I have just stayed for two nights and had an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel incredibly welcome. Nothing was too much trouble — they were attentive, friendly, and genuinely cared about making our stay special. The rooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. The public areas were equally impressive — very well maintained, clean, and inviting, creating a relaxing atmosphere throughout the property. Breakfast is a great choice and cooked to order and the fresh fruit plate and yoghurt finished it off perfectly. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to return. If you’re visiting Mirissa and looking for somewhere to stay, Morning Star is a perfect choice. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lovely family-run hotel with 13 rooms. They were so nice and welcoming. Rooms were spacious, super clean and great. The beach is just opposite, nice pool at the property. Highly recommend to stay here!

We had a very lovely stay in low season (early October). Despite there being few guests, we were very well looked after. This family run small hotel (13 rooms) has a great pool and lovely breakfast area. The Queen balcony rooms are fantastic with large beds, great air con and one of the best showers of our 2 week trip. It is across the road (and down a small path) from the beach and within walking distance to many restaurants and shopping areas.

Great place to stay. Family that run it are friendly, helpful and fun. Perfect . Cross the road to walk down to turtle bay beach and wander down to everything else. Rooms spacious and bathrooms also good. Fireflies at night in the trees whilst relaxing in the pool are lovely. Come and stay. You won’t regret it.

We checked in at the Morning Star on the 25th of February for 6 nights,and had the most wonderful time,our well appointed room had a huge comfortable bed,all mod cons and a wonderful balcony where we watched the local monkeys pay there daily visit,usually about 4pm, The staff were absolutely fantastic,advising us where to eat etc,they even arranged our transfer to Galle free of charge,I genuinely have never met a kinder group of people than the Sri Lankans I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel,the owners are so welcoming,and immediately made us feel like we were part of an extended family, If ever your considering visiting the South Coast,Mirssa,and importantly Morning Star should be on your list

A gorgeous fruit plate for breakfast, which lasts until 11, adapted to the morning programs! A clean room with beautiful wooden furniture, a comfortable bed and lots of pillows! There are enough sunbeds around the pool, you don't have to compete for them. The family that runs the guest house will help you in everything. The popular beaches are a 5-10 minute walk away, it is in a good location, restaurants and massage facilities are also nearby.

Family owned villa with comfortable rooms, hot showers, strong AC, and yummy breakfast! A 20 second walk to the beach. The owner and his family did little things - gave local tips, provided sunscreen when mine ran out, had laundry done and folded at a good price, etc. Saw a previous travelers negative review about the front room. If you’re a light sleeper, that room probably won’t work for you. Otherwise this place is AMAZING and has kind-hearted people operating it ❤️ I was able to shift to a different room upon arrival.

They put my wife and myself in a tiny room right on the highway. This room should not be used for guests. The walls and windows are really thin. It is not possible to sleep in this room. The road noise of the busy highway makes sleep impossible. Horns, loud engines all night. It is wrong they rent the two front rooms out with no warnings and charge the same price. The owner just laughed at me when I complained and asked to be moved. He was not in the slightest bit interested in doing anything. This was the worst hotel experience I have had in Sri Lanka all my other hotels on our tour have been excellent. We were not warned when this room was booked it was on the road. It was advertised as a superior room, I would give this place a miss unless you are assured to get one their rooms down the back. I feel we were misled with the nice rooms and then placed in this horrible one.

Family managed and friendly staff. Tuk tuk available on call. Good breakfast included, fruit, tea or coffee, eggs cooked as requested, and a small pancake to finish. Great. We had a larger room toward the back so absolutely no road noise. Clean large pool with sunbeds and shade. Short walk to Turtle Beach and leisurely walk to Mirissa Bay, Beach and many and varied restaurants and cafes so you definitely won't go hungry. Massage on site on request. Will definitely consider return.

A really nice stay at Morning Star. The staff are very friendly and always on hand, breakfast was good, and the pool area is really nice and well looked after. Although the beach is right there, we also enjoyed a nice quiet day by the pool and we’re the only ones there! There are lots of nice restaurants within a 5 minute walk, as well as the beach, and a 10 minute walk to coconut hill. I’d highly recommend the queen room with a balcony/terrace by the pool as opposed to the standard room which is in the main house and a lot smaller.
