Beppu, Wakakusatyou (2 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The REX hotel is beautifully located along the Beppu coastline, which made the stay even more enjoyable. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed in the parking area, and I would like to sincerely thank the staff member who kindly helped carry our luggage to the front desk—his hospitality made a great first impression. Inside the hotel, guests are asked to remove their shoes and wear indoor slippers...
Hotel is located in Beppu. Easily accessiable with seaview.
The hotel's location is a bit out of the way. The ocean view from the room was okay, I guess. You're required to take off your shoes when entering the hotel, but they don't even provide disposable slippers, so the service is pretty mediocre. The front desk staff also had a very unenthusiastic attitude during check-in. The hotel tries to project an image of being very clean and upscale, but honestly...
Nice hotel with friendly staff and delicious cuisine. The public onsen is also awesome.
I definitely will stay away from this hotel. No clue what service is all about.
Due to language barrier we had thought the check out time was like most hotels in Japan which is 11am but for this hotel it is 10am.
At 10am sharp, reception called to say we had to leave. So we packed quickly and vacated room by 10:30. At 10:15 a second call came followed by a third one at 10:25, despite the hotel not...

Thumb up for this hotel as hotel served alcoholic drink as welcome drink.
Great location near Station . Free hot spring really clean and safe. Near by the hotel got station market just a few minutes walk good to buy something fresh interest local food . Breakfast healthy and good quality food.
Nice hotel, clean and comfy, everything is ready for travelers, good location.
Good hotel close to the railroad station.Very friendly and helpful staff.Room was at the smaller side and for 2 people would be hard to move.Pillow was rock hard but they have more pillows at the reception.Bit older hotel but it's no a big issue.

It is right next to Beppu station, the onsen is overnight though I have not try but at least they provide, no check out procedures, free breakfast, password instead of room key and free drink is super convenient. The room with Seaview and spacious with a sofa bed is out of expectation. Everything is perfect at this price.
This hotel deserves a great review! It's very affordable, and the location is fantastic – just a 5-minute walk from Beppu Station, making it super convenient to get anywhere. They offer a self-service breakfast and even have a complimentary happy hour in the evening where you can use the restaurant and enjoy drinks. Everything was perfect, except for the small room size.

While the building and rooms are recognisable a bit older it is well kept and clean.
The staff is absolutely top notch and the food was very tasty and of good quality.
This was the only place in Beppu I could find that had hot springs and let solo travelers book a room for my timeframe.
Would come again!
Also kudos for the pianist playing ghibli songs in the evening.
Nothing but good things to say about the hotel, it is one of the best stays I´ve had anywhere and a hotel with excellent value. The hotsprings were excellent with ocean and mountain views, and food was above and beyond our expectation. The hotel tatamis were comfortable and the staff were highly professional. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone coming to Buppa. I hope to return again soon!
This Japanese-style hotel offers amazing value for money, especially with its beautiful sea views. I booked the one-night, two-meal plan, and the food was incredibly generous – I even had a lot of beef leftover from dinner the second night, which was a shame! The staff were all very friendly, and the sea view was absolutely stunning.
This hotel is so different with the other resort styles I’ve ever been to.
3 reasons I recommend this hotel:
1. Delicious dining with oversized sashimi and premium beef.
2. Roof top onsen where I experienced starry night and sunrise of this southern Japan area
3. Free music concert every night that is totally above my expectations where my family had a great time gather together and listen to the...
Total unblocked wide amazing open sea view, room not the biggest but adequate. Sparkling clean though I believe it is an older building, so it was much better than we expected. Food not the best but good enough for the price. Only thing not as good as the room and food was the public baths, a bit smallish and the roof top open bath's design does not allow much view while you are in it, but only with...
This was our first trip to Beppu as a group of three adults, and we were looking for a hotel that was both convenient and offered an onsen. Seaside Hotel Mimatsu Ooetei delivered perfectly.

This resort is amazing! From the unique architecture to their services are absolutely fantastic. We stayed on the 4th floor which was looking onto the beautiful townscape and coastline of Beppu. With real hotspring introduced to the bathtub in private room, it felt very special. We had some of the most amazing meals in Kyushu there during our 2 night stays. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional...
Extremely beautiful hotel with stunning views of Beppu. The design is sleek and modern, with unique artworks placed throughout the property. Our room had a private onsen bath overlooking the city—absolutely gorgeous—and the balcony was just as stunning.

This is an absolutely gorgeous hotel that offers a truly luxurious and private experience. The rooms are large, spacious, and feature a stunning in-room onsen, which was an absolute highlight. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. It might be my favourite place I've ever stayed.
The building itself is absolutely stunning. We probably spent an hour just walking around taking pictures. Such a cool space and a fantastic view of Beppu and the sea. So relaxing to watch the view change as the sun sets. Great sunrise from the balcony too if you wake up early.

Lovely ryokan in Beppu, room is very spacious with western or japanese style beds to choose as sleeping option in the room. Sound of waterfall from room terrace is very relaxing. Onsen is very soothing
The staff were attentive and attentive. The room was a private Japanese-style garden room, fully and meticulously furnished. The hot spring water (described as originating from a gold vein) felt wonderful. There is a shuttle bus to and from Beppu Station (reservations required), the journey takes about five minutes, which is very convenient.
The environment and service are very good, but the hardware facilities are really not good. The public hot spring is outdoors and looks like a wild hot spring. The private hot spring is outdoors. This was my first time staying here. The parking lot in front of the hotel was full, so I asked a staff member and they kindly directed me to the second parking lot.

If I'm solely going for a hot spring experience, I'd definitely choose this place again; the water quality is excellent. The breakfast offers a good variety, and the taste is decent. It's a bit far from the city center, but a 100 RMB taxi ride usually covers most dining spots.

Pick up from the Beppu station was punctual and drop off after check out to station makes travel relaxing. Room was extremely spacious and environment was tranquil. I genuinely enjoyed most of my stay at this hotel and was quite happy with the trip—until the moment I checked out. The customer service I received at the front desk was shockingly poor and completely overshadowed what had otherwise been a pleasant visit.

The place was decent and overall better than expected.
It takes 12 minutes to walk from Oita Station. There is a Gasto fast food restaurant and FM convenience store near the hotel. The hotel facilities are relatively old. The bathroom is slightly higher than the room, so be careful. The free breakfast bento is frozen and tastes average.
Good location, near to the train station, near restaurant and convenient store
There is no soundproofing at all, such as the sound of water in the hotel, and the toilet space is too small, making it inconvenient to wash. In a word, naver again

Awesome service as expected from a Japanese Ryokan.
There was a lot of food and it was delicious. The sake was great as well with a fruity flavor.
To take a shower you do need to use the familiar public onsen once available but still a great experience
The public bath for day trips is 500 yen. 11:00-16:00 Shampoo and conditioner available. Towels can be borrowed for free. A hair dryer is also provided. Family bath is 2000 yen.

Very good onsen hotel with great food and hospitality. We have enjoyed the stay and plan to go back soon.
It's a historic hotel with a hot spring culture. Located on a mountain, it's inaccessible by public transportation; a taxi from the station costs around 100 RMB, but calling a taxi is convenient. The staff were incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, proactively helping with our luggage. The hotel facilities are excellent, and the private onsens offer a high degree of privacy. Each onsen also has its own unique character and is not crowded. I highly recommend the Yakushi-no-Yu.

I was solo traveling and don’t speak Japanese, but the staff was amazing and made everything easy for me! The dinner and breakfast were very good too and I enjoyed the private bath as well. I would definitely stay here again!
It was a very pleasant inn. The view from the entrance was great, and although I had a room facing the mountains, I could see the view from the entrance whenever I wanted. I also enjoyed the night view from the entrance while eating ice cream after taking a bath in the hot spring. The food was also very good, and I was satisfied with both the appearance and the taste.
It was fantastic and so comfortable. The only mistake I made here was not booking another night.
Definitely book the set meal that includes breakfast and dinner!! You'll be stuffed, with everything from sashimi to hot pot. The dinner drinks are also reasonably priced. Great services, great accommodation
The hotel is located halfway up the mountain, so it's more convenient if you're driving. We booked breakfast and dinner, and the food was absolutely amazing; you definitely have to try it if you stay here. My favorite part was the private hot spring in the room. I'd come back again if I get the chance.
The location is pretty good because it’s private. It’s suit for guest comes with the car. About 15 mins drive to downtown.
The room was big with private onsen, clean and simple.
The facility is only the public onsen, which is indoor with no view. The breakfast is quite basic, the taste could be more outstanding.
I stayed here in 2024 and had a great experience! This time, however, it was a bit disappointing. The facilities are starting to show their age. The food quality is excellent (half-board with dinner and breakfast). The private onsen in the room is definitely a highlight.

Good service, delicious food, convenient location
location is not ideal without personal transport, have to arrange private pick up or taxi from train station. Room has private onsen but it's not comfortable or inviting as it's a bath tub... not your typical outdoor- pool like tub , so a little disappointing.
food was well presented and tasty. Nothing to offer in the neighbourhood.... so practically, sleep, bath and depart
The hotel location is chosen to be less beautiful on the residential side, the room lighting and layout is darker and old not beautiful enough, one night two meals is very good, if you can bring your own alcoholic beverages is even better, service attitude is good but can still have greater room for improvement,

Having a private onsen in your room is awesome! But the hotel itself is in dire need of renovation. The floors in the room are scuffed. The wallpaper in the hallway is peeling. And the shower glass is caked with film. This can definitely be cleaned, but alas. Breakfast and dinner are delicious, but very long. Dinner lasts about two hours, with very long breaks between courses.
Unfortunately the room was super moldy and it was ruining the experience. We stayed there for two days. The first day, the dinner was delicious and so was the breakfast but the second day, the food was not as great and the breakfast was served as a Western style, was much less in portion compared to the first day.

I think the hotel would get a higher rating if the toilets had at least a bidet. I'd even be willing to pay a bit more for that. It's close to the station and offers great value for money.
Nicely located hotel with free Onsen. The rooms are fairly old and mine was once a smoker friendly room, which explains the slight smell of cigarettes and the yellowish walls. It is great that the hotel is located directly in front of the main station, but be aware of outside noise.
I still slept like a stone so for the price I can recommend it.
The staff were super helpful. I had lost my watch the day before and they called around the places that I had visited the day before to ask them for me.
It's a little bit of an older hotel but if you're travelling solo and cheap I don't think you can complain about this price.
Good emplacement near the station, hotel OK relatively clean. Good point is the free parking. And you can enjoy a good breakfast and great onsen with the hotel just on the other side of the street
