Everything was super nice! Clean, safe, kind and calm.
Clean, the dormitory of 4 was connected to the private bathroom and shower. Easily, by far, the best experience in Japan of 3 hostels. And the best part is the staff members, everyone has been so welcoming and showed kindness. Totally recommend! Also the Japanese breakfast was very very good.
people were nice and i took one beautiful picture ^_^
Super cozy the owner is amazing
The inn is clean and comfortable, with convenient transportation. They offer free breakfast and fruit. It's very close to Kiyomizu-dera Temple and the National Museum. The owner is super nice, and I'd definitely come back if I have the chance!
Free breakfast was enough, including a lot of fruits and bread and yogurt and coffee and milk and so on.
The room, Seiran, overlooked a Japanese garden, creating a wonderful atmosphere. Those who appreciate traditional Japanese houses will find this a truly satisfying experience. Breakfast, enjoyed amidst the beautiful garden views, was a perfect way to start the day. The hostess was incredibly kind and attentive; I'll definitely bring friends back next time.
The small town of Otsu is a place I really love. It's quiet, not crowded with tourists, and right next to Lake Biwa.
The tea room in the common area is beautiful, with a small garden, and the public bathroom is very clean. The only downside is that the all-wooden townhouses have almost no sound insulation, so I wouldn't recommend it for those who have trouble sleeping.
Inase is a really amazing and beautiful place. If you're looking for peace after spending time in Kyoto or other big cities, it's the best place to get a rest. Staff is very polite and friendly, breakfast is delicious, and the garden inside is beautiful.
We had some troubles with the luggage, but they helped us to deal with it, so grateful for that.
This place is 10/10. Don't hesitate and just book...
Clean, friendly, comfort and convenient location!
This is a Japanese-style B&B with a great atmosphere.
It is said that it was a granary a hundred years ago and was later converted into a B&B.
The floor makes a creaking sound when you step on it.
I had a fantasy in my mind about whether the black coal balls described by Hayao Miyazaki would appear in the same way.
I walked around barefoot, without a speck of dust. Very clean and tidy
The homestay has done a great job in every detail. There are two places that left a particularly deep impression on me. The first picture is a hot water bottle stuffed into the bed. In fact, the air conditioner was set to over 20 degrees in advance, which was already very warm. Sometimes, a little bit of excessive service can really touch people's hearts. The fourth picture shows the organic lemons...

The staff were friendly, spoke fluent English, and check-in was quick. The room was fully equipped, the washing machine even had laundry beads, and the bathroom had a dryer and plenty of clothespins – very thoughtful touches. Staying here for a marathon was very convenient, as it's close to the finish line and registration venue.
The room size is amazing for the price! Love the water pressure and small but great to have balcony. The beds were also very comfortable.
Perfect, basically own spacious apartment with hotel service. We stayed for 5 nights, 3 day clean up. You can always for extra amenities, Superb location.
This was one of our favorite stays in Japan. Our room was clean, organized and a great size! The beds were super comfy and we had great sleeps. The area is quiet and is close to a quaint river. We used their luggage delivery service as we arrived in Kyoto before check in. Their office is about a 5 minute walk from Kyoto station, and you can drop your luggage off and they will deliver it to your hotel...
Lovely hotel with a good location. Loved the size of the room and having a washer dryer in the room was AWESOME 🔥🔥🔥
The location is truly excellent — the metro is just 1 minute away, several bus lines are nearby, and it’s easy to walk to most central attractions.
The room itself was spacious, though the furniture felt a bit dated. The washing machine was very handy during our 11-day stay, and the air conditioning worked well. The kitchen, however, was only minimally stocked.
A real highlight was the Customer Service...

It's very clean. The staff is very respectful, helpful and hard-working. I really enjoyed my stay.
I stayed in a four-person room. The mattress and quilt were very comfortable. My roommates were both German and Japanese. They were all very quiet and polite.
A very clean traditional Japanese hotel. It was a good opportunity for me to experience Japanese home life. The boss was also very nice. It was raining in Kyoto and I checked out. She also gave me an umbrella. I would recommend everyone to stay...
This is a dormitory-style guesthouse next to Kyoto University, not a youth hostel, which is also its charm in my opinion. Living here requires consideration for others and certain climbing skills. In short, whether the accommodation is good or not depends mainly on the roommate, which is a matter of luck and probability. The store itself has done its best.
Clean and nice hostel in a quiet area. A bit far from the center, but there is a metro station nearby. Also nearby is a supermarket. I liked the room for 4 guests and the spacious common area. Showers and toilets are in good condition.
The futons, shared spaces, and bathrooms were clean, the room was warm, and there were plenty of handy things like tissues and hairdryers, so I had a comfortable stay.
As a dormitory, it was perfect and I slept soundly.
The owner and staff were kind and reassuring. I'd like to use this hostel again if I have business at Kyoto University.
The cleanest hotel I've ever seen! So quiet and nice. Blankets are super comfortable, very soft and warm. Want to have the same to home. Be warned that it is impossible to get into hotel after midnight
Kyoto, Kitashirakawa-kami-betto-cho 5 (60 min from centre) 🧭 Map
The facility is generally older. There are no train stations nearby, so if you have a suitcase, you'll have to use the bus or taxi. There is no elevator, only stairs.
I stayed here for the first night of my Kyoto Trail.
It appears the building was originally a studio apartment. I booked a room with a shared shower, but when a cancellation occurred, they changed my reservation to a room with a unit bath, and they were very accommodating.
All I needed was a room with enough space to sleep comfortably, so this was sufficient.
There's a convenience store (Family Mart...
It's important to check check-in times or contact the property directly, as arriving late might make it difficult to get settled. Very clean and welcoming. Something to consider if you don't like shared bathrooms.
I stayed before National Day and contacted the front desk to extend my stay for two more nights, totaling five nights.
Advantages: Cheap. While other places might require shared accommodation, this place offered a single room for even less. The single room was also quite spacious, easily accommodating two beds and two suitcases. Location is good; it's a suitable place to stay before exams/enrollment...
Attentive and personalized service ensures a safe and secure travel experience.
The room is more Japanese-style, but it has a strong smell. I had to open the window for an entire afternoon before the smell subsided. The quilt and other items are not of very good quality. Although there are no visible stains, it is still very worrying about hygiene issues. The stairs are very steep and you have to be careful. You must wear the slippers provided by the hotel to enter the bedroom...
Kyoto, 26 Shishigatani Hounenin Nishimachi (45 min from centre) 🧭 Map
This hostel is conveniently located near Kyoto University. The hosts were kind and it was a comfortable place to live.
There are no washing machines, but there are several within a 15-minute walk, so that was fine.
It's also close to the Philosopher's Path, so I took a short walk there every morning before going to work!
I didn't stay because of schedule changes. But since there is no refund plan, even if it was confirmed two weeks ago that I couldn't stay, the room would have to be left empty. I knew this before I made the reservation, so I accepted it. I just really think it's a pity for me, potential guests, and the landlord. If there is a partial refund plan based on the decreasing time, it may be the best.
This is a very nice and clean accommodation! I stayed just one person for 3 nights. Owner is friendly, helpful, and kind! Close to major bus routes. Shower and bathroom were clean and easily accessible. Great guest house, i enjoyed my stay!
This was my second stay in one year and I chose it because of its proximity to The Philosophers Walk as well as being located in a residential community, though quite close to a major temple as well as quieter and lovely ones. There are only 4 rooms; this is a typical lodging house - shared bath and kitchen. Proprietor Nakamoto is very helpful !!!
Overall, this property was nice. It's a more authentic Japanese experience, not much amenities in the room. You sleep on the floor on futons.
Good location. Stairs are steep. There is a bathtub.

really friendly and helped with public transport told us about landmarks/sights to visit.
Cozy house and it has everything a travel might need! Friendly and welcoming staff. The staff also gave us useful information on how to go to each of the attractions and which would be better to go.
Kyoto, 583-2 Kojima-cho, Higashiyama-ku (45 min from centre) 🧭 Map
Great location, close to attractions, Kyoto JR Station, and Takashimaya. The room isn't small either. The only minor issue is that the front desk staff also handle cleaning, so sometimes it's hard to find someone at the reception.
The best hotel in our trip! Room size is decent, Best Japanese bathroom, and a kitchen!
This is 2-3 times more worth from the price. Stay for 2 nights and we love the hotel so much.
Walking distance to Kiyomizu area, enjoying morning and night walk for less crowd. Far from train stations, located between 2 bus stations.
Everything was pretty good. The heater took a little while to warm up but once it did, it was very cozy. There's a small balcony, and amenities like a washing machine and kitchen, complete with laundry detergent pods and dish soap.
The luggage delivery service was excellent. The service center is near Kyoto Station, and if you drop off your luggage before 4 PM, they'll deliver it to your hotel room...
I arrived at the hotel about 2-3 hours before check-in but my room was ready so they let me check in early. Nice and clean, i loved having a tub, I took a bath every night. Had no trouble otherwise, I was mainly out during the day. I was able to walk to the Kiyumizu-dera and kawaramachi shijo with relative ease. I even walked there from Kyoto station, although it was a long walk. If you want to look...
Completely exceeded my expectations! The shower room gets top marks – it was incredibly warm, and I even had a TV to watch while soaking in the tub. It's also within walking distance of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. In the morning, I had breakfast outside and then went straight to explore Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka near Kiyomizu-dera; it was wonderful with fewer crowds.
best place to stay, near the attraction, clean and the staff was great!!

The place is very clean and conveniently located with bus stop right at he corner.
The only disadvantage is that it has no elevator so need to carry the luggage up n down the stairs
I'm from Taiwan, and this B&B was absolutely amazing! My aunt and I have already agreed that we'll stay here again next time we visit. 🤭
A truly unforgettable stay! I accidentally left my camera on the bus, and the front desk staff immediately called the bus station to help. Within a few hours, they had news of the lost and found. It was also great to be able to communicate in Chinese at the hotel. Everything was perfect and comfortable.
room very good, good Service recommend to our my friend, location good too
Literally the best hotel I have ever stayed in! I have traveled around the world and this was the cleanest place I have ever stayed, I was shocked at how well organized and clean it was! The bathrooms were shared but spotless. The staff were also very nice! I could not have had a better experience, I will definitely come back here if I come back to Kyoto.
The lady is Super helpful would recommend everyone to come

Had a great stay here with my family. Very comfortable and pretty traditional japanese setting. Had a nice experience! Our hosts were very kind and helpful. You couldn't find better hosts and caretakers! A little far from the bus stop and rest of town but results in a nice walk through the residential neighborhood. Only about 13 mins to the bus stop to town.
A different stay in Kyoto, away from the crowds, in the mountain. The rooms are bigger than the standard Japanese, and the hosts are very friendly. There is a 10' walk until the closest bus station, and when it is hot it can be a bit harder, but nothing crazy.
Very far from the center and bus station. But very kind staff. When we were here it was very cold weather, so the toilet and bathroom on the terrace didn't good. But in warm weather must be nice with amazing view.

So its very near the temples and attractions so thats nice. Also away from the kyoto station so consider that if youre also into that. The hostel allowed me to leave my bag before and after checkout so thats perfect. It is also clean and well maintained, though toilet locks can be a bit tricky. They also have a cafe below, then a place to hangout with people and strangers. Have small kitchen with everything...
This hostel is very clean and very reasonable. They allow you to drop off your bags early while you explore Kyoto. The cafe downstairs is very good but messed up my order multiple times.
Perfect location ... super friendly staffs... the beds were clean and comfortable .... toilets in each floor so pretty convenient ... four clean bathrooms so u don’t have to wait long ... small though... the breakfast menu in the cafe , which is in the first floor will not disappoint you... I recommend the yummy pancakes... well, good place to stay while visiting kyoto...

We were so impressed about many things in this hostel. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and were tended to daily by housekeeping. The beds themselves had privacy screens and the bedding was a good weight for the summer. The dorm rooms were air conditioned at night so sleep was comfortable. The guesthouse faces a busy street so there is some Noise but generally the streets quiet down at night...
Yunji, Kenji, ryohei, and kachan were super friendly and helpful. They are proficient in English and will gove you awesome recommendations to cater for your stay in Kyoto. The rooms were spacious and clean.
they have a very nice crews and they'll be able to help you if you need any. there's a coffee shop in the first floor. and you can buy a one day pass bus ticket from the receptionist, you only had pay 500¥.

Great place with more traditional style Japanese sleeping arrangements. Staff spoke english, was very helpful and courteous. Would happly come back here in the future.
The Guesthouse was very clean and all ammenaties available to use. The location was absolutely fantastic close to the city and very close to the train station. I enjoyed my stay and if I was in the Kyoto area I would probably stay there again.
Great location, close to restaurants, shops and temples. Neighborhood has a really lovely feel especially with all the tea houses nearby. The room was large and relatively quiet. We did experience a problem with the hot water one day and couldn't shower as a result, however it was solved by the owners that same day. Would recommend for those wanting to be close to the action in Gion!
affordable and have large room on second floor. There are microwave oven and fridge so midnight snacks is convenient.
Very affordable place! We were, however, in a room on the first floor, and could hear every step that anyone took in the room above us (including kids running around). We could also hear the parents yelling. So, just be aware that sounds from other rooms may be an issue. Luckily, the family upstairs left after our first night and sound want an issue after that. The toilet was in a room in the hallway...

This is my favorite B&B during my ten-day trip to Japan. The location is great, the architecture is elegant Japanese-style, the beds are large and comfortable, and the roommates are all very quiet. I would like to praise the owner 👍. They provide free breakfast, which is super delicious and especially rich with a variety of fruits. I think it's great value and highly recommended!!!
(I was so sure i also took pictures of the guesthouse but i totally forgot - all i habe to offer are close by shrines and Jiro 💗)
I was in a 4 people mixed dorm on the ground floor.
🪲PROS:
- well connected to both busses and the subway
- A lot of Shrines in a 500m radius and both Ninnenzaka, Sannenzaka and Kiyomizu-dera are within walkable distance
- Multiple Lawsons close to the guesthouse
- Clean...
It was my first time staying in this kind of youth hostel. The breakfast was very rich. I will choose this again next time. I am very satisfied.
The puppy is so cute ~~
The facilities are good and the staff is friendly
The breakfast was good quality and delicious, so I was completely satisfied and was able to go on my next trip
I was happy that the puppy came out to greet me when I left ~~^*^
Great locations, near main attractions, bus stops and subway stations! The owner is friendly and offered great breakfast! Very safe for solo travellers. The dog is very cute and quiet.
The room is a dormitory bunk bed, the small courtyard is very elegant, and the boss's miso soup is very fresh and delicious!
It's a 15-minute walk from JR Otsu Station, and the facilities are decent. I wouldn't say it's very good.
I contacted the hotel manager on Ctrip. He sent me an address but I didn't take it seriously. I went directly to the hotel where I booked. But he said it was full and asked me to go to a branch. It was tiring to walk several miles with my luggage. So he drove to pick me up. It is a Chinese-run hotel. It was a renovated old Japanese-style house. The new branch has separate rooms. It is not far from...
Such a lovely hostel to stay. The owner is very friendly. If you’re looking for a place that offers nature and rest, only 10 minutes away from Kyoto station. This is your place
It's good because it's cheap. It's okay if you just need to sleep for a day or so.
This is a B&B that provides Chinese services. It is located within walking distance of the JR station and the port, and is just across the street from the shopping street. We booked the entire 2nd floor, which is very large and has all the toiletries and kitchenware you need. We also happened to meet the Otsu Festival by coincidence. It was so lively and we were very lucky and happy.
Positive point: very short distance from station. Near this guesthouse, there's a nice udon restaurant. Room is big enough to rest.
Negative Point: short distance from station also means there'll be some noise caused by train.
I saw a giant bug on the ceiling at night.
Moreover, some electric outlets and little lamp on the bed didn't work. Only outlets in 2 out of 4 beds worked properly.
Air conditioner...

We first stayed at Gion Ryokan Qbeh in 2014 for our honeymoon, and it left such a deep impression on us that we always hoped we would return one day. In 2025, we finally came back — this time with our kids — and it was just as magical, in a completely different but equally meaningful way.
This stay, we booked four private ensuite rooms, which was perfect for our family. The rooms were beautifully...
The stay was nice. Showers were clean and there was free coffee. The traditional beds were oke for a couple of days, but not for a week. I was looking forward to a place with curtains and a good bed. Location is perfect!
We stayed for 6 nights and loved it. Very helpful, friendly staff, great location and well equipped kitchen with free coffee you can make in individual drip. Amazing hot water for showers. Attracts a young, quiet, friendly group of international travelers.
This hostel was very close to the shops and very close to restaurants and cafes. Staff was very nice and accommodating while I visited Kyoto. The rooms for resting was clean, with AC. The bathrooms and toilets are very clean ! There is a rest area at the 3 floor where you can rest, there is also a big kitchen and fridges.
Overall, highly recommended
This is nice hostel in GION. Gion is very old area in Kyoto.
I had a wonderful time here and enjoyed my stay very much. The location of this place was staggering. It was close to almost everywhere I wanted to visit. The staff was very warm and friendly, and very helpful in different situations. They truly made me feel at home. It was so good I had to extend my trip for one more week. I will definitely recommend this place and will go back whenever I'm in the...
