The Surfer in Weligama

Great place to stay and progress your surfing skills. I did the full surf package and advanced through the week from beginner class on the beach break to surfing the reef break. Like anywhere, some instructors are better than others. My favorite sessions were with Sohan at the reef. He clearly cares about student safety and is very focused on the students. I appreciate the almost-daily video analysis sessions included so that I get some videos to save for free. The food at camp was good. It was very social with shared meals and outings, everyone I met was nice and chill. The location of the camp is about 30 minutes walk on the beach east from the center of Weligama which is nice to avoid some noise and crowds on the beach. One main area for improvement is that the surfboards have clearly been heavily used with dents, visible repairs and damage, so it would be nice if the boards could be upgraded.

The service during breakfast and a la card could have been improved, since the food arrived very random but otherwise everything was perfect! Can really recommend:)

Great place for beginners! The camp is right next to the beach and the instructors and staff were lovely during the week we stayed here. Bunny has great technical knowledge of the sport and tell you how to improve :)
Rooms are nice and the pool area was a great place to chill. The common area on the third floor where you have dinner was also great. While there was no wifi in the rooms, it‘s a nice excuse to socialise with the other guests. Special dinners/buffets were amazing and the evening events were a lot of fun (karaoke, going out to parties, happy hour, etc)
Can and definitely will recommend this place!

I LOVEEEEEEEEEEED my week here. I made amazing friends and had so much fun.
It's the perfect camp for beginners. Maybe not so good for intermediate/advanced surfers. I really liked all the instructors, but I have to say Peter was incredible teaching us. Nadiv and Bonnie were also great, I couldn't stop laughing at all the shouts of "paddle, my dear" (I hope they never change, they are unique).

I stayed in a private room, everything was fine except for the Wi-Fi, which never worked.

Breakfast was good, but dinner sometimes not that much.

I highly recommend this place. I hope to be able to come back someday. I already miss it!

P.s. - I loved the cat and especially Dalia, the dog 😍

I stayed at this surf camp for 7 days and had a really good overall experience. By the end of my stay, I was able to surf white waves on my own, which felt like a big achievement. The instructors are skilled, patient, and genuinely supportive, and the staff overall are warm and welcoming.

The environment is very fun and social there’s always something happening. Almost every day there are activities, themed or special dinners, and about once a week there’s an outing for dinner outside, which keeps things lively and helps everyone bond.

Food is decent but could definitely be improved, especially for longer stays. That said, everything else from the surf coaching to the atmosphere more than makes up for it.

Would recommend this camp to anyone looking to learn surfing in a relaxed, friendly setting while also having a good time. 🌊🏄‍♀️

The Surfer Camp is next to the ocean where as a beginner you would learn to surf with very qualified and absolute fun trainers. If you are more advanced, the spots are just walking distance from the club. The best part of the club however, is the professionalism with with the camp is organized. Classes were regular and timely AND most importantly, the surf boards were brand new and in good shape.

But if you are looking for more than just surfing, Surfer club has somehow managed to maintain a vibe that allows you to make friends instantly and well after that each night is a party if you'd want to. My husband and I did a course with the club for 5 days and left (rather sad that we had to leave) home with memories of surfing, water, clubs, music, amazing cafe food, worldly conversations and most of all some amazing friends.

Would absolutely recommend you to choose the club, they know safety and they know fun!

This place gets high reviews and mine is no exception. If you are looking for the surf camp experience this place is it. You will party with the other surfers like you’ve known them for years on your first night and surf all the next day. Lahiru and his team will quickly become like family and make you feel like the favorite child. I would give it 5/5 for vibe alone, but the service is also great. I never wanted for a thing.

Going to the surf with my instructor Randi felt less like a lesson and more like catching waves with a mate who brings you to the break and gives you every wave. He helped me set goals and improve on my weaknesses in the right order, and most importantly have a great time doing it!

An amazing place with an amazing vibe. The food, the cocktails, the hospitality were all top notch. Most importantly though, as always, it's the people who make the place. Lahiru has managed to create something really special on this beautiful coast. Evidenced by the number of people I met there who had come back multiple times. Something tells me I'll probably be back as well. Highly recommend.

I had the best time here, I stayed a week surfing, having fun and also relaxing. I made a family here and although it's sad to say goodbye to them, it's happier to think that I can come back again any time. Lahiru and everyone of the staff members were so good all the time. Want to share my awesome experience in this camp. I have stayed here for 8 days with a full surf package with yoga and I've got as much fun as possible. The owner is very attentive, responsive and helpful . The camp itself is very cozy and clean. Food in the restaurant is very good and the staff always try to keep it up. Every evening was memorable because there are different events which unite surfers from all over the world. The surf teachers should be prized separately. They are always helping during the lessons either with comments or actions. Overall if you want to have active, cool and unforgettable stay with a lots of fun I recommend The Surfer Camp and I can predict that it won't disappoint you.
