Tamarind Hill by Asia Leisure in Galle

Our stay at Tamarind Hill was a masterclass in how to ruin a guest's experience through dishonesty and poor leadership. While the property is beautiful and the food was actually quite good, the management is a disgrace to Sri Lankan hospitality. The Lying "Policy": We arrived with a baby and were told our room wasn't ready. They hid behind a "check-in policy" time, repeatedly claiming the room was still being prepared. However, it was blatantly obvious the room was ready. When we finally confronted them with the facts, the management was left speechless. They had no excuse for their dishonesty. To force a family with an infant to wait in the lobby based on a lie is not "policy"—it is a total lack of empathy and basic service orientation. Leadership Resting on Laurels: The disconnect here is staggering: • The Staff: The junior staff were clearly trying to be helpful and make things happen, but you could see they were discouraged and compelled to stall us by a management team that prefers to stay "confined to their rooms" rather than face guests. • The Dinner Delay: Despite pre-ordering our meal 6 hours in advance, dinner was served over an hour late. This is a pure failure of coordination from the top down. • The Local Experience: There is a clear lack of priority for local guests. We were made to feel unwelcome, as if our business mattered less than others. Verdict: I worry for the future of Sri Lankan hospitality if this is the standard at a "luxury" boutique hotel. The kitchen has talent and the junior staff have the right heart, but they are being sabotaged by a management team that lacks experience, lacks integrity, and is content to rest on their laurels.
