Hotel Alte Post in Grindelwald

Our stay at Hotel Kreuz & Post Grindelwald was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed and cared for.
The service was exceptional, the room was comfortable and beautifully maintained, and the bar was a lovely place to relax after a day out. What truly made the difference was the dedication and outstanding hospitality of the entire team. A very special thank you to Jezmim and Ailen, whose phenomenal service, kindness, and attention to detail made our experience unforgettable. They were always helpful, attentive to our well-being, and consistently pleasant.
The location is fantastic — conveniently close to everything: the train station, ski lifts, restaurants, shops, supermarket, pharmacy, and more. This makes getting around incredibly easy. The hotel restaurant is also very good and an excellent option, especially since the town offers relatively limited dining choices.
We highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Grindelwald. It truly enhanced our entire experience, and we would gladly stay here again.

The nicest, kindest, most helpful people ever found in Grindelwald manage this hotel - and it's a high bar, since on all of our stays here we came across very nice people. The hotel rooms are spatious and clean, with superb views over the mountains, which is always nice to have when the weather isn't too inviting outside :) . There is parking, ski room, a spa, a very nice restaurant, and discounts for the local pool and gym. The breakfast has a nice diversity of dishes including vegan. The hotel is located in the very center of the town and near the train and bus stations. Their restaurant is fantastic value for money (tasty, large portions, with locally sourced ingredients) and they provide room service. We loved being here for a long weekend and look forward to coming back to K&P in the summer.

Stayed at Hotel Kreuz & Post for 2 nights during our stay in Grindelwald.

Rooms - 10/10 We got a free room upgrade! It was a beautiful 2 floor room with nice views of the mountains. It was very cozy as well.

Service - 11/10 - our heater wasn't working properly, someone came and offered us an electric heater. Our wall outlet converter things weren't working, and they offered to use 2 of them!

Location - 10/10 - a few steps from the Grindelwald train station, very convenient, and easy access to activities, hiking, etc. Also, you can hop on the bus from right outside the hotel!

Things to note: As an American, this hotel is still pretty expensive. Room service will run you at least $40 per meal, and they will charge you 9 francs to deliver it to your room, so just pick it up yourself.

Overall, I believe this is the best hotel to stay in Grindelwald. The breakfast was pretty standard as well. I look forward to coming back if I ever do come back to Grindelwald, this is where I'll stay!

I had a wonderful stay! The hotel has a true mountain feel — warm, authentic, and full of charm. The restaurant was excellent, and the breakfast simply outstanding, with plenty of fresh local options. The spa area, terrace, and relaxation room were fantastic — perfect for unwinding after a day in the mountains. The bed was very comfortable, and the room quiet and cozy, ensuring a great night’s sleep. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, making me feel genuinely welcome throughout my stay. I’d happily return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing alpine experience.

We had a room with a balcony overlooking the mountains. The room was comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities which we hadn't had since leaving the UK. The staff at the hotel were friendly and very helpful. Knowledgeable about the area and more than happy to make suggestions about what to do. The only downside was the cost, but wherever we have stayed in Switzerland it has been expensive.

We spent one night at Hotel Alte Post as part of a hiking trip. The room was nice enough and had a beautiful garden view, although the bathroom was somewhat dated. We - and other American guests - were a bit befuddled by the fact that you had to leave your room key on a rack near the front door before leaving the building. Theoretically, anyone could have taken it and entered our room. Maybe security isn't an issue in Grindelwald, but a more modern key system would be more reassuring.

In June 2023 friends and I decided to visit Grindelwald and we reserved 3 double rooms at Hotel Alter Post. We were warmly received by the attentive staff in this traditional Swiss alpine hotel. The management had placed us in 3 neighboring rooms, each with a large balcony and magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The attractive rooms and beds were very comfortable and the baths impeccably clean. We started each day with a generous breakfast in a lovely dining room. Alter Post is perfectly positioned for roaming the incredibly beautiful Grindelwald countryside and we happily returned to our cosy hotel every afternoon. One of our guest fell ill and requested a single room, which was offered to her immediately with a small discount. We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Hotel Alter Post and would like to thank Mrs Gruber and her staff for this wonderful experience. We will return one day for sure..

The hotel is family-run and overall very clean. It is a very traditional wooden house with a very beautiful view from the balcony. The bread for breakfast was very delicious, soft and chewy.
The location is great, just ten meters away from the First Mountain ticket office!

This is an amazing hotel! From the moment we arrived, we felt looked after. The room was spacious and the view from the balcony of the Eiger is nothing short of spectacular! The balcony allowed us to view the mountain day and night. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms were serviced every day. Staff are so welcoming and helpful. Breakfast has a great selection of cereals and meats/cheeses. We also ate numerous times in the attached restaurant, and we were amazed by the quality of food on every occasion. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, and I would definitely return if I visited the area again!
