Giving this a 3 because the air conditioner didn’t work and staff only gave us a bottle of cold water. This is an important issue during warmer times and it disturbed our sleep. Other than that, a fun hotel very walkable to the waterfront, station, Grand Piazza. Bus to Ascona is right outside and free with Ticino visitor card. Satisfying breakfast. A good Ibis hotel.

When we booked the room we made a mistake. We booked it for one person instead of two persons. When we wanted to check in the person on the front desk told us that we did the booking only for one person. We asked if he can adjust which he gladly did.

Later we checked the price we payed for the "double room" and found out that the rate is higher than the standard rate for a double room. The next day we asked how this is possible and were told there is a "penalty fee" for additional person. We understand that we have to pay the difference between single and double room but that we have to pay a higher rate compared to a normal double room we don't understand.

We did not try to sneak in the second person for free. We were together at the front desk where we found out that we made the mistake to book only for one person instead for two.

Can you please explain why we have to pay a penalty for the second person and the rate we payed is higher than the standard rate for the room?

We stayed already last year in this hotel and we really like it. Last year we booked it with booking and were asked to book it next time directly on the IBIS homepage. This year we booked it directly on IBIS homepage which we were not so familiar with and made this mistake. We liked our stay this year but this additional penalty does not sound fair to us.
