Well, what a trip down memory lane...this place had charm and fascinating decor, but was somewhat old and 'creaky'. It was delightful in its quirkiness, the stairs to the snooker room are challenging but worth it, the creaking floor boards under the thin carpet had a certain charm, but the toilet not flushing was a bit of a bummer. Breakfast was delightful, and very welcome, the dining room and staff emitting a real sense of charm. The surprise for me was the proximity to Nuwara Eliya Golf Course. Even if you don't play, I'd recommend a Club Sandwich at the club house on the verandah, and a look through the rooms adjacent. They make a great martini as well. The Hotel Glendowner is within easy walking distance. There are other more upmarket hotels in the area, but this one was quaint.

Hotel is nestled between 2 large hotels conveniently located and haa the old world charm. The service was decent but being an old building a bit of modernisation wont go astray

We were lucky enough to stay in the Glendower Hotel during the Ditwah cyclone of late November 2025, the most devastating storm to hit the area since 1947. For days there was no public transport, no internet no ATMs or card payment and no escape from the conditions. The staff were ALL endlessly kind and helpful to us; from cleaning staff to management I offer my sincere thanks. They too suffered from being unable to contact loved ones during the emergency but continued to provide an excellent service. We loved the hotel. It is full of colonial-style charm and elegance with beautiful gardens, a very convenient location but most importantly the professionalism of the small but dedicated staff. We thoroughly recommend The Glendower Hotel!

The very kind and friendly hotel staff even offered us a room upgrade, so we enjoyed more luxury than we had hoped for. We were welcomed with delicious cinnamon tea and warm towels. Since it’s much cooler here than in other parts of Sri Lanka, the hot towels felt especially comforting. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and a water kettle was provided. The bed and sheets were the most comfortable we’ve had during our entire trip. The night before, we were asked which type of breakfast we preferred, and we chose the Sri Lankan breakfast. It was amazing — a perfect combination of a high-class hotel breakfast and a traditional Sri Lankan selection of dishes. As we were the only guests having breakfast early in the morning, Sharat offered us a personal, butler-like service. Our whole stay was an unforgettable experience for us backpackers, and we were truly treated like royalty.

This is a wonderful, welcoming hotel. Special thanks to the staff - Benedict and Laxmi - and manger Duminda, who immediately made me feel at home. The rooms are spacious, clean, and exude a rustic, lived in charm. I will gladly return on future visits!

Excellent service, great food and the staff went above and beyond. Special thanks to Benedict who made our visit a real pleasure! So much so we went back the next day. Lovely garden to sit outside. Fabulous tea - very worthwhile and would definitely recommend this hotel!

They have English breakfast and a pub, and the staff are very friendly. The rooms are old, but the cleaning is very good. There is a nice garden, and the price was reasonable, so I would have liked to stay another night.
