Hotel Macià Monasterio de Los Basilios in Granada

The hotel is housed in a former monastery; the complex includes a church with an active congregation, and next to it, on the same grounds, is a school with various sports facilities used daily by the school and presumably also by clubs – yet there was no significant noise disturbance, neither in the mornings nor in the evenings. The hotel building's interior has been rather blandly renovated, and the large courtyard could definitely be improved and better integrated. Our double room was unfortunately very small; as we noticed while walking along the corridors, there were numerous much more spacious rooms, not all of which were occupied. The owner should offer these larger rooms first and only resort to the smaller ones when there is sufficient occupancy. We must also confirm that the bathroom smelled a bit musty.

The staff at reception were taciturn but friendly, while the staff in the breakfast room were somewhat less so. However, the breakfast buffet was by far the most extensive we encountered during our entire trip to Andalusia – there really was something for everyone.

Parking is available in a nearby underground garage, which likely belongs to the church complex and can be paid for directly at the hotel reception; no reservation is necessary.

From the hotel, Granada's old town is easily explored on foot; those who wish can also walk up to the Alhambra. For a small fee, however, there is also a bus that passes by the foot of the hill every few minutes, and the bus stop is a pleasant 10-minute walk through a park.

Brilliant location, close to all interesting sites.  Only disappointment was the cooked breakfast I.e scrambled eggs/bacon etc were not very warm, which was a shame because there was plenty of it.  Everything else was great.

This hotel is a converted monastery, so it might be a bit old, but it has a really great atmosphere! The staff at the front desk were also very friendly! The only downside is that the parking lot is a bit far; you have to walk for about 10 minutes with your luggage 😅 If you're staying here, I suggest getting out of your car on the main road in front of the entrance to drop off your luggage first, because the entrance isn't on the roadside, it's about 50 meters inside. Other than that, there's nothing wrong with it! A very beautiful hotel!

Rooms are nice but a bit on the small side. Located next to elementary school, so noise can be an issue. Overall good, not great.

I highly recommend this place for its friendly service and excellent value. However, please note one essential point and one drawback. The essential point is that you must book a room with a terrace to fully appreciate its charm. The drawback, of course, only applies to those traveling by car: there's no parking. There's a good parking spot within five minutes, but as of November 2025, it costs 24 EUR per night. By the way, most accommodations in Spain don't have coffee pots, so don't panic if they don't.

I highly recommend the units with terraces.
1. The hotel is a converted old monastery, so the layout is very beautiful and elegant. The surrounding corridors and tiled design, with a small courtyard with orange trees in the center, are very unique.
2. The terrace is large, offering views of the distant mountains and the lights at night. Below is the playground of a primary and secondary school, where you can see children playing and attending classes, and the rush to get to school in the morning, almost being late. It's a very lively atmosphere.
3. The restaurant downstairs is very popular and packed from morning to night. I had dinner there one night, and it was indeed delicious and reasonably priced. I highly recommend it.
4. The walk to the cathedral takes about 15-20 minutes, and you can stroll along the way, which is not boring. However, it is a bit far from the cathedral center, but we thought it was fine.
5. A taxi to the Alhambra costs about 10 euros, and the 30 bus back is also very convenient.
6. The breakfast is highly recommended. While European cuisine can't compare to that in China, and overall it doesn't need to be compared to five-star hotels, the drinks, eggs, sausages, various breads, and fresh fruits and vegetables are plentiful and satisfying. There is also elegant music accompanying the whole process. The restaurant is tall, bright, clean, and replenished in time. It is highly recommended

The hotel has a great location, next to a school and popular restaurants, and close to the old town—just across a bridge. Public transportation to tourist attractions is also convenient, with a bus stop right outside the hotel.

The monastery itself is quite tranquil and pleasant, but the facilities are a bit dated. The bedding is rather basic, feeling thin and firm, and the bathroom is small, typical of a small budget hotel in China.

The hotel is in a romantic part of town. Great place to walk around after the sun goes down. The hotel itself was good, the room was clean and well equipped with everything you need for the night. You were given earplugs which was good even if you didn't need them. The old man at the reception is nice but a bit stiff. The atmosphere is fantastic, you can almost see the nuns walking in the corridors in front of you.
