Kappo Ryokan Kannawa Bettei, Beppu1 / 11

Beppu, Honome1kumi, Beppu city, Oita (5 km from centre) 🧭 Map
Honestly, it might have been the best shrimp sashimi (Ebi) and steak I've ever had! Another great thing is that you can book online, which is rare for traditional Ryokans with private onsens
We have a great time at this amazing ryokan. Their breakfast and dinner are delicious. We parked our car at the ryokan and it’s only walking distance to one of the sightseeing spot. It is a very convenient location
And even with the language barrier, communication was smooth thanks to Sato-san who handled our reservation. Overall, it was an unforgettable and truly relaxing experience
They don’t have a lot of rooms as it is very private for us. The room is very traditional and very beautiful. The futon they prepared for us is soft and comfortable
The staff were incredibly friendly and made our stay even more special. Toyada-san took very good care of us during our stay
We stayed in a beautiful Japanese-style room with futons (very comfortable!) and had two private onsens: one indoor and one open-air. The outdoor bath felt peaceful and secluded, surrounded by trees and bamboo sticks

The hotel room is a little small and bed is soft but overall still quite good for location and front desk service.
This hotel offers incredible value for money – it's so good, I almost want to keep it a secret! However, I've seen a negative review claiming someone couldn't get back into the hotel at night, and I want to clarify that
However, transportation in Miyazaki is quite inconvenient; you need to book a taxi in advance to get back to the station from the hotel, as it's hard to hail one from the street
It's a bit of a walk from the station, and dragging luggage was a bit tough
I'm not sure what the reasoning was. To take a bath, I had to carry a basket out and go to the main building. The slippers provided were also very slippery. It was very inconvenient, especially in the cold weather
When I booked, it only showed the room, not that it was in an annex building. We ended up being placed in the building next door, which had much simpler facilities and was significantly smaller

The view from the rooms is good too! You can see the mountains and the public baths. The only thing about this hotel is that it isn’t authentic. Their outdoor bathing area allows people to wear swimming costumes
The hotel service is very good, the room is clean and tidy, and the sea hell is nearby
But it was definitely a good and comfortable stay for us
I also appreciated the picturesque public open-air bath nearby, and the convenient option to borrow swimming attire from the front desk. Overall, a truly relaxing and rejuvenating stay - highly recommended!
As part of a tour group, I wasn't sure what to expect, but our stay at this resort exceeded my expectations! The entire property felt brand new, and the amenities were thoughtfully provided for
The rooms were fresh and clean, adding to the overall comfort. The resort's mountain location offered fresh air and great mountain views

Very close to train station. They rent e-bikes for a good price. 1500 yen for 6 hours or a little more for the whole day. Was able to cycle to all the sights and tackle the hills easily.
The location is excellent, less than 100 meters walk from Beppu Station, making it super convenient for getting around. The hotel itself isn't big, but it's generally clean and tidy
A business hotel without onsen but still a good one to stay for Beppu. Staffs are helpful even some of them cannot speak english but try to help 😀
Room is small but service is good. Hotel provides a handy to guests for free. Very close to Beppu Station.
Hotel staff very nice and english support is perfect recommend for traveller location close to beppu station around 150 meter Even hotel operate over 45 year but the room also new and tidy next i will spend more in beppu
While it's true they are adjacent to the elevated rail, in practice this isn't really a problem for all but the most sensitive travellers because of frequency and limited use at night

About a 15-minute walk east from JR Beppu Station. It's right by the seawall, so you can enjoy the ocean view, blue skies, and white clouds. The Japanese breakfast was excellent
I chose this seaside hotel to enjoy the sunrise and sunset while soaking in the hot spring. The two meals included were decent, and the seafood was fresh. The mentaiko for breakfast was a local specialty
Right across the first road from the hotel entrance, there's a large shopping mall with a supermarket, Muji, Starbucks, and everything you could need. However, most seaside hotels tend to be older
This one has been renovated and feels quite new. You have to lay out your own futon on the tatami mat (mine was a mess!), so for elderly guests with mobility issues, I'd recommend a standard bed
This is a Japanese-style onsen ryokan, so rooms don't have showers, but there are separate public baths for men and women on the 6th floor, as well as private, chargeable baths
Bonus: The hotel also offers 'onsen sharing' with the nearby Mimatsu Ooetei, which was a pleasant surprise and within walking distance

Kannawa Onsen Hotel Sansuikan, Beppu1 / 30
9.0
Beppu, 628-1 Tsurumi (5 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The hotel is in a great location, just across from Kannawa Station from Fukuoka Airport. While the hotel is older, the rooms are clean and the service is excellent
Sansuikan is an older hotel, but it's well-maintained. After a night's rest, I took the direct bus from Beppu to Fukuoka Station the next day 🚌 (remember to buy your ticket the day before, as it's very crowded)
The outdoor bath on the 1st floor had a landscaped area, was even larger, and there was also a dry steam room. The breakfast and dinner were incredibly filling, and I couldn't finish them all
Go to Beppu Station's west exit, on the left, at Station 3. Take Line 1 bus 🚌 to the last stop, Kannawa. It's a two-minute walk to Sansuikan. From Sansuikan, walk left for about eight minutes to Umijigoku 😊
That night, I ate at Hama Sushi 🍣 across from Sansuikan. Then, I went back to the hotel to soak in the hot springs. The sixth floor is the best, with its open-air bath
There are Chinese staff, and when we visited, there were also several Chinese female university interns. However, most of the staff didn't speak English, so I needed mobile phone translation and gestures

The tatami style is good but the are plenty of dust above us Location is good beppu tower is nearby bepou station not far, free car parks for self driver traveller (start to collect fees July onwards) Onsen is good Overall nice hotel
The hotel room was very spacious with a great location and sea views. There were many dining options nearby, and the service was excellent. The bathhouse was comfortable, and the breakfast was delicious
The cleanliness was also top-notch. I had a really good night's sleep on the floor in the Japanese-style room
Although a bit old, it is very clean and well-maintained, with all the necessary facilities. The onsen was fantastic—great temperature, nice room, and very convenient to enjoy
Breakfast buffet was excellent with good amount of variation and it's warmly flavored. The sea view from breakfast venue was beautiful
5 star hotel prior and the air-conditioner, hair dryer and toilet exhaust were noisy and faulty, while in the older Tsuruta where everything works well! This don't judge a book by its cover, older hotels is just as good! I've attached a photo of the park and harbour view from my room at Tsuruta

I also enjoyed the night view from the entrance while eating ice cream after taking a bath in the hot spring. The food was also very good, and I was satisfied with both the appearance and the taste
Away from the hustle and bustle, the food is of average quality, with a particularly good breakfast. The service is good, and you can use the private bath for free. There aren't many rooms.
I was solo traveling and don’t speak Japanese, but the staff was amazing and made everything easy for me! The dinner and breakfast were very good too and I enjoyed the private bath as well
Absolutely fantastic! The breakfast was incredibly delicious. The environment was beautiful. The rooms were spacious. The service was excellent. I would definitely come again.
The service is very good, the food is delicious, and the environment is beautiful. The hotel can arrange a special car pick-up, which is very convenient.
The service was also excellent! The private onsen (hot spring bath) was a bit small, with each session lasting 50 minutes

The Best Hotel Experience for a Solo Traveler in Beppu! As a solo traveler who has explored Japan for years, I can confidently say that this hotel stands out as the absolute best I've experienced so far
🛌 Spacious and Comforting Room Japanese hotel rooms are famously compact, which is why the size here was such a pleasant surprise. The room was noticeably bigger and more spacious compared to other hotels I've stayed at
Beyond the size, it was immaculately clean and incredibly comfy. A wonderful touch that truly made a difference was the personalized notes—a thoughtful detail that made me feel genuinely welcomed and valued as a guest
📍 Unbeatable Central Location The convenience of this hotel's location truly cannot be overstated. It places you right in the heart of Beppu, making it the ideal base for exploration

Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, and we were very satisfied with the quality of the meals
Overall, I was very satisfied with the hotel facilities. I believe that when guests face unexpected difficulties, a little extra kindness and support from staff can greatly enhance their overall impression of the hotel
I reached out for help because I was unsure how to handle the situation, and it seemed that the staff found it difficult to respond, possibly because it was not covered in their standard service guidelines
As someone who travels to many countries, this was not a common experience, and I believe that a bit more proactive and reassuring guidance from the front desk would have made a significant difference
However, when I asked if I could call the rental car help desk, there was some hesitation, and I was told that the hotel could not get involved between the rental company and the customer
When I asked the front desk if the hotel could assist with charging the battery, I was informed that such a service was not available, which I completely understand

I was a bit nervous after booking this hotel, but it turned out to be an excellent choice! The hotel is a traditional Japanese courtyard building with six rooms. It's about a 15-minute taxi ride from Beppu JR station
A wonderful family-run onsen ryokan with excellent service. One of the staff members spoke excellent English, which made communication very smooth
Love the private onsen, and private dinner and breakfast. Good service too.
You absolutely must try the dinner and breakfast included in the stay – it's incredibly good value for money! The food for both dinner and breakfast was absolutely delicious! Dinner was especially generous; we couldn't even finish it all
The hotel is conveniently located and easy to reach. The waiters are attentive and attentive. The food is carefully prepared and tastes good
This Japanese hot spring hotel in Beppu is definitely a good choice for those who like Japanese style. You can also choose a semi-open-air private bath. There are many styles of women's yukatas, choose your favorite

However, compared to other hot spring hotels in the same price range, there's no welcome drink or all-you-can-drink option, and only iced water is provided after the hot spring bath
The outdoor bath was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. Parking costs 500 yen, but they offered parking upon check-in, which was convenient.
Very convenient locations to the “hells” attractions.
When I asked if I had to pay for breakfast since my child was 5 years old, they told me several times that it was the same as an adult. I couldn't believe it, so I asked again, and they said, oh, then I don't have to pay
Wow, it was really bad for the price. It was over 700,000 won per night. and during my 2 night stay, I couldn't eat the kaiseki meal because it was full
Other than the location, it was a hotel with really bad value for money! I have no intention of coming back!

Very good meal and nice onsen. We all have good stay in the hotel.
Staff were nice, service was good. Buffer dinner was good. Unlimited supply was good quality beef steak
It was a buffet feast with lots of selection, such as snow crab, Oita wagyu beef. Service at the restaurant was superb. It's next to a convenience store and there's free parking for hotel guests
The hotel has a coin laundry, which is helpful for travellers who need frequent clothes washing. It might seem a bit pricey to include dinner, but please include it
This place is between Beppu Ropeway and Hells of Beppu, so plan your route properly, if not you will end up going up and down the mountains numerous times

Nothing but good things to say about the hotel, it is one of the best stays I´ve had anywhere and a hotel with excellent value
The hotsprings were excellent with ocean and mountain views, and food was above and beyond our expectation. The hotel tatamis were comfortable and the staff were highly professional
Food not the best but good enough for the price
While the building and rooms are recognisable a bit older it is well kept and clean. The staff is absolutely top notch and the food was very tasty and of good quality
This was the only place in Beppu I could find that had hot springs and let solo travelers book a room for my timeframe. Would come again! Also kudos for the pianist playing ghibli songs in the evening
If you’re traveling with large luggage, the shuttle or a short taxi ride would be a better option. The location is excellent, situated right behind Beppu Tower, with plenty of convenience stores and restaurants nearby

The best part? You get an amazing aerial view of the Beppu coastline right from your room and your private bath
We can’t say enough good things about this hotel and were genuinely sad we could only stay for one night
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. It might be my favourite place I've ever stayed. The building itself is absolutely stunning. We probably spent an hour just walking around taking pictures
With real hotspring introduced to the bathtub in private room, it felt very special. We had some of the most amazing meals in Kyushu there during our 2 night stays. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional
Breakfast was delicious and beautifully executed—while the selection is small, every dish was prepared tastefully. Note on Location: The hotel is located about a 10–15 minute drive from Beppu Central
Our room had a private onsen bath overlooking the city—absolutely gorgeous—and the balcony was just as stunning. Breakfast was fantastic as well, and they were able to provide gluten free options

Nice hotel and good service. The hot springs are the best. Will come again’!
The good thing is that it's open 24 hours, which is really great. Other places have time restrictions. The private bath is only available for 40 minutes
Everyone goes to Yufuin for ryokans, right? I like Beppu here. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Since there weren't many people, I used the open-air bath and the private bath a lot
The room was very satisfactory. There is a big problem in Japan. When booking a room, it is stated that only one person can stay (even if it is a double room)
If you are not careful, you will have to pay extra💰! Be careful⚠️
I had a wagyu set meal for dinner, but the sashimi was not fresh, and was obviously stored for a long time, and was very dry. The highlight is the Wagyu hotpot, the soup base is water with a slice of kelp

For the Japanese meal, the side dish box contains grilled fish, tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), kinpira (fried stir-fried vegetables), pickles, and a raw egg. Rice and miso soup are provided separately
You can choose one dish from salad, dessert, natto, etc. For the Western meal, the box contains an egg sandwich, sausage, and fruit. You can use egg coupons to get salad, dessert, etc
I often use this hotel for business trips. It's a beautiful hotel with many restaurants nearby, so I recommend it. The breakfast is also satisfying
The room is spacious, and the bathroom and toilet are separate. For breakfast, you can choose between Japanese and Western food
They have their own points exchange system, and you can exchange points for instant ramen and snacks
Our stay was nice and it was comfortable enough, however dust has accumulated on the curtains. The shower curtain also smelt like it didn’t dry well. We never tried the breakfast though as we always woke up too late.

Great mountain side hotel with fantastic view over Beppu. Traveling to Yufin and around is super easy from the hotel. I would come back to this place
They are renewing the onsen on the fourth floor, and I couldn't try it
Great hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was wonderful, delicious and plentiful. Rooms are very clean and quiet. Enjoyed the privat onsen facilities
I like everything but the food. The food is great quality and the sashimi is thick! But is frozen! Is so icy cold. And the pork steak has a porky smell. The starter is nice though.
The breakfast is so good, very high value. They change the main dish every day. A huge variety of food to eat. They close the hotel door at midnight, so the first night, i had to call them to let me in
I Strongly Recommend Improvement, But the Food Is Wonderful I recently stayed at Beppu Fuuga, and while there were some very disappointing aspects regarding the service and facilities, there were also some great points

The temperature of the source is 99℃, which is the best hot spring in Beppu in Japan. I think that the parking lot is wide and easy to use
I won’t recommend this place to anybody
Awesome service as expected from a Japanese Ryokan. There was a lot of food and it was delicious. The sake was great as well with a fruity flavor
To take a shower you do need to use the familiar public onsen once available but still a great experience
I thought it was a little troublesome because I had to check the hot spring lamp all the way to the lobby on the first floor. The bath I wanted to take a bath had the lamp on all the time, so I took a different bath
I went in with my 5-year-old daughter, but she said it was lukewarm, and the one in it was colder, which was disappointing. I looked for the hot water faucet but couldn't find it. It was dark at night and I gave up
