Matsuyama City Hotel in Matsuyama

Second time I stay there, very functional and near the station.

Clean room, nice environment

The hotel is great value for money, located right in front of Otemachi Station, and only a 5-minute walk from Matsuyama Station. The check-in receptionist was very friendly and made me feel very warm. Unfortunately, the lack of ventilation on each floor made it incredibly hot and stuffy. Even returning to the room at night, probably due to the western sun, it felt like a steamer. Even the peanut chocolate I'd packed in my suitcase had melted into liquid.

The hotel is conveniently located, just a 10-minute walk from Shin-Matsuyama Station, past the old station. Nearby options include McDonald's, ramen, udon, and donburi. It's also close to the city's train system (essential for getting to Dogo Onsen and Matsuyama Castle). The biggest issue was the hotel elevator, and even the room, which had a musty smell. Luckily, I brought some toilet water, originally for mosquito repellent, which helped significantly. I also sprayed the bed with AQ spray before I could sleep peacefully. However, there's no power switch or USB power supply at the bedside, so you need a long enough cable to use your phone or tablet in bed. The hotel's Wi-Fi connection was completely unavailable, and I even forgot to provide the password slip on my first day. I searched the room for documents, but there was nothing there! The luggage storage area was small, so I had to abandon the desk for my suitcase and use the space for daily necessities. It felt like I was time-traveling back to a hotel I'd stayed in twenty years ago. The room was reasonably clean, but the towels were dark blue and very stiff, so I had to use the spare disposable towels I brought with me (I'll always bring them on future trips, as I might need them).
The rest of the design was quite neat, even the area between the bathtub and the sink was spotless.
For breakfast, you can go to a 7-11 or a store inside Matsuyama Station; otherwise, you'll have to go to a tourist attraction to get breakfast.

I booked this hotel at short notice and was worried as the reviews on other sites were not very good, but my fears turned out to be unfounded.
The front desk feels a little old-fashioned, but the staff are very friendly and were helpful even when I went out late at night.
I stayed on the 8th floor, and the room was just retro-style but was clean everywhere.
I don't know if some of the rooms have not been renovated, but it was a wonderful night's stay, so I hope this information is helpful.

The latest check-in is at 11pm. Fortunately, the hotel is very close to the airport. You can take the Airport Line bus and walk to JR Matsuyama Station in five minutes. The front desk staff is very friendly. Although they may not speak English very well, they still try their best to express the message they want to convey, which is commendable!

Due to a train accident, we had to check in after the concert instead of before.
It was after 9:30pm.
Air conditioning, TV and Wi-Fi were available.
The price was reasonable and it was great.

I stayed here for a trip to Dogo Onsen. The tatami room has a unique charm. The room was also spacious. I think it would be good for families to stay together.
After checking out, they took care of my luggage and were very kind.
I left my cell phone behind, but the owner and staff ran out to find it for me, so I was very grateful.

It's enough if you just want to sleep! The location is good so it's easy to go sightseeing.
However, it was a hassle to leave the key every time I went out, but I guess that can't be helped.
