable to me .
The hotel is right by the Otaru Canal, and you can see the canal from your room. It also has its own hot spring, and the toiletries are from Pola. The Japanese-style breakfast has pretty much everything you'd expect, though the room itself is a bit small.
Right infront of the otaru canal one of the best hotel i have stayed in hokkaido so far, room is spacious and comfortable highly recommended
The hotel is in a good Location near the chanel. Very nice beer brewery with a big variety of beer is just across the Chanel . Fish market and train station in 10 minutes by steps. It’s a wow wow wow!!! Close to ski resort. Great breakfast and shuttle service back to Otaru town.
No elevator at my room. Need to manual lift luggage to basement floor. Dinner and breakfast are normal.

The space is quite spacious and very clean. The location is super convenient, right by the subway station – just walk straight out and you can't miss it. I'd definitely choose to stay here again next time. I originally wanted to book for five nights, but they were fully booked for two of those nights, so I only got to stay for one. I'll definitely come back to this place on my next visit. It was excellent
This was a good experience, with a canal view from the room. The room was spacious and comfortable, but the bathroom was a bit old. The staff were also helpful. However, parking here is subject to a fee.
This hotel is incredibly convenient and super clean! My kids loved the bathtub. I always wipe down the tub with an alcohol wipe as soon as I get into a room, and I was genuinely shocked by how clean the wipe stayed – spotless! This time, I got up early to try the hotel breakfast, and just as the reviews raved, it was excellent. Their soup curry!!!! You absolutely HAVE to eat that first!!! Otherwise...
This hotel is super conveniently located right across from the Otaru Canal and just a few hundred meters walk from Otaru Station. You can walk to all the nearby attractions, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes around. The breakfast spread is also very generous. Although the facilities are a bit dated, the room itself is spacious and very clean.
Hotel Nord Otaru is just next to Otaru Canal, very convenient location. Especially wanted to choose this lovely hotel which I stayed 10 years ago in year 2015 with my family of 5 person. First of all, would like to give a big thumbs-up to the staffs at the front desk 🥹 I think one of them is their manager or leader too. Clean and big room, friendly staff, good location too. It’s just a few mins walk to the canal river...
The room was a normal size and very close to the canal, within walking distance of all the attractions. The service was excellent; we arrived in the morning before check-in, and they stored our luggage for free. By the time we checked in later that afternoon, our bags were already in the room. Overall, it was great, and I'd book this place again if I ever go back to Otaru.
Counter staff extremely friendly and patient with our booking. Easy to move around city area. Nice place to visit. Staff recommended best sushi in town.
Booked room with breakfast. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is so good and you have to select a time slot to avoid over crowded in the restaurant. Location of the hotel is far from JR Station. If there is a heavy snow fall it will be quite challenging to bring your luggage to the station. Overall, location of hotel is near to the Canal and restaurant.
Overall, the hotel's design is quite good. The exterior and some decorations incorporate the distinctive red brick architecture of Otaru, giving it a strong local character, which is definitely a highlight. The location is also decent, about a 10-minute walk from the station, which isn't too far even with luggage, and it's right next to the canal. The staff's service attitude was excellent; they were...
Pros: The price is quite reasonable, over 700 for a night with three beds. You can grab toothbrushes and toothpaste from a small table next to the front desk. Great location, nestled halfway up the mountain with beautiful views. The hotel service is excellent, offering pickup and drop-off at Otaru Station. The room also has a hot spring bath.
The private bath in the room is definitely the highlight of the room. Plus the front desk even offered to change our room with a better view of the sea! Love it!

The shuttle service provided by the hotel was very convenient, we made good use of it everyday. The room was spacious and nicely furnished. Having a private bath was definitely a plus. Breakfast was excellent.

This was my third time staying here. The staff's service was excellent, making my stay very pleasant. I'd love to visit again.
They helped with my luggage upon arrival, and provided a check-in service. They speak fluent English. I booked a room with a private onsen (hot spring bath), which overlooked the canal – the view was amazing! There was also a massage chair. The complimentary wagashi (Japanese sweets) were delicious, and the mini-fridge was stocked with free drinks. Dinner was also quite good.
This hotel is excellent in every aspect. The staff are incredibly friendly and, despite limited English, they make a genuine effort to communicate. The environment here is pretty good, and the location is excellent and easy to find. The front desk lady had a great service attitude. This was my first time staying in a youth hostel, and I actually quite liked it. The rooms are basic with no other facilities, just for sleeping. There's a common lounge where you can drink water and eat snacks.

The traditional Japanese breakfast prepared by the host is superb. The place is very clean and tidy. The free covered car park is perfect so no need to remove the snow before driving. Just the WiFi is too weak.
One of the best authentic japanese bed & breakfast experience. Owners live on site, facility is extremely clean. Not the fancy modern decor, but you have everything you need here! Reminds me of St.Regis
Please upload updated photos of the renovations! The breakfast was clean and prepared with care, but the communal hot spring on the first floor is too small, barely fitting more than two people. You have to wait in line. I was really disappointed, especially after seeing the pictures and expecting a traditional ryokan.

Good location, near the train station. Also, very traditional and very hospitable. I enjoyed their amenities, especially the bathtub, and it is somewhere I will definitely stay again if when I go to Sapporo! Also, easy to get to, and very understanding hosts!
The location is fantastic. It feels like it's right in the middle of Otaru Station, Otaru Canal, and Otaru city center. The facilities are incredibly clean, and the owner is exceptionally kind. I stayed in a room with two bunk beds. Each bed had a TV, and the children were delighted with the structure like a private room. I think it is good for families who can stay without meals. The location of the automatic checkout machine is next to the bread shop on the first floor. I bought the salt bread from this bakery and it was very delicious.

Good, clean, affordable, and quite comfortable.
The B&B's location is pretty good and convenient, with a convenience store right outside. The interior is beautiful and thoughtfully detailed. The front desk service was just okay, nothing special. The room itself was clean and tidy, but when we turned on the heater, there was a strong, persistent kerosene smell that was really unpleasant.
Everything was good except location is a little troublesome to get to especially during winter where you need to drag ur luggage across snow uphill
Quaint hostel that was renovated from an old building. Service is impeccable and the rooms are clean. The flooring can be squeaky when stepped on but that's part of the charm of residing in it.
