Utupoa in Matemwe

Utupoa is PURE BLISS!We arrived late, but our transfer was sorted - thanks for the smooth pickup! Joyce, Maria and all the staff made us feel at home instantly - they (and everyone else!) go ABOVE AND BEYOND. Food? Fabulous! Beaches? Stunning, with epic walks. 💕. Our upstairs room was spacious, cool, and had VIEWS FOR DAYS (pool + beach = perfection). But what really made our stay special was the wonderful local vibe - everywhere we went, people raved about Utupoa and Joyce's community work. We heard she's 'famous around here' for good reason! Utupoa, you've got it all! Thank you⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Utupoa was the absolute highlight of our trip! The staff really made the experience special, Maria was so sweet and kind, Noura was amazing, and Joyce, the owner, was just incredible. She has such a warm, welcoming energy and truly made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. You can tell how much love she’s put into the place, and it shows in everything from the shared dinners to the way she makes sure every guest is comfortable.

We loved the communal meals; the food was delicious and we looked forward to the conversations with other guests, who felt like family by the end of our stay. Our room was clean and cozy, and everyone was so kind to my 3-year-old that she didn’t stop talking about it since then.

Metawme was peaceful and quiet, and even though the sea isn’t always swimmable, we enjoyed our walks along the shore. Joyce guided us in planning our excursions and really went out of her way to make us have the best experience.

Honestly, the only downside was not staying there longer! None of the other hotels we visited came close to the warmth and hospitality we felt at Utupoa. ❤️

Joyce, Freddie and her staff make you feel as a part of their family direct. Very welcoming, service minded and including.
We stayed there three days and celebrate new year at the hotel. The staff arranged a nice dinner buffe and party afterwards. Super good!
The two rooms we stayed at were good and had a good standard.
Eating dinner with the rest of the guest was fun and a very good concept. The food is good but not excellent.
We met a lot of nice people that we maybe not had talked so much with in a another hotel.
Summary. Strongly recommend this hotel for the "be one of the family" concept and the butiful place.

We booked this and it was fabulous. Joyce (owner) and her staff, including Freddie (daughter-social media/logistics) made our stay the best. It was such a personal experience with great food, community of guests coupled with a unique place that we came away with memory cocktails. Joyce facilitated our transportation, snorkeling and made the experience both simple and enjoyable.
Her commitment to her guests and making them part of the family really made the difference.

Our stay at Utupoa was probably one of the best weeks of our lives! After having just climbed Mount Kilimanjaro a relaxing week in Zanzibar is what we sought and Utupoa was literal paradise. With the beach literally on the back door and the incredible vibes of this extensive tree house- like building it was the most idyllic location. I can’t not mention Joyce, the owner. Joyce was the kindest, funnest and most caring woman, who made sure everything we wanted was catered for and was just a lovely person to chat to over dinner. The food was the best food I’ve ever had and all the staff were incredibly kind and friendly, with a special mention to peter and matty, our two drivers for the week. Overall the best accommodation with the best people.

We visited Utupoa a year ago and will never forget our stay. Joyce is a wonderful host and her team of staff looked after us very well. The house is quirky and eclectic, which we loved. The location is right on the beach with beautiful sunrise views from the balcony. The beach is one of the finest on the island. Matemwe itself gives you a more authentic vibe than some of the other more commercial locations.
