Boutique Hotel Karl in Lucerne

We are currently traveling across Western Europe. This hotel was the most disappointing part of our vacation. Upon our arrival, we saw that the hotel elevator was shared with a school, and we had to wait several minutes while students were leaving before we could use it. This is not disclosed anywhere on their website. The bathroom wall had a significant amount of mold and the radiator is extremely rusty. The hotel doesn’t use keycards, only regular keys (see attached image) and the door does not lock itself when closed, which was inconvenient since there were three of us. The wardrobe is under two feet wide and does not have enough space for three people’s items. Later on, we were denied access to a microwave, plates and cutlery to eat the food we purchased at the supermarket near the hotel (first time this happened on our trip). The breakfast area in the lobby was open and we saw a man drinking coffee in there, so we went to get some coffee and tea only for the man to rudely tell us we must pay extra for it. We later found out this was the hotel owner, Patric Graber. Nobody informed us that we had to pay to use the coffee machine in the lobby upon check-in. We have stayed in hundreds of hotels across North and South America, Europe, and Asia, and have never had an experience like this. The Filipino lady at the front desk was very friendly and tried to improve our stay. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel. The owner needs to improve his attitude.
