This Ryokan has no other facilities other than the suite with a bedroom and a sitting room. The bathroom is divided into two with an appealing cedar bath tub in one and the sink and toilet in the other. There is just a Reception . The garden for our room was individual . Especially because of Momiji the Japanese garden view was typical and magical . The suite had a lot of charm . The day Receptionist...
Such lovely people but so crowded. Very interesting and safe but best to get out of the big cities if you can. Because of the crowds I won’t be returning but it certainly was an experience to remember. Very friendly and caring people always willing to help.
Very good experience
Beautiful traditional Japanese garden
Amazing stay.
This was our first time experience at a Ryokan and we loved it.
It was such a serene place, we loved it.
The tea when we arrived, the hot bath, the traditional breakfast, the amazing gardens, what a great place!
Tiger was an amazing host… we would highly recommend and will definitely stay there again if we come back to Kyoto.
The absolutely most amazing place I have ever spent the night in. The space itself has been renovated just enough to contemporize it to today's standards. Any more and it would take away from how beautiful and rooted the space is. As with many places in Japan - no detail has been left aside. However, Genhouin has taken the time to think each detail through in such a cohesive manner.
You are gently...
10/10. Truly amazing experience, we stayed for one night for my birthday, it was our first experience with a traditional ryokan hotel. We thought it could be a bit overwhelming with all the rules we read about at ryokans, but turned out it was not that hard, as the hosts were extremely nice, helpful and welcoming. Can't really say enough about the design/aesthetics of the interior and the view to a...

love it so much. good services and all staffs is superb nice.
Personally, I think if you're looking to book a room costing 4,000 to 5,000 yen or more, you might consider this hotel. However, if you're just looking to book a room for 1,000 to 2,000 yen, hoping to get a good deal and experience a high-end hotel, I suggest you forget about it. You won't even be able to enter the garden; it's like a cheap youth hostel in rural Japan. And for 1,000 yen, you can get...
First-class environment, first-class management, first-class service.
Quaint and charming with a lovely courtyard breakfast that gets plenty of sun.
The charming atmosphere of this century-old ryokan and its friendly staff were truly impressive. The spacious room and private onsen allowed me to completely relax and rejuvenate throughout my stay. The exquisite kaiseki dinner, enjoyed with a stunning view of the Japanese garden, was a highlight. Nanzenji Yachiyo Ryokan, which allowed me to experience the unique charm of rainy Kyoto, was simply superb...
I found a hotel with history, it's really historic (old)
It's small, the environment is good, the dinner provided by the hotel is very good, the breakfast feels like a repeat of the dinner, but I can't finish it at all, but the environment of the restaurant is really good, the room is a traditional tatami, people who are not used to sleeping should choose carefully, one night experience is enough

You will have access to both the first and second floors of a detached house with an Airbnb-like atmosphere.
Please be prepared for the fact that, typical of Japanese homes, it is not very warm during the winter. (However, there are two heating air conditioners on the first floor and two on the second, so it is not extremely cold.)
It is located in a strategic area, close to Higashiyama subway station...
The room was excellent, very clean and tidy. The location is superb, right in the city center, close to several attractions, and the subway station is just outside. My only minor disappointment was the lack of a washing machine and a place to dry clothes.
An absolutely stunning and luxurious traditional Japanese detached house! Our family of four (adults and children) absolutely loved it. The decor is very new, and it spans two stories. The first floor features a tatami bedroom with two individual futons, an open-plan living room and kitchen (no cooking allowed), a separate toilet, and an outdoor shower and bathtub, perfect for a daily private bath...
The location is very good, just five minutes walk from the subway!
Quiet! clean! Very spacious! The space is large and the facilities are complete!
You can walk everywhere! Already recommended to friends!
It's a very large and independent B&B. You can take a bath every day. There is a convenience store next to it. I buy rice balls and side dishes for Japanese breakfast every morning, just like at home. I will book it next time.
An independent villa with everything you need, very satisfied
Suitable for a family, quiet, there is fried pork chops downstairs, Luoshen convenience store, and the subway entrance is 3 minutes away

The size of the room was great, and the amenities were nice
Create location, walking distance to manual attractions, huge hotel room space in Japanese style
The desk was broken and the outside balcony had some kind of curtains that were broken. Look very outdated. Bed was nice and comfortable, very good size room. I mentioned my silver status as was required by ******* but nothing happened. Over all was a good stay and a clean room. The location is great!
We enjoyed this hotel for its traditional Japanese style. The room was clean but the conditions of the carpet and other furniture was run down and needed to be updated. The staff was kind though their English wasn’t too great. The location was perfect and Kyoto was an amazing city
It was really nice. Close to everything. The suite was so big with a living area. The bathroom was really big and the jacuzzi was a convenience! After a day of walking the bathtub was a respite for tired muscles. No need for onsen!
I will definitely stay here when in Gion/ Kyoto area.
Very nice. Staff was wonderful, bathroom in the room was incredible!! The tub was so relaxing.
The room had a frayed and stained carpet and there were no plugs for charging devices.

Great location 50m from Yasaka Pagoda and plenty of well known touristy streets. Lots of snack and meal options nearby. Rooms were large and well air conditioned (a must in Summer!) Laundry and bathroom facilities were good and we had everything we needed for a short stay. Check in process and communication was difficult but mostly due to the agency not passing on important info like where the key...
In the heart of the old town. Very traditional. Used the big tub several times. Wonderful!
The property was clean and located in an excellent area. It had access to many local temples and shrines, as well as, dining options.
Perfect location in Gion.
Perfect location. Very clean. Just a little difficult to find ;)
Very friendly and professional check in staff.
…one minor improvement; maybe have some tea and coffee available in the Machiya for the amount of nights stayed.
Right in the heart of Gion, we couldn’t ask for a better location. 5 -10 mins from Kiyomizu Dera. Lovely traditional home very comfy and an overall great experience
We had a great experience staying here as a family of 5. The location was perfect and in the most charming neighborhood in Kyoto. We especially loved staying in a traditional home nestled at the end of a charming alley. Akemi was incredibly responsive and kind host.

We chose this hotel completely by chance and stayed for just one night — and we didn’t regret it at all. This is honestly the best staff we have encountered in Japan. For a moment, I even felt like I was back home in Saint Petersburg. There is a special, warm vibe among the team here. All the receptionists were incredibly polite, always ready to help, and very communicative. We stayed in more “serious...
Had a pleasant stay. The room is clean and the staffs are very friendly and helpful.
A vibrant and modern hotel manned by young people. Walking distance to Sujicho and slightly further to Kyoto station. You can a bus to the Nishiki market. Near to other well known tourists attractions.
Great experience for the price paid. Lobby receptionists were super friendly with staff capable of speaking either English, Japanese, Chinese and/or Korean. The room was clean and new. The lobby was nice, clean, simple but modern. Located within 4-7 mins walking distance from the train station. Definitely recommended for those who don't mind a short walk to the train station.
The hotel has a reception, check-in was excellent and fast, the hotel provides free razors, toothbrush and other amenities. The room is clean with large beds, the shower has everything you need. Also on the first floor there is a washing machine for an additional fee, which was convenient for us. The hotel is located a 20-minute walk from the center of Kyoto or you can go by bus faster, we liked to...
The room was bigger than typical Japanese hotels; we could open two suitcases simultaneously. There was also a small dining table with chairs and a vanity. Good and a quite place to stay
A really mixed experience - some great things to recommend this place and some quite poor things you should know about. Like some other guests before us it seems, we also did not receive a PIN code before we got there and so had no way to get in to the building let alone our room. Didn't even know we needed a code except other guests told us after we arrived. Took quite a while to get a response...
The room is big for 4 adults. Microwave and toaster. Full fridge shower was big and has laundry machine in room. The clothes will not dry completely. You need to hang them but there was many hang her. My only complaint was the AC. It was Soo loud! Sounded like there was a hurican in our room.
Great stylish hotel, great location, everything is clean, there is even a Dyson hairdryer, I recommend it.
Very spacious and not bad. Just when we were checking in, an old Japanese lady came out of the alley and started chirping at us. She must have been cursing. Inexplicably, she replied "Baga" and left.
The location is very good and the room is OK, but there is no elevator and it is inconvenient to carry luggage.

Location was very good but the hotel is very dated and appears grubby because of it. The staff are hidden behind a wall so you can’t see them and can only communicate via a space at the bottom. It was kind of weird. The staff were friendly though.
This was a love hotel, decorated in a Showa-era style. Check-in was at 5 PM, which was quite late, but the staff were very kind and attentive. So I left my luggage there and continued sightseeing. When I returned to the hotel that night, I was shocked! The room reeked of cigarette smoke, which was disgusting. Combined with the outdated decor, I didn't dare sleep all night, only managing to drift off...
They gave me a late checkout (2 hours extension) for no additional charge. Staff tried to talk in English with me, and was very helpful. Breakfast was amazing also, and very cheap! The room is very spacious. Some things seem a bit old, and the red light in the bathroom did not work. But it was a nice stay, would probably do it again in the future!
good good, very comfortable. Very friendly
This is a love hotel. It has all the necessities, bed, bath and toilet. Unfortunately the hotel has a very dated feel, lighting ,carpet and wall show its age.
Love hotel rooms are big , and this is no exception. Also big :)
Not the most exciting or modern love hotel I have been to. For cheap and last minute accommodations it's no problem for seasoned travelers. There is no issue with cleanliness...

The room was beautiful, clean and staff were efficient and gracious.
Awesome experience staying here at Rinn Gion Kenninji! Nicely decorated room, great ambience and walking distance to main attractions in Kyoto. Highly recommend
The room was clean, tidy, and spacious, and even had a bathtub where you could relax after a long day! The location was also quite convenient, making it a great place for a family to stay, and you could also experience a Japanese style!
Wonderful stay for 4 of us, wife with teens. Hotel apartment next to temple, quiet area to walk about, yet restaurants within a block. Live the nearby ramen and udon places. The river a couple of blocks away was great for morning run. Waking distance to larger shopping districts across the river. Waking distance to larger sites and temples in our side of river. Great set up for our first visit to Kyoto
Good location and good service
The main advantage of this hotel is the location in the old parts of town, which means that you can walk to several of the attractions. For example, there was a great temple and museum right behind the hotel. Some of the rooms are very small though. I would recommend paying extra to get a little larger room otherwise you will feel like you’re in a boat cabin

This was better then we expected. Really nice location, close to the old town (walking distance), but still quite. Some of our favorites restaurants where from the street next to the hotel.
Small but convenient and quiet and comfortable
Nice location in Gion, close to noteworthy points both at night and during the day
Very good value for money overall
The room was rather small; with two large suitcases open, space had to be cleverly utilized. Room cleaning was done at fixed times, every other day, but towels were changed and trash disposed of daily upon request. The room seemed well soundproofed; I heard very little noise during my four-night stay. The hotel is located in a small alley; the road in front is a 17-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple...
I thought the location would be a bit off-putting, considering it's a bit far from Kyoto Station, but it's also close to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and there were more restaurants and attractions nearby than I expected! The facilities were nice, and most importantly, the staff were friendly!
I was staying alone, so there was no need for an extra bed. The room was spacious enough for one person, and could even accommodate two people with luggage. However, you need to pick up your own toothbrush and toothpaste from a designated area when you go upstairs, as there are none in the bathroom. The best thing about this place is its proximity to Gion-Shijo (within 10 minutes) and Kiyomizu-dera...
Clean, the front desk staff is friendly and amiable, the location is close to Kiyomizu Temple, the toilet is big enough, there are water dispensers, ice machines and ice buckets for guests to use, the only drawback is that there is no cleaning service (you need to pay extra)

A really quaint hotel on a quiet street near the Gion district in Kyoto. The rooms are traditional Japanese style, and quite spacious by local standards. We really enjoyed the location, although about 15 minute walk from most things to do in Kyoto other than the Gion area.
Other reviews are accurate about the pillows, though. They are truly awful. The bed is also pretty firm. Not a giant deal to me...
It should be a B&B, but it's a little different from what I imagined. From the outside, I thought it was a pub.
I stayed in this hotel a few years ago and visited it again. The king-size bed room is much smaller than the twin bed room. The minibar in the room is free but the drinks are not tasty. The overall decoration style of the hotel is very good.
I loved staying at this hotel! It had such a cool, funky vibe. The location is very convenient for seeing the sites but being out of the hustle and bustle when you want to relax. First off, the hotel's location is absolutely fantastic! It's right up there with the Hyatt at Ninen-zaka. Being next to Chion-in Temple, it just sets the stage perfectly. All the main attractions are within walking distance.

Excellent location, with a unique morning blessing ceremony. The hotel is in superb condition, and the service is great, perfect for an authentic local cultural experience. Most attendees at the morning temple blessing are Japanese. The rooms are spotless and the facilities are all very new.
Convenient location, spacious rooms, and great toiletries. We even got a complimentary breakfast on our last night, which was a pleasant surprise. Thank you!
Be sure to try the hotel's morning ritual, a Buddhist ceremony known as the 'Morning Awakening Ritual'. The entire hotel boasts a distinctly Japanese design. It's said that Wang Sicong chose this type of hotel in Kyoto to unwind.
This is my second stay here. My previous booking was direct through their official website, but I found a better deal on Ctrip this time. A unique feature of this place is the opportunity to attend the temple's morning service and listen to Japanese monks chanting. What's more, it's conveniently located very close to popular attractions, making it incredibly easy to explore on foot.
