The lobby has that old-school charm, more vintage casino than modern poker room - elegant, but doesn’t exactly match the tech-forward setup of room keys stored in safeboxes. Still, it works. Communication through WhatsApp is fast and efficient - their customer service clearly knows how to play their cards right.
I initially drew a bad hand with a room that had no electricity, but the staff reshuffled quickly - I got a new room code within minutes. That kind of response time is like hitting your flush on the river.
The standard room might be showing its age, but for under €50 a night, it’s a value bet that pays off. You get all the essentials - TV, air conditioning, safe, kettle - the kind of tools that keep you comfortably in the game.

We arrived late in the evening and were given a room that had not been cleaned. The next room had mold. When I stayed here in the summer, I experienced the same issue. I walked into the room and there was significant mold present. Very uncomfortable stay, and I do not recommend this place.

The hotel is supposed to be four stars but has no reception desk, no bar, the beds are incredibly saggy and old with only one pillow that is awful.

I stayed at the hotel for two nights, and breakfast, which costs 12 euros, was supposed to be included. When I arrived at breakfast at 8 AM, everything was already gone. The only things available were bread and butter. I asked if more food could be prepared, but I was told that nothing could be done at the moment and that I should just accept it.
The rooms were dirty, the toilet didn’t work, and the blankets had blood stains on them. I found clean bedding myself and changed it. Overall, it was a very bad experience, and I will not be coming back.

After staying here for 3 nights, I still don’t know how they get the 4 stars.
I didn’t believe the comment and now I’m regretting it. So, please trust me, this hotel is NOT a good choice.
- this is a very old hotel, so the carpet, the bed, the closet, everything is old.
- there’s only motion sensor lights in the corridor, but it’s so not sensitive. As there’s no window no sunlight in the corridor, it is always dark as hell and feels like in an haunted house. As a solo traveller, I felt scared.
- oh the bathroom…I had to wait for about 7 mins to have stable warm water. Yes, just warm, not hot.
- location is so not convenient, it’s off from the centre, and it takes around 25 mins walk to the old town, bit waste of time and energy for tourist. There’s also no good restaurants nearby.
- self check in can be convenient. But the system is strictly allowed check in at 15:00 sharply. If you come at 14:59, still a no no.
Still, there’re some good things: have elevator, spacious bathroom.
My advice is: pay more and choose a better hotel near the city centre, this hotel is not your choice apparently.

I recently stayed at the Rixwell Gertrude Hotel, which is apparently a 4-star property—well, maybe it was in 1950. The staff, I must say, were very good and probably the best part of the stay. But the room? It felt like a time capsule from decades ago. The bed's upholstery was so old it could have been an antique, and the curtains looked like they’d seen more sunsets than I have. The air conditioning was about as noisy as a tractor, so that was fun trying to sleep through. And the Wi-Fi? Let’s just say it was more of a suggestion than a service. But hey, the breakfast was decent, and the hotel is in a lovely location, so at least I had something to look forward to in the morning. If you’re into vintage charm, this place might be for you, but I’d recommend bringing earplugs and your own hotspot.

The hotel was worn out. Bathroom’s were untidy, there was mold on our bathroom ceiling and the curtains had stains.
