We first stayed at Gion Ryokan Qbeh in 2014 for our honeymoon, and it left such a deep impression on us that we always hoped we would return one day. In 2025, we finally came back — this time with our kids — and it was just as magical, in a completely different but equally meaningful way.

This stay, we booked four private ensuite rooms, which was perfect for our family. The rooms were beautifully maintained, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed, blending traditional Kyoto atmosphere with modern comfort. Even with children, the ryokan felt calm, welcoming, and never overwhelming.

It’s rare to return to a place after so many years and feel that it has aged with grace rather than changed for the worse. Qbeh has done exactly that. From honeymoon memories to family memories, this ryokan has become part of our story in Kyoto.

The stay was nice. Showers were clean and there was free coffee. The traditional beds were oke for a couple of days, but not for a week. I was looking forward to a place with curtains and a good bed. Location is perfect!

We stayed for 6 nights and loved it. Very helpful, friendly staff, great location and well equipped kitchen with free coffee you can make in individual drip. Amazing hot water for showers. Attracts a young, quiet, friendly group of international travelers.

It’s a hostel. Rooms smell bad (we witnessed two people checking out early because of that) and the staff claims it’s tatami mat smell, but we have not experienced it in others ryokans and it’s the reason our clothes and backpacks smell badly after our stay there. The garden view from the window is for some reason obstructed by bamboo crates. As a whole they are focused on maximum profit at the expense of your comfort- the fact that you need to pay 100 yen for an extra towel, they don’t clean your room or change towels during your stay and the shower is push-button operated (presumably to irritate you into saving water by having to push it every 5 seconds) tells you all you need to know about this place.

This hostel was very close to the shops and very close to restaurants and cafes. Staff was very nice and accommodating while I visited Kyoto. The rooms for resting was clean, with AC. The bathrooms and toilets are very clean ! There is a rest area at the 3 floor where you can rest, there is also a big kitchen and fridges.
Overall, highly recommended

I had a wonderful time here and enjoyed my stay very much. The location of this place was staggering. It was close to almost everywhere I wanted to visit. The staff was very warm and friendly, and very helpful in different situations. They truly made me feel at home. It was so good I had to extend my trip for one more week. I will definitely recommend this place and will go back whenever I'm in the city.

To the staff: Thank you for your hospitality and making my experience in kyoto so great

Good value, nice quiet location, but I wish the shower situation was better... They are very cramped stalls. The immediate surrounding location does not have much for food close by, although there are a few good places if you look. I don't think it's the most family-friendly.

A great place in the old district, Gion, quite the climb to get there tho, 12 minutes walk up hills.
The Ryokan itself is very neat and has helpful and friendly English speaking stuff, wide rooms, air conditioned. The only problem is the shower.
3 shared shower rooms for the whole hotel (which is quite alright since there aren't too many rooms, I never had to wait for someone to finish showering, yet.) And also, playing with the water temperature is difficult, it jumps from freezing to boiling. A button is needed to be pressed every 2 minutes or so to keep the water flowing.

Overall, great worth.
Not so great shower, which is needed after a day of walk and exhaustness in Kyoto.

Location is great! Inside Gino district and you can feel the historical Kyoto for reasonable price.

Hostel is clean and easy to access by bus.
Staff are helpful and friendly.

Common room on 3/f is great.
