HC Hotel Magec in Puerto de la Cruz

Where do I start?? I have no words other than DO NOT book to stay here unless u like being treated like utter crap and having your drink thrown over u from the bar man, Absolutely disgusting services paid for all inclusive and we have had to eat out everyday spending more money reception fob u off saying u have to wait for manager to come in which she never does Rooms are a disgrace nothing like wot is advertised on the website what so ever Never been 4* hotel if I could rate this 0* I would. Avoid at all costs to save ur money

Got a smelly room on the 7th floor on the first night moved to the 5th floor where people were screaming off their balcony @2am and got bites all over my legs. I complained to loveholidays and there response was just because I never told the hotel about the bedbugs there not libial avoid at all costs

The hotel is advertised as 4* however I've no idea how as the hotel is absolutely awful, there's nothing 4* about it whatsoever and when we arrived the room we were allocated was horrible and the AC didn’t work. Asked to be moved rooms but was told they'd fix the AC the next day (which they did in fairness) however the AC control unit was ancient and clearly not fit for purpose and when I complained about the bed being hard and uncomfortable I was told "well it is an old hotel" so I replied "Its advertised as a 4*" but was then told "yes but its being done up next year" and I asked "so how does that help me here now?"... in any case we'd originally booked All Inclusive at the HC Magec for 5 nights for our 10yr anniversary so we genuinely gave it a fair go but the food was abysmal and the drinks were pathetic including the soft drinks which broke down on day 2 at the rooftop bar and we were told we would need to go all the way to the bar on the ground floor for soft drinks which was completely unacceptable and a fair cry from being anything remotely close to the 4* standard anyone would expect! After a 2nd night sleeping on a lumpy old bed we decided to spend an additional £234 and book into the amazing 4* hotel literally across the street called Hotel AF Valle Orotava which was every bit the 4* hotel we'd expected with high quality rooms, beds, food and services and we spent the last 3 nights of r 10yr anniversary holiday enjoying some proper 4* accommodation however when we asked if we checked out of HC Magec could we get refunded for the remaining 3 nights I was told at reception that they don't do refunds so we decided not to check out until the last day so that the hotel couldn't sell the room on. The fact that we spoke to countless other people staying in the HC Magec who were also furious about the 4* rating it advertises and the many complaints I heard speaks volumes of how poorly people there thought of it and as 1 person I spoke to who works in hotels back home put it "I'm surprised this hotel has any stars as I've seen better hostels" which just about sums up how absolutely horrendous this supposedly 4* hotel actually is... I personally will never be back in it again thankfully as its truly awful in every single regard!

Booked through loveholidays who advertised a swim up bar and animation neither of these exist. All inclusive Food is of poor quality and afternoon snacks are avaiable if you can get to the counter before they are gone. Rooms are basic and cleaned daily. The cleaner is nice and friendly. Hotel toilets backed up and wiffy. I would put this at a 2 star hotel and not the 4 stars on the hotel sign. Another customer obviously thinks the same as a label has been put over 2 of the stars. Nicer hotels can be found at the same price as this one so do your research.

Terrible stay. Nothing as it seems in the photographs. No sauna or spa, no indoor pool (which love holidays have edited now)no kids things or activities. Music on one night , terrible singer who let the locals sing. Pillow filled with urine smelling loose stuffing I had to ask the cleaner to take it. Cleaners very friendly and the happiest staff in hotel. You’re lucky if you get a smile from the bar staff past 6pm. Even was shouted at and shooed away 20 mins before close time at one point so they could close early. Football sounds on for local instead of music for the guests who are told ‘music in the bar in the evenings’ Food was a disaster, cheese on toast was the only thing edible for breakfast and I made that myself. Everything either over or under cooked. Some food is the same at what they served the night before and tastes like it’s been there over night. Pool freezing cold even life guard said they wouldn’t be getting in they will throw the ring in Snacks on the roof are warm sandwiches taken by people who aren’t even inclusive. All inclusive is 11-11. No alcohol before 11 although the bar is open and serving the public. All inclusive aren’t allowed a large beer or gin glasses. One type of glass only unless paying. One cocktail per day for all inclusive and they aren’t containing much alcohol. Have to pay for coffees on the rooftop. Got stuck in the lift at one point and reception said ‘oh yes because it’s broken’ no signs up. 2 positives to this stay, the sun and the area. The hotel over the road looks lovely though and same owner
