We were staying at another hotel but the restaurant at the Alpina was recommended for chinoise fondue . We were not disappointed. Service was friendly, welcoming,and helpful. The surroundings were relaxed and comfortable. The fondue was amazing and well beyond our expectations. Make a reservation, tell them that you are coming for the fondue so they can prepare. Arrive hungry and enjoy the dinner! /

Hotel Alphina is strategically located at Grindelwald and the view from the hotel is amazing! The room is also very clean which is the most important factor for me.

While the breakfast options are limited, I enjoyed my mornings in the restaurant. It is uber cosy, and it has good coffee. Eggs are also available upon request.

Just 2 improvement points perhaps:-
1. The bed and the pillows are too soft for us.
2. A transport service to pick up/drop off visitors would be perfect as the slope up/down the hotel could be physically draining and dangerous during winter.

One of the best hotel in Grindelwald!!! In my opinion.
It's a very clean and cute place.
The decoration at the reception it's just amazing.
This hotel has a very good location, the landscapes from the balcony are wonderful.

We loved our stay here. Had two double rooms and a single for our family. The place is very traditional and the staff were so helpful. Very clean. We loved the breakfasts. Incredible views. We took the rooms at the back and still had some views but the ones on the front had phenomenal views. Walk up the hill was 150/200m and was not a problem at all. I thought it was going to be a lot worse from reading other reviews! Location was incredible as just by the train station. And at bottom of Main Street of the town. A great relief to be so close when coming back from the slopes in ski boots. We loved our stay and would love to come back in spring summer for hiking.

Just a short walk to the train station. Simple and cosy breakfast with a stunning view. Dinner at the hotel is very good quality for the price. The family-run atmosphere makes you feel at home, with the hosts working from morning till night. Room size is comfortable for two guests. Definitely will stay again if we are back in Grindelwald.

A truly wonderful family-run hotel with heart and soul. Hotel Alpina is run by a hardworking father who is nearing retirement, yet still personally involved in everything — from maintenance and kitchen work to check-in, check-out, and daily operations. You can see him constantly moving around, ensuring every detail is taken care of.

What makes this place special is the genuine engagement with guests. From day one until check-out, the family is attentive, welcoming, and sincerely cares about your stay. It feels personal, not transactional.

The restaurant is another highlight. The 5-course dinner is very decent, authentic, and surprisingly affordable for Switzerland. It is excellent value for money and a great way to experience local Swiss cuisine without overpaying.

If you are looking for a warm, honest, family-run hotel with good food and true hospitality in Grindelwald, Hotel Alpina is highly recommended.

We stayed here for two nights hiking the Via Alpina. It would have been nicer if we had a room with a view - that’s the travel company’s fault. The service was subpar at the restaurant the first night - new staff maybe - and we mentioned it. Mysteriously there was no availability our second night for dinner, fully reserved - although when we got back from our (superior) restaurant that night it looked largely empty. Small loss. Not my fave but the location is central if you don’t mind an uphill hike.

We had a lovely four nights at Hotel Aplina in June. We'd looked for a central family run hotel in Grindelwald and Hotel Alpina was perfect. We were welcomed by Thomas on arrival and over the course of the next four days met his daughter and son who both work in the hotel, and will become the fourth generation of the family to run the hotel soon. The room was very comfortable with an outstanding view of the snow topped Eiger. Breakfasts were good but the highlight were the outstanding dinners. We chose to eat in on our first night and after a delicious meal didn't need o look any further for evening meals. A lovely traditional hotel that I would recommend.

I enjoyed my visit. The lady at the front desk was very nice, the price was reasonable, and the food in the restaurant was delicious. I really appreciated the care the chef took in preparing the meals. I particularly enjoyed the Caesar salad, the curry and soup. I enjoyed the lighting in the restaurant as well. The hotel itself is well kept and comfortable. The location is wonderful as well. I would very much stay there again

I visited this hotel with my wife. We had been in the area before and decided to come back. This hotel was a pleasant surprise, everywhere we looked it was very clean. Including in the room, daily housekeeping, we stayed 3 nights and our towels were also changed. Indeed, the room with a view to the back may have seemed a bit smaller, but in the end we came to see the mountains, not the walls 😆. Breakfast with a generous offer, again, very clean, friendly and fast staff. I would like to mention that the entire family that owns the hotel works together with the staff. Overall it was a pleasant experience, (3 nights approx. 900 chf/2 pers) and we would have no hesitation in coming back.
