Reviews
The hotel has failed in many areas and levels.
Service: they don’t replenish amenities; rooms are not cleaned on time so that I have to get out of my room so they can clean it in the late afternoon/evening.
There’s poor communication between the reception and other departments. I waited 45 mins for a buggy to take me to the place where my taxi was waiting. I wasted an hour of my precious time which I had hoped to spend touring.
I booked a boathouse activity on the first day I arrived. I arranged to be back before 2pm for the activity but it was cancelled and I wasn’t informed. I could have spent more time outside on my tour than to rush back only to be told it’s cancelled.
The next day the lady at the reception actually told me to walk over to the boathouse and place my booking? Would you ask your guest to wake up at 9am and make a booking for the afternoon by themselves when there’s a modern invention called a mobile phone where she can call the boathouse and make the booking for me?
On the last day when I actually managed to get it booked for 2pm through the reception and went I went there my booking wasn’t there. I went half an hour earlier just to be on time. The boat had left with someone else. I was then told the activity can be done at 230. I waited till 250pm.
Food hygiene: if you prefer your food to be clean and hygienic, avoid the buffet. I saw the chef taking the pastries with his bare hands and placing them on the tray: I saw birds eating off a food item tray when it should have been covered; there were flies at the fresh juice jugs ; there were many items which were not covered so the birds had a feast.
As it was my birthday I had already arranged with the hotel for something special at dinner. They confirmed there’ll be a birthday cake offered .
When I finished my dinner, I ordered a drink and waited for my “surprise” but it never came. So almost 20 mins later I had to remind them that there was a “surprise birthday cake”. But what they brought over was a regular chocolate muffin. No wording, no candle. I was surprised to say the least. I finished the muffin and drink and went to pay. They never cease to amaze me - they charged for my complimentary birthday cake. I had to remind them and then they took the charge out.
When I was leaving, one of the waiters said there was birthday cake for me!! I didnt know what to say. If there was a comp birthday cake, why would I order one? Why didn’t they bring it over?needless to say it was such a letdown and I had to mood nor appetite to eat the cake.
Lack of initiative and service spirit:
Thee was once I asked for tissue paper (because they didn’t replenish). They took 30-40 mins to bring over and I wasn’t surprised they got the order wrong. They brought toilet paper instead of tissue paper. I told him I can’t wait up so I asked him to place it outside my door as it was getting late.
On another occasion I asked for hot
Milk to use with the coffee pod which they gave as a complimentary thing, but the milk was cold so I asked for hot milk to go with that. the lady who answered took almost 20 minutes to make a decision that I will have hot milk. How much effort does it take to make the decision to send it over? after telling me 20 minutes later, they took another half an hour to bring the hot milk.
These are just some of the issues I faced. As it was my birthday trip I have tolerated it and not get affected.
It spoilt my trip to Mauritius. Needless to say So Sofitel won’t be on my recommended list of hotels if my friends are planning a trip there.
Advice from a person who is honest with themselves before being honest with you.
Never go there.
The only thing they excel at is the beach.
First of all, the hotel is quite large, and the distance from each room to the effective service area is quite far. The hotel needs to send an electric car to transfer. This electric car is very psychedelic, sometimes very fast, sometimes very slow, and it is impossible to control the time reasonably.
The hotel's breakfast is also mediocre. It is probably more like an English breakfast, but the food is not very good, especially for Chinese stomachs. Overall, it is much lower than psychological expectations.
There was a power outage at night, and it took about half an hour to recover.
Friends who drive themselves can use it as a transition to the south, but it is not recommended as a long-term residence.
Fortunately the shower was hot and the bed very comfortable.
This place needs a great deal of money spent on it to make this 5*.
The plastic sheeting as a wind protection in La Plage needs to go and bifold doors or patio doors or see through roller blinds,as many people thought it to be old and tired. This actually spoilt any view.
I'm afraid I wouldn't return as it doesn't compare to other 5* hotels I've stayed in.
All the other guests, as well as myself couldn't understand the silly green bed surrounds. They prevent you getting into bed as they move. They need to go and replaced with bedside tables. That would help the appearance of the bedrooms as nobody likes them.
All the other guests that I spoke to said they were upset at the lack of interesting entertainment. The lack of a dance floor. Nobody wanted a disco. Many guests said they felt the photos advertised showed the resort in the best possible light.
The swimming pool is a joke. Three people in there is too many.
The staff, the bed, the shower, the scenery , and the food were a saving grace. I think if this wasn't the case you would have had a number of complaints.
I have been completely honest. Please remove the silly bed surrounds and put bedside tables. This was a talking point with all the other guests I spoke to.
I have been totally honest and feel upset to be so frank when all the staff and management were super helpful, professional and kind.
