Our check-in was fantastic as we were provided some options for things to do and sights to see. The hotel is conveniently located in a cute square with multiple restaurants and the hotel’s restaurant has fabulous Mushroom risotto and Aperol Spritz.

The Hotel America is located right on Locarno's wonderful Piazza Grande. Here you can enjoy Mediterranean piazza life to the fullest. The rooms are clean and the prices are relatively reasonable, but it is advisable to book early and online. You can have brunch in the Hotel-café on the piazza in the morning, but this is charged separately. If you enjoy spending hours with friends in the balmy air, sipping a genuine Italian espresso or a Martini Royale and chatting, or if you prefer to read a book or write something on your Laptop, this is the place to relax in a cosy, communal atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and attentive. All in all, highly recommended for an affordable short break in the Locarno-Ascona region. The breathtakingly beautiful Centovalli area is just 10 minutes away by bus/train. Unfortunately, the Hotel America is already fully booked for the Locarno Film Festival 2025.

charming hotel, front desk guy was SO helpful & nice. it is hard to find - i stopped at a pharmacy to ask for location, they didn't know & it was about 3 minute walking beyond. to find it, you can walk from the train station (10-15 min) towards the main plaza, keep going almost to the end. on the right tucked in the back, after the shops, is the entrance. only complaint is no tv channels in english. which normally isn't important, except that everything in the town except restaurants closes by 6pm so relaxing in the evening with tv is not going to happen. otherwise, loved it!

Last year in 2022, my daughter and I had an excellent culinary experience at this restaurant! I had the Pizza Forestiere and my daughter the Scialatielli con pomodorini. The best pizza I've ever had, and impossible to reproduce at home, as well as the Scialatielli. We had to wait almost a year before we could enjoy this wonderful food again - and we're good cooks! Finally, last week we managed it, and couldn't wait to come to this restaurant for the food and ambiance. The staff recognized us immediately and made us feel so welcome, yet again. Alessandro, Peppe, Flo, and the whole team were amazing. Despite the scaffolding being mounted for the upcoming Moon & Stars Music Festival in the immediate vicinity, it didn't bother us in the slightest. Alessandro informed us of the upcoming fireworks show and so we considered staying another night in TI, (we had been in Ascona beforehand), so he checked with Mrs. Kanalga if there was any availability, (at such short notice), and bless her heart, she had a couple and offered us a superior room for a great price and also included a free breakfast. The room was huge, quiet, very clean, and, with a very spacious bathroom. Switzerland is experiencing a very unusually hot summer and only a minority of Swiss Hotels have air conditioners. Nonetheless, we were very comfortable. One can really feel the love, passion, and care that Mrs. Kanalga invests in this phenomenal, historic property and in her staff, that go above and beyond to make you feel right at home. Exquisite food, remarkable service, and an excellent atmosphere right on the main square/Piazza Grande. Can't say enough about this place and can't wait to come back!

The stuff is very friendly and fast. Paccheri are tasty (both, with sausage and vegetarian). The location is great, the price is very good for such place. They have outdoor seats directly at the piazza. There is also a hotel. Shade available, so you don’t burn in the sun.

Delicious pizza, drinks and desserts! Pizza was so good, we ordered a second pizza! Pepe, our waiter, was amazing, fun, entertaining and very hospitable! We sat outside in the rain under the canopy. We’ll be back tomorrow night for dinner!

Incredible stay
Family owned, amazing stay and gracious hosts. The co-owner, (Manuel) was helpful planning our stay and was so excited to show us his hotel. From the unique Grotto, its history to the history of Lacarno. His English was impeccable and we felt very welcome and relaxed.

We head a really funny, nice and uncomplicated service and a really good pizza. It’s a nice place in the middle of locarno to just enjoy your time. For use it was a perfect ending for a nice holiday in ticino. Just take a drink some food and also enjoy your time.

Great place... even greater staff... always smiling and friendly. Most we like to see Alessadro is working. He always recognizes us. We will recommend this place and we will be back 5 from 5 over all Thx to the staff it makes the place so great !
