Reviews
The pictures make it look modern and welcoming, but the actual conditions of the hostel are terrible. Most guests are long-term local residents who treat the dorm like a cheap rental apartment rather than a hostel for travelers.
The management is very friedly, although highly incompetent and does little to maintain even very basic standards that actually matter. This includes overbooking of the dorms, cluttered common areas, rubbish bins that are overflowing, and poor hygiene throughout the property.
My biggest concern was that the front door was locked at night with no possibly to open - which I only found out when leaving at 2am to catch a plane. I needed to text/call the staff to unlock the door. The door is next to the check in counter, but thr staff is rarely there. This is a major hazard and would trap people in case of fire as the door also functions as the primary emergency exit. This alone is a major red flag for this accommodation.
The Wi-Fi was slow, so don't depend on it to upload photos and videos.
The bathroom situation was unacceptable. Out of five shoer/toilet combos, at times only two were working, which caused queues. Although there is a "bum gun" installed, toilet paper was often missing and no staff could be found anywhere to provide more. Hot water for the shower and sink was not always available, even after prolonged rinsing of the pipes.
This is not a proper backpacker hostel where you can meet international travelers. It is a chaotic long-stay dorm with questionable hygiene, broken facilities, and ineffective management.
Book an alternative accommodation.
This place looks beautiful and modern in the pictures: nice public areas, clean-looking common spaces, and friendly, patient staff at the front desk. It tricks you into thinking “this must be a decent youth hostel for backpackers.”
In reality, it’s the worst “hostel” experience I had in over five months of backpacking.
This is not an international backpacker place for meeting people and socializing. It’s basically a cheap long-term local rental apartment + chaotic dorm hybrid.
Most guests are local long-term residents who treat the place like their own home.
* Hygiene is terrible: corridors and common areas are constantly cluttered with random stuff.
* Heavy smelly room, they don’t like take showers and smelly clothes&shoes, what’s more cigarette smell (even though smoking isn’t allowed indoors — they just come back reeking of smoke).
* Completely reversed sleep schedules: during the day the whole floor is dead silent (everyone sleeping), but from 10 PM until 4–5 AM people are sitting at desks watching movies, gaming, browsing, and chatting.
* Even worse: some people set extremely loud alarms in the morning but either sleep through them or can’t be bothered to turn them off. The alarm just rings non-stop for up to an hour.
On February 19, 2026, I finally snapped. Around 8 a.m. an alarm had been blaring for nearly 20 minutes straight. The guy (a local Kazakh man) had been up until 5 a.m. the night before watching movies at the desk instead of sleeping in his bed.
I got up, opened the curtain to wake him and angrily said something like: “If you can’t get up, don’t set an alarm that wakes the whole room.”
We exchanged a few insults. Instead of apologizing, he got furious, jumped out of bed, pushed me hard, knocked me back onto the bed, and squared up like he wanted to fight.
The absurdity: he was the one with zero consideration and disturbing everyone, yet he acted like he was the victim for being woken up.
Management seems to allow these long-term locals to stay without any filtering. Short-term travelers (especially foreigners) end up feeling like outsiders who have to adapt to their chaotic lifestyle and schedules.
(By the way, the low-quality local guy is in Room 3, bed 20. He seems to be a long-term resident — avoid Room 3 if possible.)
To repeat: if you’re a short-term traveler or foreigner, do not let the nice photos fool you. This is not a proper youth hostel for international backpackers.
It’s a low-budget local long-stay chaos dorm. Pay a bit more and stay somewhere else — it’s not worth ruining your trip, your mood, and your sleep.
(Yes, the reception staff are genuinely nice and helpful — but that cannot make up for the disastrous living environment.)
Hope this review saves someone else from the same terrible experience.
- st
— the hostel is next to Dostyk Mall which is very convinient
— the beds look new and quite comfortable to sleep on.
NEGATIVES
— They turn off the A/C during summer and refused to keep it open
— There are many long-term stays who are very disorganized in the rooms, personal luggages even thick coats lying around.
— I would not recommend this place especially in summers
Apart from that it was an unpleasant stay.
- Some people where living long term in the dorms and behaving very very disrespectful (turning on the big light several times in the middle of the night, starting loud phone calls at 1am, watching loud tiktoks in the nighttime, just generelly being very loud, doing stuff in the dormitory at night and not caring about other people sleeping).
Staff did not help in these situations.
- 6/6 days here the wifi did not work in the dormitory and nobody cared about getting it fixed quickly
- several toilets constantly lacked soap and toilet paper
- for the first two days there was free drinking water offered and afterwards they just deinstalled the mashine to safe money
- did not even offer free coffee
- not kitchen to prepare food
Definetly wouldn't stay here again and cannot recommend.
Staff seem friendly but not sincere
It’s relatively clean (although they didn’t clean the room where I was staying for 3 days)
Drinking water and tea is available
No hot water, I’ve stayed for 6 nights - not a single shower was even warm
AC has water running out of it so there is always a bucket underneath it and you hear annoying sound of drops hitting the bucket all the time
Very loud, some guests are disrespectful turning on big lights, watching videos, reels without headphones and talking on the phone inside the room in the middle of the night - staff were no help in those situations
And there is no hostel atmosphere, almost no travellers, just people who live there for a long time like a few months and some of them behave like it’s their own place.
And such things should be prevented by the staff but the staff sometimes don’t follow the rules themselves - one night I was woken up at 2a.m. by administrator and her kids that she had brought at work yelling.
