Riad Salam Fes in Fes

I rarely write negative reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I feel obligated to warn other travelers. Before departing the property, I requested to speak directly with the hotel owner or general manager about the serious issues we encountered but no one was available. The manager that assisted us upon encountering the issues with our room upon arrival, acknowledged the problems, apologized. When I requested to speak with the Owner and General Manager, but none was on-site, and I was instead given contact information to follow up afterward. Unfortunately, our stay was severely compromised by multiple failures: Cleanliness: The bed sheets in our room were visibly stained. The manager personally inspected them and agreed they were unacceptable. Even more concerning, the replacement sheets staff brought were also dirty. Delays & Poor Communication: We were told we’d be moved rooms but were left waiting over an hour, repeatedly calling the front desk for updates after a long day of travel. Overpowering Odor: Both our original room and the “upgraded” room had an excessive artificial fragrance that made it uncomfortable to breathe and smelled really horrible and excessively strong. Noise Issues: Our room overlooked the courtyard restaurant area. Around 11pm guests were loudly talking, laughing, and drinking at the hotel's restaurant which was very disturbing and interupted our attempt to sleep and rest as we needed to wake up at 5am. We reported it immediately, but nothing was done, and we were unable to sleep so we left the room and hotel. Unanswered Calls: Calls to the front desk often went unanswered unless we called multiple times to report the issues with the room and the constant noise. Food Quality: The meal we ordered reflected the same lack of care and attention evident throughout our stay when they served us bitter, cold black tea upon arrival and check in. Although we were later offered an upgrade to the Royal Suite, it did not resolve the underlying problems. The issues were not about room category — they were about cleanliness, service, and basic hospitality standards. We couldn’t unpack, rest, or enjoy our honeymoon, and ultimately had to leave and checkout earlier than planned. Our expectations are to receive a refund for the one night room stay and speak with the owner. We were advised the refund would be processed by the front desk staff, but was not. The general manager says that the owner does not speak English - so how am I to communicate? Overall: This stay fell far below reasonable expectations. The combination of hygiene concerns, poor service, noise disturbances, and lack of responsiveness made for a stressful and uncomfortable experience rather than a relaxing one. I would strongly advise future travelers to carefully consider other options when visiting Fez. There are MANY more options that are much better and deserving of your hard earned money.

Although visually beautiful, the customer service is awful. We booked three nights as we travel through Morocco. This is pretty much the last leg of a 12 day trip. We have one more night at this Riad and I’ve been complaining from day one. Several issues: room service ordered - food delivered uncovered, cold, without silverware, or utensils. The rooms are cold - despite running the heat for two hours, and two service calls. By 3:00 am the room finally warmed up. Maid service - by 3:15 pm the room had not been cleaned. I complained and they arrived w/in 10 minutes to only make up the bed, change towels and empty the trash. The floor wasn’t cleaned, rugs vacuumed nor was bathroom/shower/toilets properly cleaned. This really has been an awful experience. Was going to check out this morning and move to another hotel, but I’m traveling with three other individuals and although they weren’t happy, felt it best and easier to just “tough it out.” As I type, waiting for the Riad manager to call me.
