Hotel Torifito Otaru Canal in Otaru

First of all, would like to give a big thumbs-up to the staffs at the front desk 🥹 I think one of them is their manager or leader too. They are so so helpful when we encountered some issues with the parking machine even the parking lot is not under this hotel.

And for the hotel, everything is good too.
Clean and big room, friendly staff, good location too. It’s just a few mins walk to the canal river.

The only advice is that, you may find nearby parking lot to park your car (cheaper) 🚗

The room was a normal size and very close to the canal, within walking distance of all the attractions. The service was excellent; we arrived in the morning before check-in, and they stored our luggage for free. By the time we checked in later that afternoon, our bags were already in the room. Overall, it was great, and I'd book this place again if I ever go back to Otaru.

Counter staff extremely friendly and patient with our booking. Easy to move around city area. Nice place to visit. Staff recommended best sushi in town.

Booked room with breakfast. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is so good and you have to select a time slot to avoid over crowded in the restaurant. Location of the hotel is far from JR Station. If there is a heavy snow fall it will be quite challenging to bring your luggage to the station. Overall, location of hotel is near to the Canal and restaurant.

Overall, the hotel's design is quite good. The exterior and some decorations incorporate the distinctive red brick architecture of Otaru, giving it a strong local character, which is definitely a highlight. The location is also decent, about a 10-minute walk from the station, which isn't too far even with luggage, and it's right next to the canal. The staff's service attitude was excellent; they were generally enthusiastic and willing to offer help proactively, which left a good impression.

However, the hotel's hardware facilities are relatively average, a bit of a letdown compared to the appealing exterior design. The sofas in the lobby lounge area were visibly damaged and looked old, indicating mediocre maintenance. The room layout was also quite compact, feeling a bit cramped when in use, with not much space left after putting down luggage. Additionally, there were damaged areas on the wallpaper inside the room, showing a lack of attention to detail in maintenance. During my stay, the air purifier also leaked, which affected the user experience.

As for breakfast, the variety and taste were quite ordinary, without much distinctiveness. It felt pretty standard overall, but the price was relatively high, offering only average value for money.

Pros: The price is quite reasonable, over 700 for a night with three beds. You can grab toothbrushes and toothpaste from a small table next to the front desk. There's a convenience store right next to the hotel, which is handy for buying things. Although the breakfast area is small, the breakfast itself is actually pretty good, and the restaurant staff are quite friendly. They also write little tips on a blackboard in the lobby.

Cons: The room hygiene needs improvement; only a superficial cleaning was done. When we pushed the two beds together, there were quite a lot of crumbs underneath.

Another issue was the front desk service. We booked four rooms with friends. We chose the 7 PM slot for dinner first, but then when the other three rooms tried to book the 7 PM slot, they were told it was full. However, when we had breakfast the next day, the restaurant was only about 40% occupied.

This hotel is pretty good and quite new. There's a hot spring bath on the first floor. What's convenient is that the bus stop for Mt. Tengu and New Chitose Airport is just about 50 meters from the hotel entrance. The breakfast was decent, and there's a supermarket nearby. The canal isn't too far, but it's a bit of a walk from Otaru Station, taking over ten minutes. My only complaint is that it snowed during my two-day stay, and the hotel didn't provide umbrellas, whereas the hotel I stayed at in Sapporo offered them right at the entrance, which was very handy.

Good location easily accessible from JR station by foot and very near to the canal and main shopping street too.  Nice room and very comfortable bed, public bath is a plus point. Bus stop is just outside hotel for airport, JR station or Tengu ropeway station, super convenient.

The hotel is quite a distance from Otaru, which was a bit of a trek with luggage in the snowy winter. It's close to the canal, though. The room was small; we could just about fit two 28-inch suitcases in the aisle. The downstairs onsen hot spring was tiny and not really worth using. I specifically requested not to be given the last room when booking, but that's exactly what I got upon arrival, which really put a damper on my trip. This was very disappointing. Ctrip couldn't do anything about it either, only offering compensation points.
